Character action games are relatively niche. I'm not surprised it didn't have a long tail.

Something is very wrong with your predictions if you thought MK11 would have it that tough. You do realize the last game is the best selling fighting game outside of Smash Bros, right?
You'd expect it to sell for that reason, yeah, but enough people are buying it to make the top. It's crazy for a game that old to constantly chart.

It's been massive since the original arcade game, and since it moved to being a real AAA franchise in terms of production values (and other, far more unfortunate ways), it's about the only one in its weight class in terms of appealing to mainstream audiences. The Japanese fighting game heavyweights can't really begin to compare, aside from Smash.

GTA V is just one of those weird freakish anomalies that we don't see too often. It's so far the only game I can think of that sells like it does...till the next GTA, I guess :P
Hmm...well I suppose it might be one of the Monster Hunter titles for the 3DS then. Those games sold millions on it

Being revenue based, I don't think Labo VR had much of a chance since the SKU that was stocked the most was the $40 starter kit. They did not make very many of the big bundles, and the accessory packs wouldn't count towards the overall sales number as they lack software.
