This seems highly questionable.

Salon is basically garbage, and I'm not seeing any credible outlets picking up on this.

I had no idea that Salon reposts random blogs on their site. They really need a clearly labeled opinion section if they're going to do that nonsense.

The Politico piece this is based on literally says this:
Politico said:
This time around, instead of planning her exit strategy, DeVos appears to be hunkering down and mapping out where she can maximize her impact.
This is a bogus story. Let's be a bit more thorough in evaluating our sources, folks.

Might as well replace her with Palin, since this administration loves losers and quitters so much.

So I just checked and from what it seems, if Betsy Devos IS going to resign, then I THINK the acting Secretary of Education would be a guy by the name of James Manning who has been both the Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary of Education and the Acting Under Secretary of Education (because we still don't actually have an Under Secretary of Education).

I say this because we not only still don't have a Deputy Secretary of Education, we don't even have an ACTING Deputy Secretary of Education.

Some articles from different sources on the guy (yes I am aware that the national review is conservative, but I just wanted to add them in to prove that they too notice that James Manning is someone who worked under both Bush and Obama):

Yeah, I am taking this story with a very big grain of salt.
This demands the entire salt shaker.

Alternet is a disreputable source and this is an unsubstantiated rumor put into question by the very Politico article it sources. In the future please check the trustworthiness and bias of your sources.
