That was the best Treehouse Live yet. All they need to do at E3 next year is the exact same format and pacing (limiting repetition and showcasing different aspects of games that are shown multiple times, such as both singleplayer multiplayer components of Daemon X Machina and Super Mario Maker 2).

Absolutely fantastic showing everyone!

Now please give us Mother 3. 🙁

It's over? Today's titles weren't very interesting apart from Silksong and each days stream has been shorter than in the past, so it feels like it's gone by very quickly...

Treehouse was kinda cool but pretty meh this year. Shorter and lack of game music between segments.... just hearing that porn music....

Games and pacing wise it was definately the best Treehouse. But it missed some games announcements, to really feel like e3 goes beyond the Nintendo direct on Tuesday. Maybe next time they save some stuff for Treehouse surprises.

Last year was worse. I stopped at watching at the 10th time they were still playing Smash Ultimate.

This year it was maybe shorter (not sure) but they covered more games, even this indie day was very enjoyable.

Could have used a round 3 or 4 of a couple of games, and a surprise showing like in past years, but I can't argue with the amount of gameplay shown.

Last year was brutal compared to this year, it was like 40% Smash lol, which was compounded by the fact that, as good as Smash is, it looks an awful lot like the Wii U one.

I think the Trials of Mana game was one of my favorite segments.I missed the FE: Three Houses gameplay, that's my most anticipated Nintendo game for this year.

To anyone who's already familiar with the original SD3/Trials of Mana, did they showcase some significant differences on the gameplay between the original and the remake?

I just wanted to mention how impressive it is this year that for day 1 and 2 at least there was next to no game I didn't have an interest in.

Some years its like oh, this game *does something else*, but not this year.

Other than the AC delay ruining everything (*cries*) the rest of this year is going to be amazing for Nintendo.

Just waiting for RAD, Dark Crystal, and the full Day 3 video to go up and the OP will have links to all the video on demand versions of this year's Treehouse Live!

Yeah the gameplay is radically different (which was expected) and has a lot more impact and precision in the remake compared to the original.

I was already broadly positive on Trials of Mana, but nervous given that I knew the Secret of Mana remake wasn't well-received. Treehouse completely reassured me on that front.

Astral Chain alone made me love this year's Treehouse. Fire Emblem gameplay helped, too, but I was already sold on that game.

Astral Chain was this year's revelation for me. Its awesomeness caught me off guard.

I thought treehouse was fantastic. It sold me on so many games.

I agree. The format that Nintendo settled on a few years back is genius. Nintendo Direct acting as a showreel showing actual gameplay as well as CGI (Yes, MS I'm looking at you), followed by relatively deep dives into each game. Sells games waaay better than any 30 second trailer in a presentation ever can because you see what you're actually getting.

I came away from the MS conference loving the fact that there were so many games coming (because I've not bought an XBone due to lack of games I'm interested in) but totally frustrated that I had no idea how ANY of them played.

I definitely prefer the Nintendo approach - makes making game choices much less ambiguous.

I'm just catching up and I was super surprised that they're showing Sakuna. I watched the original Comiket trailer way back when and have been excited for the game ever since. I just knew it would end up being a special game even with it's doujin background.

100%

I wrote a post just a few days before E3 saying how I was not really looking forward to much from past super Mario maker 2 but I'm already sold on astral chain and probably on Luigi's mansion 3 too. Just got myself 2 vouchers, spent one on SMM2 and will use the other on one off the other 2, for sure.

Fire Emblem seems fun but I just cannot handle the waifu stuff.

I like how the Dark Crystal game is shaping up. I think the trailer during the direct did it a disservice but they were going for more of the Dark Crystal overall tone.

Anyone who missed it should give the Sakuna footage a look. Really smooth side scrolling action/farming game made by a team of two.

I didn't mind the more lean schedule for treehouse this year, it felt like a lot more care was put into making sure each section presented new and exciting information. Even though there were no formal 'announcements', nearly every section was giving us a first look at something, often significant enough to change my opinion on the title.

I'm not sure if there was an intent to do more deep dives on the Inside Xbox on the following day; I tuned in and out of that a few times but never encountered any actual gameplay, although I could have just missed it! Did anyone watch that properly and find it in a more Treehousey format? I think I hears that they were at least showing some Gears 5 then, with (IIRC) a focus on the Escape mode (In the context that I largely heard that people were disappointed that they weren't showing the campaign!); was that at least a Treehouse-like portion?

I think that might be the way Microsoft need to go, but there's a difference between two hours of Inside Xbox and, what, fifteen hours or so of Treehouse?

Also, one minor new thing this year that I think was a genuinely useful idea was the "Hey, this'll come up in Treehouse if you want to know more" icon in the Direct. It's a big reassurance that you know that the trailer isn't all there is to show. They made a point of underlining it for Animal Crossing, too, which was another good move. Imagine if we had a few such icons in the MS conference pointing people to Inside Xbox? I think that'd help.

I guess there is one other difference where the problem may simply be that I didn't watch enough Inside Xbox, but to me, the Inside Xbox presenters came across as hosts - placing themselves in the position of finding out about the game for the audience, while the Treehouse folk came across as gamers - placing themselves in the position of introducing the game to the audience. I think part of that comes from the fact that the Treehouse people generally are already familiar with the game, they can contextualise what they're doing. Of particular note, I think, was the few times yesterday where they were demoing a game themselves without any reps from the company there - understandable, of course, because indies can't necessarily make it to E3 - and they were still able to present the game clearly and with understanding. I assume when indies are involved they do a decent bit of homework so they know how to present it best.

I think Microsoft (and indeed Sony, for the future) could get there, but they need to figure out a way of shedding their underlying corporate-ness to really get it right. When they're talking to us rather than at us, we'll get somewhere.
