With the advent of Nintendo's new console, growing mobile initiative, and continued support of the 3DS platform - it seems like there has never been a more exciting time to be a Nintendo fan. This upcoming wave of releases - across all three platforms - also officially welcomes the new era of Nintendo R&D management, that sees the largest arrangement of in-house developers working under the vision of one man - Shinya Takahashi.

THE DEVELOPERS

Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Mario Kart - there is also a significant chunk of resources exclusively dedicated to creating new IPs or experiences like Miitopia, Nintendo Labo, 1-2 Switch, and Miitomo.

gonna reply here instead

2019 for 2D Zelda is a good bet imo, 2020 for 3D Zelda perhaps a bit optimistic but it's difficult to say with Nintendo and how they change plans at the drop of a hat.
if nintendo was gonna "Majora's Mask" Breath of the Wild, I think we would have seen it by now. unless they wanted to release it the same year as they reveal it. but anytime soon would overlap with the next 2D game

2019 is shaping up to be a busy year.

Animal Crossing, Yoshi, NSMBUDX, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Gen 8, Labo gun/camera, Smash DLC with more to be announced in the new year, I'm sure. And Mario Kart on mobile, too.

Would love to see some Mario Maker, Pikmin, and Metroid next year too.

It's gonna be a pretty interesting year, even if we don't get Metroid Prime 4 or Bayonetta 3 in 2019.

OP looks great, good job !

EPD as a whole was very discrete this year so I am expecting a strong output in 2019 from them.

On your 3DS list, you have Fire Emblem Heroes listed instead of Fire Emblem Warriors.

Yeah. Even if those two slid into 2020, it wouldn't really change much about 2019.

Because Nintendo still has a lot of reinforcements:

- Retro Studios' unannounced game.
- Platinum's unannounced game.
- What is the 2D Zelda team up to nowadays?

How big, in terms of scale, will be the Platinum project ? Do you think it has a niche or mainstream appeal ?

It's Platinum so it's niche almost by definition.

At this point I'm just going to assume Prime 4 will come out in 2049, and anything earlier will be a nice surprise.

Did I miss something about Platinum? I assumed they had their hands full already between Granblue Fantasy, Bayonetta 3, and Babylon's Fall.

Is the assumption that Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3 were always meant to be 2019? I feel like those two games have been ambiguous for a reason.

It's time to see them but I think it's fair to take news of those two as they come. So with Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Star Fox GP(?), Daemon X Machina, some Platinum game, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and 2D Zelda? That's a stacked 2019.

Metroid and Bayo can honestly take as much time as they need.

This is my thinking too. A 2D Zelda can be announced in early 2019 and then released in a few months. It's what they did for ALBW for example. A 3D Zelda on the other hand, the followup to BotW to boot...?

A new 2D Zelda could also satiate the people who are still looking for a more traditional Zelda game. Both styles can definitely exist.

That rumour is almost ancient at this point. It's not happening.
I'm pretty sure it also said Grezzo was working on it, which we know isn't happening because they were working on the Luigi's Mansion remake.

I'm curious, was there something new which prompted everyone to assume or guess that Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3 are missing 2019? Or is it just the general uneasiness of not hearing anything since their initial announcements?

They were announced too early, but Nintendo had their reasons for Prime 4 at least. Bayonetta 3 tied into the 1/2 port announcement, but they could've still held off on that for a while.

I've always assumed that any game announcement without a release window is at least two years off.

Emily has been teasing Platinum's other Switch game for a while. it sounds like it's quite a ways into development, but if Bayo 3 is 2019/2020, this other game is still a ways off. also, Platinum does A LOT of outsourcing. all companies do, but Platinum does a crazy amount of it

Two years would be 2019 for both though. I know you said at least two but it seems like the expectation here is now that both will miss 2019 and I'm curious why.

Love the new thread! I wonder if there's a possibility to check how the staff flows from project to project or division to division. After all, the common people working on the games matter as well. I think I found a website containing the credits from most games linking to the devs from EAD Ninja, but can't find it again sadly...

I'm working on a "announced = further in development" kind of logic. until the other game is properly acknowledge, I feel this is the safer route, even if it ends up wrong

Ah, I get you and yeah, that's probably for the best, although, like we saw with Yoshi's Crafted World, of which we saw way more than Kirby Star Allies at e3 2017, it's not always working.
But in this case it's probably for the best. At least we know that Bayonetta 3 exists, that's more than a rumour.

They already talk a bit more openly about future projects than most other Nintendo related studios (albeit for recruitment purposes).

That's true. I suppose it's because Monolith Soft isn't wholly owned by Nintendo. Is this the case for other similar subsidiaries? Or is Monolith Soft a unique exception?

Monolith is 97% owned by NIntendo. the last 3% is split between Takahashi, Honne, and Sugiura. they're Nintendo-bound to the grave

I think the problem is that announcing them extremely early followed by no news for over a year makes people wary.

They clearly weren't ready to be shown when announced. The next time we see them, I expect to see a release within a year.

Be a bit wild for a new platinum game to be announced and released in the same year. Not really a case for them unless the project has been in development for a while.
