Huh...Handke won? He's quite a controversial figure, I'm surprised (not really) that they would make such a barbed choice when they are rebuilding their reputation.
Both books of hers that are available in English are exceptional. Try and get the ones published by Fitzcarraldo Editions, which are really wonderful to hold.

Was Jelinek that contoversional? I mean her books were but as a person? Well anyway, Handke is long overdue, great author. Given that his output hasn't been that great in recent years. Haven't heard about Tokarczuk , gotta check her out.
I think it's mostly about some writings where he appears to take the side of Serbian nationalists regarding the Kosovo War. He also visited Milošević in prison and held a speech at his funeral
