Isn't the next No More Heroes also coming in 2018?

EDIT: Wait no, forgot this was first party. My bad.

Yes I was waiting for the topic!

Time to wonder what Retro is working on for the hundredth time :)

More on point, I wonder if Nintendo's gonna be porting more Wii U games over. Smash is probably off the table, but I'd still love Tokyo Mirage.

Retro has never disappointed me (actually, I consider most of their games to be masterpieces), but the large amount of time since their last release is causing my expectations to rise significantly.

Anyway, great thread, OP.

Playing Animal Crossing Pocket Camp only makes me want the Animal Crossing Switch version even more. That will likely be the game to make me invest into a Switch.

Now if they magically fit Metroid, Pokemon, and sneak Animal Crossing all into 2018 that would be incredible.

So far the one platform thing has worked wonders for Nintendo. They really only have 700 people? Expand! Expand!

My prediction is that Retro is working on something original, that's going to be presented as the next big IP from Nintendo ala Splatoon and be the big E3 focus game this E3, releasing Holiday 2018. Metroid and Pokémon will be 2019

Nintendo has a lot of unknowns. It's surprising that most games announced already are not internal.

Cool to see this thread here. Still don't know what to expect from Retro but I'm expecting something great at the very least (and I'm praying that is Startropics, wasn't there a rumour about them making it at some point?).

I don't think they're working in a new Donkey Kong though since that wouldn't have taken so long to develop. Also, considering that Monster Games helped to create Tropical Freeze and ported Returns to the 3DS with new levels, it could be possible that they're developing a third entry in the franchise.

Lots of unknowns.
a) Does Nintendo port Metroid: Samus Returns or Metroid Prime Trilogy HD for 1st half of 2018? (Especially if MP4 slips into early 2019).
b) What's next for the Rhythm Heaven/WarioWare team?
c) Pikmin?
d) Smash Bros DX?
e) same engine sequels for BOTW or Odyssey for holiday 2018?
f) Takahashi assured Nintendo had internal teams still working on quirky wacky games (Brain Age, 1 2 Switch, Miitopia)
h) Mario Maker 2 or NSMB Deluxe for next year?

So Next Level games is the best guess for the devs of prime 4? They have no console experience right?

I love this thread. Can't wait for what Nintendo has for 2018.

And I believe in Next Level being the devs behind Prime 4 too. A big reveal with great gameplay will put everyone's fear to rest.

Next Level Games are a pretty competent team but I would be lying if I said that I'm anticipating a Metroid Prime from them since while I'm consider them "good", I don't see them as "great".

Not to mention that I wish they would create sequels for Punch-Out and Luigi's Mansion (although the latter would benefit from a more open world kind of design).

Since Toyokazu Nonaka has produced 7 games in the past year, he probably still has a EPD group. Since Takao Shimizu hasn't worked on a game in 4 years, he probably has moved back to the hardware division

Should have meant my guess/hope I suppose. I just figure Retro has been out of focus so long that SOMETHING big has to be coming from them.

Ok I never knew about Dead Heat Breakers at ALL. I still wish they made it a Zelda-like because a lot about the first game feels like they were tempting to approach that.

Didn't realise there was a mad max themed Dillon game being developed.
It's unfortunate but by the time it releases for 3ds the system will already be dead. Hopefully a switch port will also be in the works.

Honest question, do you think this is really possible? I know that having the engine would make the turnaround shorter, like OoT to MM. But holiday 2018 looks really soon especially considering EPD 3 is working on the DLC (although probably not the whole team).

Anyways, thanks for the thread, I was looking forward to it.

After Xenoblade Chronicles 2 comes out, I'm going to be mainly looking forward to Monolith Soft's new IP. A small teaser might come out at E3 2018 and a formal reveal sometime in 2019. Given the studio's talent and production rate, I think it's doable for it be released by Winter 2019.

I don't think we're going to see engine sequels of BOTW and SMO until 2019 at the earliest. The last time we saw a Zelda sequel that shared the same engine as its predecessor (not counting Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks) was Majora's Mask and that took around two years, considering how game developments are taking longer in general these days, I wouldn't be surprised if sequels are released in 2020.

In the WSJ article about AC: Pocket Camp, it mentioned that Nintendo was planning games based upon Zelda and its RPG series for mobile. With FE and Zelda taken care of, I wonder if the remnants of the PXZ team will be working on a Xenoblade title for phones?

I was kind of thinking a same engine sequel or spinoff that would be like NSML or Captain Toad - released a year later. But that was obviously super presumptuous best case scenario.
