Wtf, is this true or even possible? I thought DQIX did pretty good because it had Nintendo marketing behind it and that we would wouldn't be able to surpass that in any way.
Is this a legit source?
It's a $60 game, IX was a DS gameWtf, is this true or even possible? I thought DQIX did pretty good because it had Nintendo marketing behind it and that we would wouldn't be able to surpass that in any way.

~132000 x 35 = 4,620,000
4,620,000 x 2 = 9,240,000
9,240,000 / 60 = ~154,000
Just a question, what was the $ price of DQ IX when it launched compared to XI? Half?
Why 35? Shouldn't it be 40?~132000 x 35 = 4,620,000
4,620,000 x 2 = 9,240,000
9,240,000 / 60 = ~154,000
I'm not sure how reliable SteamSpy is, but it has DQXI as 100-200k owners, so at least 100k copies on there. That's where I bought it.So sub 150k if you're counting LE. I'd do the math with UK known numbers to have a better idea but I can't right now.
A lot of the units also come from the PC release, you know.2018, on top of being historical for Sony first parties with God of War and Spider-Man being on the moon, is also the year where two japanese juggernauts (Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest) finally came back on PlayStation and broke records. What more can you ask for ? The best VR game maybe ? Oh hey, we got that too !
Because it launched at 35. A lot of DS games did that in the US back then.

He said in revenue. He's referencing Matt's tweet. While it's not said in Matt's tweet, Dragon Quest XI is not only the best launch in revenue, it also sold more units that Dragon Quest 9 (see Jawbreaker tweet in the NPD thread).
So, Dragon Quest XI set the record for Dragon Quest releases and sold more than twice the amount of the previous series record holder (revenue). Not too shabby.
Do we have sponsored posts or something now? Or do you work at Sony?2018, on top of being historical for Sony first parties with God of War and Spider-Man being on the moon, is also the year where two japanese juggernauts (Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest) finally came back on PlayStation and broke records. You mean the one that didn't get released here.
Good result but I do think SQEX was expecting a little bit more by moving development to PS4 too.

That's why they added 3DS in Japan and PC for the west....while also have a Switch version incoming.Good result but I do think SQEX was expecting a little bit more by moving development to PS4 too.
But what matters is what SE thinks. They don't consider VIII and IX doing 1M in the west as good. And the numbers we have will put XI in a similar range. It made more money because it costs 60$ (IX was 35$), but unit sales are close to the two previous entries (150K~ for XI in the US on 2 platforms vs 130K for IX on 1 platform). Can't expect more if you don't market your game in the west and you release it in the same month of Spider-Man and other 2 SE games.
GOW and Spider-Man have been great yeah. Good for Sony first-party. MHW has been successful too, but also has a huge ton of sales on PC and Xbox. Don't underestimate those 5M+ sales on Steam (according to Steamspy).2018, on top of being historical for Sony first parties with God of War and Spider-Man being on the moon, is also the year where two japanese juggernauts (Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest) finally came back on PlayStation and broke records. Do you have any source to back up that first statement ?DS / 3DS software retail price being low was one of the reasons SE wanted to go console / PC. Thank god Switch software price followed suit so they can release anything anywhere from now on.
I know low-res/poly games cost less to produce, but with the caliber of DQXI asset / engine cost becomes less and less significant compared to the overall budget, and this makes publishers even less incentive to make 3DS version. DQXI JP version would be the last AAA 3DS game from SE for sure.
