Definitely trade in broken ships as opposed to trying to fix them up. The material cost to get everything functioning again is massive and will take you approximately forever. You're better off trading in for a ship with slightly less inventory capacity than trying to restore a dozen or two broken slots.

If you're having issues with making money, equip 3 S-Class Scanner upgrades on your multi-tool. They increase the credits from scanning animals and plants by 6,000 - 9,999%, so with 3 of them active, you'll be earning hundreds of thousands of credits for each animal you scan. There are additional ways to make lots of money later, but that will suffice through the early game to keep things affordable.

I found a new multi-tool and an S-Class scanner upgrade after I jumped. Definitely excited to start making a bit more $$$

I saw something on reddit where a guy found an item worth like 8mil units. How do you go about finding stuff like that? Are there spots on the map that I should be investigating? Certain landmarks or icons or whatever that might yield better treasures to sell?

The treasure values have been rebalanced so they don't go that high anymore unfortunately. It was RNG, but it used to be between a few hundred thousand up to 20 million; I think they dialed back the ceiling to a couple million. They're not a bad way to make a little money, but there are much better ways now. To find them, use your Signal Booster to scan for Artifacts which will locate an alien structure, and then use the alien structure to seek knowledge of the past.

I'm still not very far in the game, and I'm still in love, but repairing frigates has to be the worst gameplay loop in the game.

Please just let me pay the Pure Ferrite costs from my freighter.

Try to make sure your fleets' strength rating is always one star or more higher then the mission requirement; that'll cut down on a lot of repairs.

That said though it would be great if you could repair them from your fleet management terminal, yeah.

Yeah, I stopped doing equal-level runs and things are going a little better.

Also, am I missing something or is it faaar more economical to jump between systems on your freighter instead of your starship? It seems like one warp cells provides multiple jumps on a freighter.

Early on it probably is more efficient, yeah, and with the added bonus that the freighter doesn't need the colour-coded hyperdrive upgrades. As you progress though the ships you'll find end up better, an S-class explorer upgrades can jump a couple thousand ly at a time.

Lately I've been seeing several community members posting about how they are nostalgic for launch window features/UI and I'm getting concerned that Hello will think that's really the direction they should return to.

There are valid points being brought up, such as homogeneity of a lot of planet types, less flashy or obfuscated menus, and less Sci-Fi book cover coloring. But, I also think it's coming at the cost of the legwork Hello has already put in.

i just don't want this all to devolve into a discrepancy over whether old NMS is better than NMS or vice versa. I'd much rather Hello take from the community that they are open to the super weird coming back and building things out and down - more options/variety and more depth to the features/context.

I think the screenshot scene has been lackin since this update. The one before lessened variety, but I feel like the stuff that was there was noticably of higher quality. Now it seems like with the variety brought back a bit more of the more unsavory (in my eyes) elements of the landscape generation. I'd hoped it would have brought back some of the old variety but also had it polished up a bit more in how it's generated.

Problem with having infinite planets and expanding biomes over 20 updates is nobody knows what they are actually talking about. This is a 'grass is always greener' situation by people that dont have good memories. First version of NMS that people seem so nostalgic about, well first they are a vocal minority, and second there was even less diversity among the available biomes than there are now, and many of the planets were straight up boring, and ended up looking exactly the same. I think people remember them being 'brighter', but that was also because texture quality was crap and image rendering was worse. The old menus are also clunky looking now compared to the sleeker menus.

I find myself discovering some really diverse stuff these days i dont really remember or have seen in internet screens. Its all just luck now.

I agree with that. I've played evenly across all updates and vanilla and it's been a consistent uphill improvement. Some instances of very specific elements going back such as color of water, but holy shit. They eliminated 99% of all rotating grass. They added variety to asset size and scaling so trees can actually be tall or short. The clouds have added a sense of verticality that was absent until NEXT. Economy is still bunk, but it is actually a thing now rather than dynamic resonator flipping.

If they miss the OG they can easily play that build, but to try and sell it to the rest of the player base or the devs as an under appreciated excellent product... Just no. Please God no.

Grabbed this for $10 at GameStop. At that price, it's absolutely a no-brainer.

