TRANS RIGHTS
First included as OT17's subtitle, the assertion that "trans rights are human rights" is not a shallow attempt at moral posturing. Instead, this statement represents an issue of genuine importance to this and the wider ResetEra community. Many of this site and thread's best and brightest are transgender, and offering respect and human decency to them is important to us. This point and these members are too important for any tolerance of divergent opinions on the matter: transgender people are valid and deserving of respect. You are not welcome here if you do not agree; this statement isn't from a sense of moral righteousness or political persecution, but because these people and the challenges they face matter to us.
- Groupthink: Listen. You’re in an online forum and given the unique privilege of anonymity and minimal consequences for your behavior beyond a ban. We’re all fallible, and we've been wrong too many times to hold a superiority complex. If someone feels differently than you, be accepting of their perspective. Not all opinions are valid and equal, but there’s a way to speak truth in love. Aim for that, and be like this guy.
- Hostility and Harassment: Beyond a violation of site rules, we should aim above the bare minimum of conduct to foster a better and friendlier community. Don’t be a jerk.
- Subposting and Amplifying Ignorance: Drama is useless, folks. It’s a well of attention that derives you of a healthier existence, so don’t give oxygen to ignorance. Report trolls, leave nonsense alone, and use the ignore function when you must. An online forum means you need self-care too.
- Arrogance: There is an unhealthy way to approach community, and it starts by assuming expertise in every conversation. Avoid dismissive, condescending posts and instead be respectful whenever you engage with fellow members. Saint Kendrick shares this belief: “Sit down . . . Be humble.”
- Insider Harassment (borrowing from Meelow ): Anyone who posts here is a member and participant and should be treated as such. In general, if an insider has something they want to share, they will do so subtly and without provocation. Accepting that element of our thread will preserve what’s left of insider hint culture.
- Information Obsession (borrowed from Raccoon): Constant solicitation of information clogs the thread. It’s fine to be excited; it’s less okay for a lack of announcements to be cause for doom and gloom. Like any other company, Nintendo exists to make money. Don’t mistake information for goodwill, and remember to manage your expectations.
- Clout Chasing: The internet tends to reward people who build their platforms at the expense of other communities. Don’t do that here by taking hints or discussions and turning them into something other than what they are: hints or discussions. Participate for the good of yourself and others, and, if you find that’s difficult to do, remember it’s okay to detach. Do what makes you healthy.

- Sustained Engagement: Thoughtful posts give the thread more substance. Drive-by posts don’t help anyone, and we all desire engagement with fellow members. The length of your posts isn’t as important as the need to think before writing.
- Actual General Discussion: Talking about Nintendo = good. Sometimes being off-topic = also good. Always being off-topic and needing mods to deliver us from Dill = not good. Keep your focus on building community and enjoying Nintendo.
- Assume the Best in Others: Saint Augustine provides a template: “Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility.”
- Ask for Recaps (and do Homework): I'll share the previous OP's approach to news and rumors for this thread as well. We’re a community that enjoys Nintendo's history, ignores backlogs, and who speculate wildly about upcoming games instead (mostly) of playing existing ones. If you have a question about what's being discussed, then ask in the thread after you've attempted to gather your bearings. Asking for recaps is always encouraged, and our most active members are helpful.
Now for a long-standing Nintendo OT tradition - Plum's chart that shows presentations during the lifetime of the Nintendo Switch. We've already had a 2021 Direct (and expect another at E3), so it's fair to say that the good times are coming.
Attempt to make this thread your own. Don’t lose sight of what makes this thread work, but the expectation (as other OPs have said) is that you create parts of this thread when it becomes yours. You’re free to borrow and be inspired from what’s already been done as well; the choice is yours. Just know that Mario didn’t die for the world to remain unchanged.
