Thought this be an interesting discussion worth having. Now that there's new The Last of Us Part II leaks, apparently including huge story spoilers, what does Sony do with the game's release? Will they really sit on a finished game, possibly for multiple months, as leaks continue coming out? Or will they reconsider a May 29th digital-only release, if not even earlier if that's even a possibility?

The leaks will have zero bearing on when they release the game. The delay is a business decision, the leaks will have a negligible impact on that.

Most likely a playtester is leaking it. They're probably letting them test it at home.

They'll go according to their original plans. The leak won't affect the sales of the game or anything.

When they think they can produce, ship and even sell like 5 million copies within a week or two. Which won't be anytime soon.

I think if they could ship the game May 29th with enough physical copies (unlike FF7R) with lockdown being stopped in several major European countries in May, they will re-announce the game for May 29th

They are already probably still assessing the situation in major markets like US though before locking a date

I hope they find the leaker. Shouldn't be too difficult to know who has a copy at this stage. I'm pretty angry this has happened to be honest; now we have to dodge spoilers for lord knows how long.

Oh jesus, I was in that thread when the small videos were leaking but I'm staying well away from plot spoilers. Depending on how major they are this is uncomfortable for players like myself, but I don't foresee it being 'unbearable' for Sony to the point where they alter course from a simultaneous release. However, admittedly, I don't know the severity of what has leaked.

I can't see them doing a reactionary decision based on these leaks. The majority of people that buy the game will never see these leaks.

Why would Sony care about the spoilers. It sucks but at the end of the day only the sales matters. So y'all gonna have to wait until a simultaneous release.

TLOU sold over 20m copies on PS3/4, it makes sense Sony would do whatever they can to maximize sales. It's their biggest IP, they want to have as smooth a launch as possible

These leaks won't change schedule imo

Yeah nothing will change. I imagine these decisions are made by higher-up money people, not Neil Druckmann.

These leaks are only the beginning. It wont be much longer until a bug big chunk of the game is leaked way before the initial release date.

Hell even just recently something really big just got leaked. I hope they find a release date soon. This game lives on this story and characters. It would suck if it would leak to a lot of people who care about this IP.