Is the cool new box art (with the four players on it) only for the Xbox One version? Assumed they reprinted the PS4 version that way as well, but I guess not.

My friend purchased on sale recently and wanted me to give him a hand getting started and now here I am another 60 hours and no signs of slowing down lol. Did they remove Lush planets for NEXT or are they just incredibly rare? I 've seen alot of Paradise planets but no Lush planets and I've jumped over 100 times since I started back up again.

Grabbed a copy for PS4 and am absolutely blown away. I've been playing for something like five hours and haven't even left my starting planet. I've found four of the five animal fauna on the planet but can't find the last one. I'm determined to find it before I leave the planet. I should probably be running around more rather than searching by air? I can't imagine I'm going slow and low enough in my craft for animals to spawn.

Yeah no. You'll need to be on foot. Also, water animals only dpsem if you are submerged or swimming below for a few seconds.

My planet doesn't appear to have any bodies of water on it. Luckily I just found the last animal, so I'm abandoning this dirt ball. I landed in a large depression and some of the animals spawned at night, along with my first Sentinels. I decided to attack a Sentinel and kill it, but now I've attracted a ton of them. I'm just chilling in my ship right now trying to think of a good name for the last animal.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. What I found is jut a varient on someing I already discovered. It's not a new species. Damn!

Thinking about starting this for the first time soon, what is the current game size on PS4 with all the updates?

Ive had a bug where slots in my cargo area with elements in them like oxygen, dont take excess inventory if my main one is full. So i could have only 300 oxygen in the cargo slot but my main inventary cant take anymore, so when i harvest oxygen it tells me no available space left. I hate bugs like this. It didnt seem to have a problem thiugh if the slot was empty. Maybe it thinks 250 is the cargo limit? This is on a new save after the abyss update. I stayed with it for the visions update.

I'm pretty sure this happens to me too, I don't think it treats it as an active slot when you're mining or something.

LAST UPDATED: 24th December 2018

I have tested all the mods together with VISIONS 1.78 but there is no guarantee they will work perfectly for everyone. Always check the mod descriptions and discussions to make sure they are compatible with your current game version and with each other, especially after a new patch has been released. FPS impact should be minimal with most mods. Please report any bugs or broken links so I can investigate.

WARNING: Backup your save game and main cache files first (AppData/Roaming/Hello Games). Rename DISABLEMODS.txt file to ENABLEMODS.txt in the PCBANKS folder if it exists and delete the contents of the SHADERCACHE folder each time before loading the game with new mods. Mod files are placed in the PCBANKS/MODS folder. Delete older versions of mods before loading the game with newer versions to avoid conflicts.

So I'm finally digging into this game. Couple questions. How do I use coordinates? And I see mods listed. Are any not safe to use? Sorry, I'm sure this has been answered before. Thanks!

Mods are pretty dang safe to use, imo. There's a text file you remove to enable mods and almost all mods are just drag and drop. If worse comes to worst you can just clean install and your save will be safe.

I have never figured out how to use coordinates (also, I have no way to move quickly through the galaxy), so I stick to just using portal codes to get to specific places.

Hey friends, my girlfriend and I got this over the Christmas break. She's got a game file that's way ahead of mine now, but when she joins my game, all of her stuff is in a different galaxy (freighter, base, etc.) Is there any way for her to bring that stuff to the galaxy that my game file is in?

She can hail her freighter into your system.

You can also just join her game and solar system and take what you get back to your own file/system when playing solo. Super flexible and forgiving in that regard. After going to her base you can also teleport back there from a space station or a portal on your own base.

What about if it says the freighter is out of range?

Quick question, I jumped into explorer mode since crafting/survival aspects aren't really my thing.

So what kind of "story" aspects can I still expect now, I noticed there doesn't seem to be an Atlas path anymore compared to when I played in normal mode but the game still gave me this mission (I mean I guess you can call it that) to build some communication stuff to try and track down this dude who seems to be trapped in some weird place.

Whoa, what happened to the frame rate on this for PS4 Pro? I fired it up for the first time in ages (last time was before the NEXT update) and the frame rate is disgusting whereas before it was nearly 60fps with some drops here and there.

Is it because I have HDR enabled using a new 4K display?
