One Piece Treasure Cruise is one of those Gacha-based RPGs that have become so common after the success of Puzzles and Dragons. This game has the usual structure of these kind of games, so you must be thinking, what makes this game so awesome?

The answer is that is you collect One Piece characters (which is great by itself) either by doing Event Islands, grinding, or by spending your Premium Currency on a virtual vending machine. What sets it apart from similar games (such as Puzzle & Dragons) is a focus on traditional animation during gameplay, from characters to stage backgrounds to special attacks. The production value of the art and animation is much higher than most other mobile games.

Question: Is this game pulling any F2P trappings to make me sell my house, car, wife and dog in order to be able to do everything?

Answer: Not really. The game is really fair for F2P players. You get a gem everyday, one every few stages in story mode, and one when you finish a new event island for the first time. And they love to give gems when there is stuff like typos or minor bugs, even if they don't affect gameplay in any way. And you get 5 (or 10) gems after you finish a new story island.

The Premium Currency can be spent in various ways. On a virtual slot machine called "Rare Recruit" (and named Gacha by players), by increasing storage size by 5 and by refilling your stamina bar. This will be expanded upon later.

Finally, the game doesn't have Pop-ups or messages with special deals in order to encourage you to spend money.

Q: Is the game fair? Would I be able to beat everything being a F2P player?

A: Yeah, but there is a bit of preparation and theorycrafting when it comes to building a team. If you don't want it, thankfully, there are awesome resources with guides available. The Slasher class is basically made in order to allow F2P players to do most content. They have some of the best captains in the game with Mihawk and Doflamingo and others with great stats like Arlong, Crocodile or Lucci, and some good utility ones like Mr.1, Mr.3, Halloween Zoro or Brook. Slashers are balanced in order to allow you to clear most (if not all) content in the game if you use the right crew members.

The game is divided by Types and Classes. Types are "colours" and are key to the rock-paper-scissors mechanic. Classes vary depending on the weapon and fighting style used and aren't restricted to a single colour.

Q: And what about characters other than Slashers? And what if I want to pull X or Y character?

A: Then things become a bit tricky. There are some teams that work really well without relying on the Gacha, like Slashers, DEX (Green) or PSY (Yellow) teams, some that don't rely much on the game gambling mechanics, like Striker or QCK (Blue) teams, and others that rely quite a bit on them, like INT (Purple), STR (Red) or Shooters. Things will change as the game progresses, and you'll get many interesting units in the long term if you keep playing.

If you want to pull a certain character, you're probably going to have a bad time. Your pulls on the Gacha are totally random. You could get the character on your first pull or you could spend a lot of money and still not get it. Still, the F2P selection is quite large, has a lot of fan favorites and their sprites are as good as the premium ones.

Q: Is there some limitation to the amount of time I can play this game?

A: Yes, there is a stamina bar. It's half a curse and half a blessing, since the game is a bit grinding and unlimited plays will burn people out quite quickly in the long term.

At first it's like it doesn't exist. You'll level up so fast that you won't have to stop playing, since leveling up restores your stamina to max. As you play and it gets harder to level up you'll have to stop playing for a while. Most players play a bit in the morning and again in the evening. The current recovery rate is 1 stamina point every 5 minutes and there are 2 ways of restoring stamina. Either by spending 1 Rainbow Gem (Premium Currency) or by getting Meat in the Snail Jackpot (you can use it 5 times a day, the game sends a Tweet and you get the chance of obtaining different random rewards like boosters, stamina, beli or gems)

Q: Soooo I haven't run away yet. You've said the game is quite generous when it comes to premium currency. How can I use them?

A: First of all, there is the Gacha. A pull costs 5 gems, and you can get from crap to awesome units. You can't pull the characters from event islands and some of the farmable story characters aren't available either.

Then there is a stamina refill I already talked about earlier. If you're bored, you may want to use it in order to play more, but, in general, they're used during special 24-hour event islands called Raids or Coliseums. There you fight powerful bosses and, if you defeat them on the highest difficulty, you get a guaranteed drop. F2P spend most of their gems stamina refilling during those events, since these bosses usually have really good skills, and you want to lower them by feeding them copies of themselves.

And finally there are box space increases. You get 5 extra slots for a gem. Just upgrade your box at your own pace.

Q: You talked about 24-hour events. Can you explain it a bit more? How do they work?

A: They're the high end content this game has to offer and they give you some of the strongest characters in the game, but they only show up for 24 hours when Namco Bandai decides it. At least two different raid bosses tend to pop up during the week, and they usually introduce a new boss once a month and old ones on a more irregular schedule. Coliseum bosses are slightly different than raid bosses because you have to unlock them by defeating multiple stages when the coliseum is open. Fortunately, the coliseum is open for a few days during the week and the same coliseum batch is up for a few weeks. These raid and coliseum characters can be acquired by defeating them, but this requires careful planning and the right set of crew members.

