Not sure if I'll ever have anything to add but I will say I have always checked this thread. Unfortunately, so far little information seems to be gleaned by tracking their maintenance - unless it's something very explicitly stated like the Mario Maker changes.

Well there are some interesting patterns.
1) maintenance for a specific game usually precedes an update for that game.
2) system updates are usually preceded by maintenance, but it is difficult to connect the two ahead of time
3) eShop maintenance typically results in user visible changes, even if they are often minor.

Just a general request to Lite_Agent here. You wouldn't happen to have an archive of all your maintenance posts from last year, would you? It appears that your thread from "the other place" has disappeared; it doesn't show up in searches, and older links from search engines just redirect to the main page. I was actually making use of the information for some personal research of mine related to game activity; it would be invaluable to be able to access it again.
