Nintendo is boring without Reggie, Iwata, and Miyamoto

Doug Bowser doesn’t have charisma anywhere near Reggie. Reggie had a huge stage presence. When Miyamoto or Iwata would show up to these events, you felt their legendary energy around them and knew something big and revolutionary was going to happen. I don’t feel any of this energy with Nintendo’s presence these days. Koizumi seems kind of cool in the Directs, but isn’t as relatable or personable as the Big 3.

Also, we know what happened to Iwata (RIP), and Reggie left Nintendo earlier this year. But where is Miyamoto? Ever since Iwata’s untimely passing, I haven’t really seen much of him at all. I think the last time was when Pokemon Go was announced. Was he around in any events or promo material since then?

Their games are still kick ass though.

so is the new Playstation PR without Shawn and less emphasis on Shuhei, but hey, too early to tell.

Sure, but you want marketing and promotional material to be entertaining when all that matters is the value and quality of the video games.

Miyamoto is really busy with helping the development of Nintendo World and he's more back behind the camera's now.

As for Doug Bowser, it's unfair to compare him to Reggie when he is not Reggie, he's still new at this and he's not going to be someone he is not to make fans happy.

Who cares about salesmen? (Yeah I know iwata and Miyamoto are / were more than just "salesmen") Games matter and they've been quite good lately...

Mr Shibata was pretty fun on European Nintendo Directs, unfortunately for us he's back in Japan now.

The disrespect for Koizumi. Disgusting.

At least give Bowser a chance to develop his legend.

In general, it's healthy not to cling onto corporate personalities as if they were your friend. I enjoy interviews with those types - Like Sakurai or Phil Spencer, but I find the idolization of them to be at times, gross.

Particularly when people call japanese developers "cute" and the like - asian people are people too, even if they speak a different language from you.

I think just like with Sony it’s still to early to make this judgement, everyone is still getting the hang of their positions in terms of grabbing the spotlight

Too many People place too much value in the Executives of these companies being “fun and likeable”. I remember when people shit on Shawn Laden when he first showed up on E3 just because he didn’t have “Jack’s swagger”.

You have to really think if that’s even at all of any importance.

There is no point when we get most of our news by the Directs and Sakurai. There are no conferences anymore.

Also, kinda weird the fixation that OP has for executives trying to be funny.

Well, it really is. At the very least it makes you feel like you're not giving you money just to a stuffed suit. It makes the company, and they products they make, feel human, not only through their games but also through their executives.

There's a reason why such cult formed around people like Iwata, Miyamoto and Reggie. They were/are goofy, did dumb sketches all the time (Like the Smash amiibo presentation) and not only were they a source for memes, they embraced them and mixed with the Fandom. That goes beyond great and makes Nintendo a very comfy company to follow

Bullshit. Aonuma, Koizumi (who appears every two directs approximatively) and Nogami are all a lot of fun.
This just reads as nostalgia for the good old trinity.

Did you just say that because there wasn't an announcement at VGA, OP?

That trio will never be the faces of the company again, for instance one of them is retired. You may have heard that another is deceased.

I couldn't care less, they're delivering in the games department and that's what counts for me, not some suits.

I always felt the love and adoration for Reggie was more of the ironic kind.

Like, with all due respect to Reggie - but 'Charisma' and 'Stage presence?'... nah.
He was a big dude in a suit who held up consoles. Sure, he learned to embrace the memes, but always in a very dad-jokey way. He was a smart executive, for sure, but an entertainer he was not.

Doug Bowser looks and sounds boring. I look and sound boring. I still love Nintendo, though, and would do my best to bring F-Zero and Mother back if given the job.

Never judge a book by its inability to lend itself to memes.

but that’s a baffling mentality to have. No other industry requires their CEOs to put on a clown show to appease their customers

And if you ask me, that's an issue.

A suit that isn't ready to show himself having some fun (and faking himself having fun) in an industry whose base is, precisely, having fun, is a suit i'm reluctant of giving money to.

Developers, CEOs and even localizers/translators are more or less treated like rockstars in this industry. They shouldn't have issues in acting like a clown once in a while instead of being all important

Miyamoto understood that in the Era of the overly proud Yamauchi (The cold suit that almost destroyed Nintendo and then left Iwata to deal with the aftermath), Iwata understood too and Reggie followed suit. They did the right thing.