While these 24-hour exclusives are powerful crew members to begin with, their true potential is unlocked by acquiring copies and combining them, which can lower the time required to activate their special ability.

For example, Mihawk, One Piece universe's strongest swordsman, is a powerful 24-hour unit that boosts all Slasher-class characters attack strength 2.5 times. His special ability damages all enemies for 30% of their current hit points, but takes far too long to activate initially. By combining Mihawk with additional Mihawk drops, this activation time can be reduced, turning him into one of the best characters in the game.

Q: Ok. I'm sold. How do I start playing?

A: There are two-day periods every couple of weeks when a special Gacha event called "Sugofest" triggers. In this short period, very powerful units called "Legend" (noted by the red wanted poster) become available, and there will be a higher chance that you'll get certain units (they vary each Sugofest). Having one (or more) will drastically speed up your in-game progress. When you start playing, you're given 2 free Premium pulls.

Q: And what if my results are bad? Can I re-roll? How?

Yes, you can. As said above, when starting a new game, you are given two free Rare Recruits. By joining the game during Sugofest, you have the best chance for these two free characters to be of the highest quality.

But sometimes luck is not on your side, so you can re-roll by deleting the entire app (or just your save data) and starting fresh. The truly savvy can manipulate the save data to reroll as quickly as possible, although the method is a bit shady. If you want to learn how to do this, there might be some GAF members willing to teach you, or even do some Sugofest re-rolls for you, if you ask nicely.

Q: Which units should I aim for while re-rolling?

A: Short answer: One of the better legends like time skip Luffy, Akainu, and Doflamingo..
Long answer: Give a look at the Tier List in the second post when it is written up.

New Players' Farming Guide: What Gets Priority?

You're new, you're eager to jump in, but you have no idea where to go. That's okay! In OPTC, you'll likely be spending about 75% of your overall playtime in fortnights due to their being always available and containing key units that will help you advance onto stronger content like raids and the coliseum. No matter how deep you get, you'll be right back to farming fortnights due to needing skillbooks for your new rare recruit units, farming sockets, or getting that surprisingly useful unit out of them. While raids and the coliseum will become increasingly important to you, they're not what you're immediately concerned with. In time, you get a sense for what you should be prioritizing tailored to your box as no two people have identical boxes, but what about at the beginning? What are the most important things to hit up first? This is intended to be a guide to give new players a sense of what's most important, as well as an idea of how they should be evaluating their priorities for farming content. This guide assumes that you have rerolled for a Legend, followed the Chopperman missions through at least the East Blue, and have familiarized yourself with the basic gameplay loop of farming content, feeding during a skillup event, farming harder content, etc. If not, seriously consider doing the above before proceeding to become familiar with the game's systems.

  1. Golden Pound Usopp(GPU) manuals: Arguably the best unit in the game, Golden Pound Usopp is key to clearing most early game content due to providing a 3 turn delay on a 10 turn cooldown. This means hitting up the Kuro FN. While Kuro's a decent beatstick, the FN doesn't really offer you much aside from him and Usopp books. Max Usopp ASAP then move on to bigger and better things.
  2. FN Alvida: Alvida is another fantastic unit that sees a lot of play throughout the entirety of the game, helping you overcome raids like Mihawk and Doflamingo due to her large damage reduction. She's also unique in that the big three(Akainu, TS Luffy, Nekomamushi) can all make great use of her due to her classes and typing, so your choice of starting Legend is likely no argument against her. Highly recommend getting one copy of FN Coby from the Cobymeppo FN, evolving him, and feeding the Cobys you get from Alvida's FN to FN Coby as sockets in the name of efficiency.
Got the two best F2P early units in the game? Excellent. Here's where paths begin to diverge depending on the Legend that you chose to start with. There's a host of other useful utility units that you can farm and you'll want all of them in the longterm, but you also want to start obtaining units that will seriously up your damage for your chosen Legend. This means orb manipulators, class boosters, orb boosters, orb lockers, chain boosters/lockers, affinity boosters, etc. You'll want to play around with the damage calculator in order to get a better feel for what you need when composing teams, as well as what each unit is individually doing for you so that you can better asses the value of future units that you intend to farm. From here on out, it's open range and it's up to you to decide who to farm in the end. That said, if you get lost, PLEASE ask us questions! That's what we're here for! We don't bite and we're always happy to help out newer players. To start you off, we'll throw you a few bones and list some highlight units that you'll want for each specific class. This list includes JP-only units as of the moment it was written, and they may or may not be on Global yet. Please keep that in mind.

