In a Christmas Update to Sea of Thieves every player has the ability to get one Gilded Voyage from Duke in the tavern.
Its worth a LOT and you have one chance to do it and the potential bounty is attracting a lot of attention to people who play into stealing other players hordes and Pirating that booty

Summit1G has been streaming this game for the last couple of weeks and on the first day of the Gilded Gifts managed to steam 4 Athena Chests from one unlucky crew.

Its been great to watch, I need to get a good 4 player crew going this weekend to bodyguard the quest.

I wish there was an option to do this kind of quest without assholes ruining your session.

So does it have loot yet? Things that you can actually collect while you're exploring? Or still chests/bananas/canonballs and planks?

The gilded voyages are very cool. Keep in mind - you only get ONE and if you cancel the voyage, there's no redo. That was it.

Gold Hoarder - 8 maps, over 40 chests (all Captain's)
Order of Souls - 8 contracts, over 30 captains (all give Villainous skulls)
Cargo Runs - 50 crates, all high value
Athenas - 8 Captain Chests, 8 Villainous Skulls, 8 Cargo all highest value and 3 Chests of Legends in the final map

Extremely good rewards. And lots of opportunity to gank treasure from other crews.

They haven't added any real single player stuff yet right? Or story quests that stay around the entire time and aren't some type of special event?

I know they were gonna try and add fishing at some point.

They have spoken about an update that rhymes with "Fall Snails" that allegedly does have more narrative content. It's still in the works and will probably come in 2019 after the Arena update.

If you've not played the game since the Shrouded Spoils update two weeks ago though... the game is a lot more alive now with skeleton ships, different types of megalodon, mermaid statues with gems, more frequent Kraken attacks, loot for all that stuff... there's a lot going on now. But you may have some trouble if you are only a solo player.

If me and my (ghost)crew see you on the seas, you're going down and I'm gonna steal every bit of loot on your ship. Sucks but it's Sea of Thieves not Sea of Friends.

I've been watching it more than playing it myself to be honest. Have only played for a couple of hours these past few weeks. But I've watched Summit play every damn day for hours… :')

Yeah he's been really good to watch, I've enjoyed skipping through his vods and seeing him get deeper and deeper in.

The sneaky way he has been going in for PVP has been really good content.

Of which I am. Solo, I mean.

Thanks for the update though. I just wished there were more interesting npcs and areas because the world and game mechanics are a lot of fun to engage with. There's just not much else there. Don't get me wrong it's cool to have a multiplayer game like this that can produce neat mp stories but I guess it's just not for me.

I did my first of these missions with a couple of mates last night.

It took 4 hours in the end 8pm - Midnight, did a gold horder one.

  • 8 Islands (drop offs every 2)
  • 3 Row Boat attempts
  • 4x Ghost ships, 2x Megladon, 2x Sloop all dodged
  • 2 server migrations
  • About 40K in gold
Im so glad we hadn't any company.

Sounds like Summit1g is living the thief life and grabbed some athenas last night, so glad we didn't hit anyone like that, we would have been broken.

A one time quest that can be ruined by some asshole kids online? Yeah, pass. Normally, I'd be all for this, but you can't re-try and as a solo player now that all my friends dropped the game months ago, I may never return.

You'd only be in trouble if you didn't cash in regularly or if you immediately put all the loot on your ship straight away instead of stashing it somewhere on-island near your ship for loading after all have been collected. As long as you've kept a weather eye on the horizon you should be fine. I hopped into a friend's game over the weekend - he'd been attacked by a galleon at Devil's Ridge at the start of his gilded voyage, and that ship only sank him; they didn't realize that he'd stashed most of his loot on-island, even on a rowboat that was parked there. They didn't look. So, it can be done - but if you need help, my gamer tag is SuperPac and I am available for gilded mission escorts.

Did my gilded Athena last night with a friend on a sloop and it was AMAZING. Was actually really short and easy but came out with so much cash and three Chests of Legends. Fantastic.

I guess there's nothing to stop you making alts on your console for new gilded quests? Not Athenas obviously.

I think the threat also adds a really awesome and nervey feeling to the quests, i wouldn't swap it.

We also found a couple of red mermaid statues that were a pain to smash but totally work it at 2k a pop.

Damn I'm super glad I didn't run into Summit yesterday - did my gilded Athena's solo, but got lucky it seems :)

Had another session with the boys doing a skulls gilded bounty.

We went well, took down a pirate ship.
I love that brig.
