One meme that's dumb is the *check notes* check notes meme.

Ya'll are bad at memes. Nobody is a great meme. It makes perfect sense when used properly. It's meant to imply that nobody prompted someone to say or do a certain thing and they did it anyway, usually something that turns out poorly.
Why would "nobody" not say anything? "Nobody" can't be silent or speak because they don't exist. You're basically saying "nobody didn't ask for this", a pointless double negative.

All are dumb but the king of dumb internet memery is obvious joke posters/forum characters. Just painfully unfunny.

You're think too hard about it.

The person that came up with the format most likely wasn't that good at speaking/writing english. And it worked because everyone knows what's implied anyway.

The one that's annoying me the most right now is the one that goes like this:

No one: ...

Absolutely not a single soul:...

Me: I LIKE TO MASTURBATE WITH BANANA GOOP

I legitimately hate it

I think you'll find there is no meme lamer and more in need of a swift kick in the gourds than this dreck that doesn't even make basic sense and has never made anyone even smile:
"nobody:
____: dumb thing"
I don't understand the "nobody" meme either. I've looked up the meaning several times and I still don't get it.

Like do you know how *check notes* weird you're being when you *check notes* type that?

And I highly doubt you actually have *check notes* notes next to you to check over.

But considering this is the *check notes* Internet, someone might actually do *check notes* this.

Why can't people just be *check notes* normal? There are better ways to be *check notes* snide.
If you visualize it as a dorky news reporter making a public announcement about something incredulous, then it works.

has to be used effectively of course, like any meme, to be actually funny. But most people aren’t as witty as they think they are.

Some of you spend an awful lot of time thinking about things you don’t understand how to use.

Imagine getting annoyed by something *checks notes* absolutely harmless.

I sometimes get the impression that there are lots of people here who want academic level or flat out serious discourse or nothing at all. Then we wonder why we have threads discussing how dour it can get around here.

The no one meme is worse. The version seen in this thread is one of the best I’ve seen, and it still isn’t funny.

It started out by being a humorous way of pointing out how some people all of a sudden start to talk about the weirdest topics even tough nothing at all promted such a thing.
It really gained traction earlier last year to mock J.K. Rowling and her randomly changing aspects of her characters long after the story is over.

But months of mis- and overuse lead to it being flanderized into "look this thing is like that thing!" which is not only not that funny, but is also covered by another meme that makes it much clearer (" [x] be like: ")

So, your confusion is understandable it's the case of the internet forcefully trying to use the same joke for everything in the hope of earning virtual points (karma, likes, whatever) to the point that it has lost all meaning

That's the best explanation I've heard. But I still hate it. Haha.

I don't think you used the meme correctly once in this entire post. So part of the problem might be that you don't actually understand it.

Wait, I use this in one of my profile descriptions as a joke (it starts off with, "I am a *checks notes* honest...") as a joke. Is it really not funny? Is this why I'm still single, jobless and currently at 0 followers?

Memes in general suck pretty bad and people who use them are displaying a dearth of personality and creative expression