New Player's Farming Guide(Continued):

Striker:

Free Spirit:
Cerebral:
Powerhouse:
Driven:
---------------------------------------------
On Raids:
So historically, raids were priority number one for all new players due to being such incredible leaps in power. DEX Mihawk was one hell of an upgrade over Gear 2nd Luffy after all, and from there you snowballed as you picked up other raid units, letting you farm other raid units, which let you farm other raid units, which let you farm the coliseum, etc. Thing is though, that isn't really relevant to a new account that's rerolled a strong Legend unit. If you choose a Legend that doesn't really shine early game, chose a weaker Legend, or just didn't want to reroll, then yes, raids are definitely what you should be doing in order to keep progressing. But say you started with Timeskip Luffy. What good does Raid Mihawk do you? Truthfully, not as much as he would have in a time since past(but you should still max him anyways, but more on that later). A TS Luffy reroller would instead be prioritizing farming content that works with his go-to lead, such as Duval, Sabo, Neo-Mihawk, Psy Boa, Aokiji, etc. But the caveat to that is that there may not necessarily be a straight path you can follow that takes you directly to those units you want. You may in fact need units like DEX Mihawk in order to be able to burst down someone like Aokiji. You never really know. So ultimately, here's the thing. It's on you to do your research and figure out how you're going to tackle content that your account needs in order to make the most of your Legend. Raid units tend to have such crazy utility that they end up on teams where they may not necessarily be boosted. Common examples of this are DEX Mihawk, Raid Kuma, Raid Doflamingo, Raid Hancock, Raid Sabo, Raid Magellan, etc. So that's one reason to farm that content. Want another? Neo/Kai raids. These raids are always class restricted, which means that your one incredibly powerful Legend can't actually carry you through literally everything. Nekomamushi isn't exactly known for being the most outstanding of Cerebral leads, after all. You'll inevitably need these units to clear late game content. But how hard you prioritize them is entirely up to you.

My advice? Look at the units you want the most. Figure out how you're going to get them. Then look at how you're going to get the units that let you get the units you most want by planning out your teams, etc. and repeat ad nauseum. OPTC is built upon laying your foundations, and no matter what, there is ALWAYS a way to get everything that you want with any account as long as you're willing to put in the time and effort to do so; OPTC is thankfully still one of the most F2P friendly gacha games on the market. Just make sure to do your research and everything will turn up just fine.

That said though, there are three units that you will want ASAP in 99% of cases. If your Legend doesn't have an easily accessible 1.75x or higher orb booster for their class, then welcome to Raid Doflamingo farming, because he's going to be your go-to orb booster for a good long while. Even when not boosted, Doffy's 2x orb boost can net you more damage than a 1.75x orb booster that's actually boosted. The second is Raid Mihawk, for the reasons I mentioned earlier. HP cutting is one of the strongest abilities in the game, and Mihawk's massive 30% will ensure that you have a far easier time taking on hard content. The third unit that you will want is Raid Enel, who is the go-to man for zombie teams. Zombie teams are usually used to clear forests, but can also be used to clear a wide variety of content safely, albeit slowly. You will inevitably hit a coliseum stage or forest that will require Enel's mad stalling skills to overcome. The sooner you get him, the sooner you can dump your RCV cotton candy too!

Finally, there are three raids that only come around for a limited time, usually twice a year two to three times, then they disappear for another half year. These raids are Zephyr, NEO Marines Leader, Shiki the Golden Lion, Golden Lion Pirates, and Gild Tesoro, Gold Ship Casino King. It is highly, highly recommended that you try your best to at least attain one copy of each of these units, and ideally, farm them to max. All three are commonly used in F2P guides for Shooter, Driven, and PSY teams respectively and see a lot of play. Shiki in particular has an incredibly high clear rate as a lead with a friend Fujitora and Raid Doflamingo as a sub. That said if you miss them, don't sweat it. They DO come back around despite whatever Bandai puts on the banner.

Early Coliseum Goals:
While it's true that the Coliseum is largely a late game focus for most players, there ARE units that are perfectly farmable for lower level players and can offer you huge jumps in what you'll be able to clear in the future. Below we'll list a few units that will help you greatly and are recommend to be farmed as soon as you're able to. Some are class specific, but there are a few that are universally useful and will be highlighted in bold in order to make it clear.

Hey everyone.

Realize I never posted my ID for Global: 813 051 743

Made it into Alabasta. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to the Sunny soon enough. Keep getting tempted to spend gems to unlock turtle quests to level up my characters, but holding off for now.

Pretty good. With the blurb about getting players to research, you should note that this OT should be a safe place to ask questions about team-building.

Question on Raid Enel: Do you want him to have 200 RCV CC to maximize his healing or just a 100 with the other 100 in one of the other options?

Maxing out RCV CC on raid Enel is a good idea, but you are capped at +100 CC for a stat. So people tend to go +100 RCV, +100 ATK for Enel.

