i imagine LTD will be 14 millionish

Much more than that, 16-18 is the minimum ballpark we're looking at, 3DS is currently at 24M for example while DS was >30M
They will end 2018 around 6.5-7M, 2019 should be as big or bigger and reach 10-11M and it should still be able to sell in the ~3M ballpark in 2020 and 2021

Of course all of that include new model(s), pricedrop and so on, but for now the Switch has still many ways to attrack new audiences going forwards including new gen Pokemon, Animal Crossing and various high 3rd party efforts.

Kind of shocking ps4 is below ps3, and psp bigger than either, would of thought vita would of performed better given psp's performance there.
PSP was before the advent of phone games. Lack of sony support obviously didn't help, but it stood no chance against phones.

Man, with Animal Crossing next year which will undoubtedly push additional units, the Switch is absolutely crushing in Japan.

At the rate it's going ~1m over the PS4 YTD for these past 2 years it should pass it next year. And if there's a revision + base model price drop that's a guarantee

Mad how low Vita is in system sells.
Actually pretty high considering the support it got. Obviously Vita got support but it was always more hardcore niche series compared to something like the Switch that gets support from Nintendo first party, western third parties, and those hardcore niche series the Vita left behind. Switch is literally the perfect system for Japan. The only thing holding it back would be price and even then, it's still doing amazing.

So FY2019 will see it top the Wii, and FY2020 will have it gunning for GBA LTD and beyond. Or so it seems with the current trajectory. There is no stopping it, the beast is unleashed.
There is a wall, DS and original Gameboy are 1 and 2, both over 30 million, maybe if iterations sell for the full 10+ years, we could see it break that, but I assume nothing like those numbers will be seen in Japan again.

Oh definitely. I don't see it hitting 25mil like the 3DS till 2023, and after a few revisions. 2 years ahead of the 3DS which is reaching that after 8 years, but even at 25mil in 5 years, its gonna trail off at that point.

Home consoles are dying in Japan. One of the main reasons Switch is a portable console.

I'm glad it's selling well there more JP third parties on board is a good thing. Pokémon probably helped too. I'd argue Smash and Let's Go are more influential system movers than Super Mario Odyssey.

What I really want to see is Japanese indies becoming more of a thing.
