I can't even come up with a good response to this. I'm at a loss for words on how dumb this actually is.

Doubling the prices?

I can't say I've seen that happen before.

I guess they want to make a really big sale by announcing this?? Kinda like, "we gonna increase the price on this day, if you like any of these games, buy them before we jack up the price"?

The logic is completely backward, but I can understand some dumb fuck manager think that is a good idea. If that doesn't pan out, they can just say, "eh, we got your feedback and decide to keep the old price".

So is this change only going to be on PC? What about other platforms? Or is this what they cost elsewhere

"Sounds swell, I will pay more for a game than it previously regularly cost because ?????"

From a quick look games like Caligula are already 50 bucks on Switch, so it might be they are increasing prices to have a uniform one across platforms.

i notice Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is cheaper on the Switch vs the PC, which is a shocker to me.

This is probably the case of they don't really intend to sell them at the new full price, but it gives them more room to make it look like the discounts are bigger when they get put on sale frequently through the year. People will see a large slash in discount from the normal price and it'll encourage the sale because of how much off it is rather than what the price is.

Increasing the price to match the other platforms. If the cut is the same, don't see why PC is cheaper just because. It's the standard retail tactic. Now sales will be "bigger". 60% off sounds better than 30% off.

Still sucks, though.

My best guess is that their PC games are doing so poorly that they felt the need to compensate by upping the prices. Can't think of any other reason unless their hand was forced by some party due to unknown fees? But why only NISA though in that case?

Edit: Or price parity with consoles as pointed above, but why were they cheaper to begin with though?

They weren't cheaper to begin with, they had their MSRPs reduced over time.

I mostly stopped paying attention to NIS America when most of their output and published titles seemed to focus on pervy trash, but at no point has it ever seemed like anyone at that company knew what they were doing. This is somehow exactly something it seems like they would try. The only justification I can even imagine is to make future sales look like a better deal by having a higher percentage off?

Era not thinking outside the box here...

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA
$39.99 --> 50% off = $19.99
$59.99 --> 50% off = $29.99

People like sales, and the above seems like a bigger save tbh...