Ah didn't realize that was the case. Well, I have a penguin with 100 RCV CC ready for him whenever I get him.
In general, if the unit has a captain or special that utilizes their rcv, it is worth putting RCV CC on them. Other wise ATK/Health is the way to go. Best FTP uses for RCV are Enel and Colo Kinemon. I'm sure there are others I am forgetting.

Raidleigh probably joins the list now too. And I'm stumped on good F2P units for RCV CC too...

I forget Raidleigh exists because I only play Japan. Yeah he is a good choice. Outside of them it is probably best to just save RCV for a RR/Legend that can use it.

Just realized that you can unlock Jinbe fn... Max socket Boss Jinbe with tomes before that though, lol. Those tomes could have been used on Rayshop Corazon. Will farm Cora now a bit more.

Those Neo Sabo raids will be brutal.

Got Boss Jinbe and Ivankov and with legend Magellan I at least got one boosted unit for every class.

Cerebral will be probably the hardest raid. I think I run a Invasion Shanks team with Inuarashi friends (hopefully I at least have four per day). Croc might be too risky as a captain...

Fighter might work but with no buff remover it might be tricky.

Shooter I just use a Ace team and let Magellan kill him.

aaand we are back online

yeah, not looking forward to neo sabo too

if i remember correctly, this is the neo raid where they switched from a 30 minutes timer to a "do x number of runs per day" kind of limit right?

Neo Sabo scares the heck out of me.

Also I think I have like..300 RCV sitting in my box at this point. I don't really have good units to put them on, haha.

Good to be here !! I forget, do certain units get a cool down reduction on neo Sabo? (Like Wanda and Sicilian) The Cerebral raid is going to be stupid if these units have base cooldowns.

You can always feed those candies to some evolvers to save some box space.

Yeah they're all on seahorses at the moment. Same as a seahorse almost at 100 HP/100 ATK. I guess I'm a little picky with the cotton candy. (Or maybe hoping too much I'd pull a red poster..)

Speaking of Box Space, man I really hope we get stacking skillbooks soon..

I downloaded the game yesterday and even did some rerolls but I was oriented to not bother with it until the next Sugofest. I'll take my time to read these awesome tips here before starting for real!

Huh I've actually got a number of characters in that top 5 RR google doc. Shiryu, Marco, Ivankov and Gear 3 (not evolved and it seems he doesn't necessarily have the same level of use from before).

When it comes to Cotton Candy, is there a recommended way to use it? I have a good number of each in my inventory.

The cheapest way is to feed a hundred of a type to a pig or turtle, then feed that turtle to whoever you want the cotton candy on.

Most characters you'll want 100 HP and 100 Attack, if they use recovery for a special or captain ability you'll want 100 RCV on them and you can flip a coin on the other hundred or go 50/50.

Not really a good reason to feed recovery cotton candy to anyone who doesn't have a use for it, the gains are so small.

Info on Invasion Garp is out.

STR - Fighter/Free Spirit

CA - 2.75x attack to fighters and 15% damage reduction
SA - If targeted enemy has less than 25% HP reduces all enemies defense to 0 and insta-kills target. If over 25%, cuts enemy health by 30%.

Free spirit units get another toy they probably don't need and Jimbe slips further and further into obscurity.

Same. I've been so disillusioned with the game as of late between bad sugos (I got 2 new units out of the latest multiple batches) and the nightmarish shit show that was my admiral ranking pulls, I have no real desire to do anything in the game.

That thing killed me, I ended up not even getting a legend pull at the last minute. :(

I love seeing more Garps.

Damn, the Cerebral Sabo raid is giving me headaches... Thought I could run a nice team with the new Ivankov, 3d2y Robin, legend Croc and Momonga with Invasion Shanks as a captain but I think I won't survive stage 4 with that. And since I don't have Inuarashi I can only do a few runs...

My new team will use Wanda and TS Nami instead of Croc and Robin... Use Ivankov on stage 4 and the Shanks special to clear the stage easier and then hope that Wanda is giving you good orbs on stage 5. This might even work with a double Shanks team...

Please do post your team if it looks like it would work. I am also currently banging my head at the wall called "Cerebral Neo Sabo" without a team that convinces me.

I have now lowered my expectations to "getting 5 runs done to get the gem rewards" :(

Trying to get a rainbow pirate penguin from the evolver forest is hell. Already wasted a gem worth of stamina for nothing...

NeoSabo's gonna be rough...

Today I'm farming NM Luffy, probably going to throw them into TSL sockets. I need more skillups on NM Luffy himself buuuut I've never even seen a team to use him once, so, maybe not. And even if he was going to be my Powerhouse INT unit for a Lucci team, I pulled Jimbe, so I'm all good there now

I like NM Luffy. Great stats and he's one of the only powerhouse delayers, esp F2P.
