Sean Chiplock, who voices the Deku tree, Revali and Teba in the English version of breath of the wild (2017) did an interview with KIWI TALKZ. In it when asked if he was returning in the sequel, he responds, the part od which is relevant here being: "I still have no idea if that's going to happen."

Now, as often happens with interviews like these, other places cover them for clicks, There's nothing nefarious by doing that in theory, but the title Nintendo life chose to go with is a bit different.

"It Sounds Like This Voice Actor Won't Be Appearing In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom"

That infers that the voice actor has stated a likelihood that they will not be returning. That could easily put him in breach of an NDA at worst case, and at best is going to potentially deter him from doing future interviews.

The Actors response here bellow highlights what I'm saying. I think it's quite unprofessional to twist someone's words for the sake of clicks, thoughts?

The events over the past month or so say to me that were I a voice actor of any note, I wouldn't say a goddamn thing to the press, nor would I intetact with any fans.

It's a crappy headline but damaging or a breach of NDA is probably a stretch. What he actually said is what matters, I'm sure companies like nintendo look into things past a clickbait headline when making decisions like this

The moment you reply with more than "No Comment" , you cant expect the internet and outlets to behave the right way with the information.

Not the first time NintendoLife has pulled this crap or done awful, awful clickbait bullshit. It's why I stopped going there.

Btw just to clarify things, the original question wasn't about returning to work on Zelda, but returning to play the game. Which makes NL looks even worse.

wait, wtf, that quote they've used doesn't say anything about voice acting.
I'm going to bother watching the whole interview in case it was mentioned elsewhere, but this article is trash, it's somehow making a claim whilst quoting something completely different. Absolutely trash journalism.

Edit: this could get the voice actor in trouble when he's said absolutely nothing about his work! He was talking about playing the games.
I'm guessing it's this sentence:

I will definitely keep an eye out for videos so that I can be knowledgeable about what happens in case any of my characters happen to come back - I still have no idea if that's going to happen.

Voice actors will often record lines, but that doesn't mean they'll be used in game, he's talking about being interested in the final product whilst saying he doesn't know if his character will return, essentially a non-answer.

The problem with specialist news sites is that due to their biz model, they need content. So when news is slow, they scrap the bottom of the barrel for non-news, packaged as news.

I was going to say. I feel like I've read reports of Nintendo Life that paints them in a negative light.
This is the same website that hired the writer of this after the fact:
www.resetera.com

Did Kotaku just post an article with (animated) child porn? (NSFW) [Up: Kotaku apologizes]

mod edit: The images have been removed and an editor's note posted Animated Video Game Porn Could Be A Lot Sexier And Less Gross ----------------------------------------------- So Kotaku posted an article exploring "video game porn". Literally the second picture in the article is an animated...
www.resetera.com

The House in Fata Morgana Dreams of the Revenant Edition (Switch) is now the Best Video Game of All Time (7 reviews on Metacritic)

I don't want to derail things too much here but is that the same writer that wrote about Harry Potter child porn on Kotaku? EDIT TO ADD: Yeah, it's her. I won't be reading this diary.
So take that as you will.

Nintendo is petty. They'll look for any reason to be jerks. Also N Life are dumb dumbs for not consulting the interviewee on the title

People always, always need to see the internet as one big game of telephone, even between reporting blogs and websites, and always seek out original sources.

People reading that headline will gloss right over the "sounds like" part, I promise you. And even with that part it's still a misleading title.

I disagree that clickbait titles from rando publications will be damaging professionally here.

I wouldnt call Nintendo Life some random publications, but i agree unless the VA is doing misinterpreted interviews every 2 months i doubt there is much too fear.

Still companies might be wary to work with people if they are close to the or often in the press. Well unless you are Troy Baker or someone of that level.

NintendoLife isn't very good and puts out too much filler content. Like who the heck even reads "where to buy {new AAA game}" articles?
I get that there aren't enough Nintendo specific new to make a Nintendo exclusive site go around but going the click bait route is a bad choice.

While I agree that the headline is shitty, there is absolutely no way Nintendo (or any company for that matter) would sue the VA over a headline. They will check what the VA actually said, not the headline.

Again, it's still incredibly shitty and NintendoLife should apologise and remove the headline.

They've edited the headline it seems. It says: "Revali Voice Actor Has "No Idea" If His Character Will Appear In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom"

I said this in that original Bayo 3 thread (and from a very very pro-labor POV) but this is not a firm by firm question. The differences between firms is so minute as to be irrelevant on these kinds of issues.
