Please, Nintendo. Make more WaveBirds. Integrated battery and rumble. USB wireless receiver. I'd like that.

Fuck yes. I would have preferred an official recreation of the GameCube controller that works like a Pro Controller that can act both wirelessly and via USB C just like the Pro, and adding the missing buttons (clickable sticks, two shoulder buttons) but remaining exactly the same otherwise in materials etc. But this is fine too. (Yes I know about the third party crap, and I don't care about it)

Also the new adapter will probably only require one USB port. Since otherwise it would be a mess to connect 8 gamecube controllers to the Switch (you'd require a USB HUB since the Switch has 3 USB ports unlike the Wii U which had 4)

Daft question, but am I right in thinking these new GC controllers would work on actual Gamecubes?

I still play the console quite regularly, and my Wavebird died last month. It would be quite cool to be able to buy a brand new controller for it in 2018.

Yeah, they're GameCube controllers through and through. Just with a little fancy symbol replacing the GameCube logo.

That's the thing you'd want to get. Although it could have latency, dunno:

I want one that's being actively manufactured (aka possible to buy), and preferably which uses Bluetooth and has rumble.

Last time i touched a Gamecube controller was like 15 years ago, and i didn't have one so just played randomly with friends.

Is it Gameboy level of stiffness? cause i liked that one much more than Pro Controller's d-pad that goes all over the place.
I think the Gamecube literally uses the same D-Pad as the Gameboy Advance...

Anyway this is neat but I think the Switch Pro controller is more than good enough for me. I assume there's no analog shielding, and the Gamecube controller doesn't have a capture button.

I've already got one and didn't realize they were so rare!
At least this time out, they'll have more utility. I like having the option to use my Wavebird for retro games.

I was regretting not picking some of those mint colored ones up while I was in Japan until they announced this.

Glad they're making more controllers.

Overall, the controller's design is a messed, and kinda pushed them to redesign games around it, rather than the other way around.
However, it really did find it's niche with Melee, and I'm glad to see it still used for non-retro* purposes.

Looking forward to buying new controllers. Lent some out to my siblings and they never returned a few.

Hopefully the adapter is easier to find. I got lucky on two occasions of finding them in store. Hopefully they announce a bundle edition with the GameCube controller and the adapter.

I have the adapter; I'm hoping that now that we aren't on the Wii U with the power limited USB ports, they'll release a single USB cable version; or better yet, release GCN shaped Pro controllers, so it's plausible to take with me portably. That would be ideal.

The Gamecube D-Pad is notoriously bad.

The adaptor might not need two USB ports on a Switch. The Wii U USB ports were underpowered to the point that you needed a Y cable to connect a USB HDD.

The 2 front USB slots on the dock are USB2 like the WiiUs.

I think the grey cable is for the rumble only, so you don't need it if you are using wavebirds :P

I still have my wii u one, but I'll definitely be picking up a black Gamecube controller this time. I skipped that last time and couldn't find any.

It wasn't a USB2 issue. A modded Wii could support homebrew on an external HDD connected to a single USB2 port. The exact same HDD would need a Y cable to be used on a Wii U.

This will be awesome. I just scored TWO gamecube wavebirds from a garage sale last month, both work great. it'll be a blast to play this with my son.

I'm hoping they will have a Gamecube Adapter + Controller + Game package again. I pre-ordered that and laughed maniacally as everyone else suffered trying to find the adapter and controller as single items. I'm hyped for new controllers too, I may buy a few new ones.

Can you currently buy a GameCube controller?

Why dont they just make a USB GameCube controller?

Can you imagine how much of a nightmare it would be having 8 USB Gamecube controllers and trying to hook all of those up on just two USB ports on the dock? Thad would be a huge work around with multiple USB hubs. It's better to have 8 controllers usable with two Adapters and compatibility with old controllers. I still use some launch era gamecube controllers from 2001 when we play Smash with a lot of people.

This should exist. I'd buy one if it did just because I always liked that controller. It's insane that they're instead making literal Gamecube controllers.

Remember when the GCN controller was confirmed to work with everything on the Switch and Reggie said it was just a happy accident?

Still have my Wii U adapter that I sometimes use to play Switch games with the Gamecube controller, glad to see that Nintendo is keeping it the same.

I will never understand the infatuation with this nipple controller.

For multiplatform games, it did not work well, but there were certain games designed around the controller and it's odd button layout. Melee was one of them and it just feels good to have that big A button for main/smash attacks, special attacks set to the smaller B button and jump on the satellite X and Y buttons. The notched sticks were also super helpful for directional smash moves.

Back when smash U came out I bought the edition with the game and controller along with the adapter and a second controller. Very glad I don't have to go through that hassle again.

Best Gamecube controller imo was when Nintendo released a white one for Brawl to match Wii's color, without Smash branding, with a white cord that was extra long.

Imported one from Japan and love it to pieces.
