Purchased Groove Coaster on the Japan eShop. Got the rhythm game itch!
I'm not too familiar with Groove Coaster. Played it a few years ago. It didn't hold my attention for whatever reason but playing briefly with the Switch version, I made the mistake of not sticking with it. Really fun game.
The game, itself, doesn't let you take screenshots but I took some using my elgato.
Missions are pretty much achievements. 300 of them, which gives you different unlocks. They may ask you to play a specific song, or play a song in a specific genre. Looking forward to seeing what kind of madness the game asks you to do, lol.
The UI for the song list is clean and easy to understand. A number of different sorting options: Favorites, Plays, Alphabetical, genre to name a few. So i noticed the game keeps track of scores when you're using a pro controller or the joycons. Is there a difference in notes when playing between the 2? Curious about that.
A number of customization options for in game. You can change the avatar (the small character you see when playing), SFX, Skins, and you can add some mods like Hidden/Sudden/Stealth/Mirror.
Challenge Mode. 18 of them. They all seem to unlock different Titles. Each challenge gives you a set of songs to play through. You can also make your own challenge set.
You can actually change the aspect ratio of the playfield. 1:1 or 9:16.
You can also play Horizontal or Vertical. Sometimes I forget that my monitor can rotate lol. So I put it vertical and it looks and feels like I have a mini arcade in my room, haha:
There's also local multiplayer on the same console for up to 4 players, and local multiplayer with multiple systems.
Rhythm game fans should definitely check this out. This is a full price game on the eShop, fyi. And there's DLC available as well. 4 song packs that include 10 songs each, with avatars and voiceovers included.
I'm impressed by the whole package. Another great example of how rhythm games should be made.
