News:

1. Consolidated Operating Results

For the nine months ended December 31, 2018, three Nintendo Switch titles became major hits with record sales, which helped
invigorate the platform. They are, Super Mario Party released in October, at 5.3 million units, Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and
Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! released in November, at 10 million units, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released in December, at 12.08
million units. In addition, sales of other titles and titles released by other software publishers continued to grow steadily, bringing the
total number of million-seller titles during this period to 20, including the titles of other software publishers. During the holiday season,
software was a great driver of hardware sales, resulting in hardware sales of 14.49 million units (19.5% increase on a year-on-year
basis) and software sales of 94.64 million units (100.9% increase on a year-on-year basis). Hardware sales of Nintendo 3DS, now in its
8th year since launch, were 2.31 million units sold (60.5% decrease on a year-on-year basis), while 11.08 million software units were
sold (64.5% decrease on a year-on-year basis). Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition and Super Nintendo
Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition recorded total sales of 5.83 million units.
Turning to our digital business for dedicated video game platforms, sales of download version of packaged software, download-only
software and add-on content for Nintendo Switch showed especially good growth, bringing digital sales to 84.2 billion yen (95.1%
increase on a year-on-year basis).
For smart devices, many consumers around the world enjoy Dragalia Lost, which was released during this period, in addition to our
previously-released titles. Our smart devices, IP related income was 33.3 billion yen (14.7% increase on a year-on-year basis).
Total sales reached 997.2 billion yen (of which overseas sales were 774.9 billion yen or 77.7% of the total sales). Operating profit
came to 220.0 billion yen, ordinary profit was 240.2 billion yen, and profit attributable to owners of parent totaled 168.7 billion yen.

2. Consolidated Financial Forecast

Major software titles slated for release on Nintendo Switch include New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe in January and Yoshi's Crafted
World in March, as well as major titles planned by other software publishers. We aim to broaden the platform's user base by adding
new titles and strengthening sales of popular titles already in the market.
For Nintendo 3DS, we will continue to leverage the platform's rich software library and its hardware install base to further expand
sales of evergreen titles.
In the smart-device business, Mario Kart Tour was scheduled to be released this fiscal year, but in order to improve quality of the
application and expand the content offerings after launch, the release date has been moved to summer 2019. As we endeavor to develop
future planned applications, we will also focus on continued service operations for applications that have already been released so that
consumers can enjoy playing them for a long time.
We have updated our Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS unit sales forecasts, based on sales status for the nine months ended
December 31, 2018, as well as our future outlook. For details, please refer to "(4) Consolidated sales units, number of new titles, and
sales units forecast" at page 8.
There are no changes to the financial forecast for this fiscal year originally published on April 26, 2018.

Great result in SW front. Sadly a bit weak on HW. It will be interesting to see what Ninty will do this year.

Splatoon 2 basically has doubled splatoon 1 sales in a year and a half. Remember how splatoon was going to be a flop?

The software performances are just absolutely absurd

Pokemon already doing 10 million. Smash already over 12

And freaking Mario Party already over 5 million

It's insane.

Hardware ships were 9.42M Switch for Q3.

So with the revised forecast they only need 2.51M shipped on Q4 to reach it. Sad they had to lower from the 20 M mark, but 17 is way to low

So does this mean Nintendo doesn't track Octopath Traveler in Japan?

Edit: Ah. Thanks.

Those software numbers are staggering. The big surprise for me is Pokemon. Holy shit.
And that's Smash after only, what, 3 weeks?

I'm surprised Pokemon did that much so soon. I was expecting 10 million to be its lifetime sales. It'll be interesting to see what its final numbers are and how it compares to the next mainline entry.

Software numbers are incredibly good.

Hardware was good this quarter but not enough to carry the whole year.

Profit/Revenue on the rise, closing to the Wii/DS Era

So if I'm reading that right their net profit this past quarter was higher than what they expected the entire FY

17m revised forecast... yikes lol. Definitely conservative, considering that would mean YoY decline for Q4, but still, lol.

Great software, weaker than expected hardware. One of the best sophomore years for any console in history, but overshadowed by it failing to meet its lofty goals.

10m Let's Go though, theycantkeepgettingawaywithit.gif

Also congrats to the 220k proud new owners of 1-2 Switch.

Oh and here's the Q3 shipments for older games:

Mario Kart 8 - 3.31m
Super Mario Odyssey - 1.59m
Breath of the Wild - 1.4m
Splatoon 2 - 800k
Mario Tennis Aces - 370k
Kirby Star Allies - 320k
1-2 Switch - 220k

Smash at over 12 million, over a single December... Holy shit.

What's the LTD for BOTW on both systems? Probably atleast another million from the WiiU, right?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Nintendo looks like they made a fuckton of money in Q3 and beat their whole year net profit forecast in just Q3?

Comparatively, Sun and Moon were at 14m+ in January 2017.
Considering the Switch boost and the growing userbase, Smash being at 12m, and everything else, it's easily possible Gen 8 will break the record as fastest selling title again

software sales are just crazy. games are doing crazy numbers on a young system with only 30 million sold hardware.
happy to see DK and octopath do well, and the other ones are selling like crazy since the beginning. 10M for pokemon and 12 for smash is just unbelievable.

I'm starting to expect this. If it's a really good title I can see it just running right past that.

Hardware underperforming is overblown, because that 20M was ridiculously high. 32mil and on the road to 35 before the 3rd Year even starts is crazy stupid numbers in a post mobile world, anyway you spin it. Software is fucking bonkers though, how in the flying fuck did Pokemon hit 10M in such a short time? Gen 8 if solid enough in its pre-release material and hype could go even higher. Just insane.

Octopath's 1.08m overseas alone is impressive. Wonder what its combined sales would be, given how much it appealed to series that have limited mindshare in the West, such as SaGa.

Looking at how well the Wii U ports have done it makes me wonder how Bayonetta 1/2 did on the Switch.

I'm one of the people who said 20M wasn't going to happen so I'm happy to be right, but 17M seems like an over correction. Their software forecast was also dumb, but for the opposite reason lol

Damn, Mario Kart 8 has shipped another 5.8 million this FY, totalling ~23 million so far Wii U + Switch. Wonder how close it will get to Mario Kart Wii.

I don't know what is crazier, MK7 going 600K in a quarter or NSMB 2 doing 260K in a quarter.

How many publishers would kill for those sales LTD for their games

New releases sold as expected, legs on the old titles is what's really impressive to me. How Mario kart gon sell another 3.31 million in a single quarter like it's nothing, a whole year and a half after release ....

Hardware is disappointing compared to expectations. But since those expectations were like, record setting, sky high expectations, these results are still phenomenal.
