Is the setting something that resonates more with Americans? Are they elfs? Why is it set in current times? I just don't really understand why they thought of it. Definitely original but... I don't get what the main idea behind it is.
They explain the premise at the beginning of the trailer: imagine if mythical creatures and fairy tales had to exist in the modern world. The juxtaposition of a mystical wizard having to work as an accountant is meant to be interesting and humorous.

Thanks for the explanation, I kinda get it now. I didn't get that accountant joke at all first time I viewed it.

Seems Dreamworks tier in concept, to be honest. Instead of showing what a society composed of fantasy creatures and archetypes might actually look like, they just plug fantasy creatures into our society as it exists today, clothing style, vans, iphones and all. Then the main premise of the story seems like another version of Brave's disappointing "hide the bear!"

Ehhhhhhhh. I'll be waiting for reviews and the synopsis before taking the kids to see this one. My three year old was incredibly disappointed when the teaser trailer went from the pegasus and mermaids with beautiful landscapes and epic music to drunk-looking unicorns eating garbage and trolls in toll booths. He went from the edge of his seat with a smile and a "wow" in the theater, to slumped back in the chair. I felt the same way.

Is this a full movie? At first I thought it would be a Disney+ project. The texture work and lighting looks 10 years old. Could just be some prerendered cutscenes from a videogame. Story also sounds really meh.

I think the premise is interesting enough. They're in a world where magic is something that's being lost and left behind to the march of technological progress. Enter our protagonists who try to rediscover both the art of magical conjuring and the father who died when they were too young to remember them.

Pixar set this up nicely. If they pull it off we're about to cry over a pair of legs. It's on my radar.

I don't remember a good Pixar trailer, but the movies are more often than not pretty good. They do have a lot of road trip movies though.

is it just me or it seems like Chris Pratt is just being Chris Pratt and not really trying to bring anything different with his character. Perhaps a weird complaint but I couldn't stop thinking "yeah that's just Chris Pratt".

I hate the artstyle and don't get why they should be... creatures. Like in "The Good Dinosaur" where that fact that dinosaurs didn't die meant basically nothing (they could have made the same movie even without that excuse). But it still looks fun.

My hype is all for Soul.

What a disturbing premise for a story! Seems affecting despite the Dreamworks-y delivery and obnoxious background music (in the trailer).

Fccking Pixar.

That whole Dad thing is gonna make me cry, isn't it? Like they'll get him back for a few minutes and then have to say goodbye forever.

Every. Single. Pixar. Movie. Since I had my daughter 7 1/2 years ago makes my wife and I cry.

Meh. Not a particularly interesting trailer and I have a feeling Chris Pratt is going to be more annoying than interesting.

I’m more curious about their other movie at the moment, Soul.

Looks ok... I'm not really feeling Chris Pratt in this.
I haven't had a chance to watch the trailer yet, but knowing he's in it already puts me off. I can't stand his acting.

Damn, I should have read further before I posted.

Of all the directions they could have gone, have to admit I didn't expect Weekend at Bernie's

That was my take away.

Looks like a fun movie.

Edit: To note, I think it looks like a fun movie, but it doesn't give me that Disney-esque vibe I got from say, Zootopia. Like I think I would eventually wanna watch Onward, but Zootopia (just using as an example of non-humans in modern society) was one I absolutely wanted to see.
well Zootopia was a Disney Animated Studios movie (like Frozen, Ralphs, BH6, Moana), not a Pixar movie. so of course Zootopia has a more Disney vibe ;)

Director and writer of Monsters University. Which was pretty meh. Inventive idea at least, I'll see how it turns out.

What is happening with Pixar's art department tho, man. How did we go from Incredibles, Ratatouille and Wall-E to this.

I appreciate that there is a hook to Onward other than just playing with the fantasy + modern thing, but was not expecting them to go with them escorting a pair of legs. That's a weird pairing of concepts.

I'm sold for sure. It looks great and the cast is great.

The humor in the trailer isn't the best, but these types of movies never have trailers that really knock it out the park for me.

Woops, I totally missed that this was Pixar, lol (I don't even know how. It's in the thread title even!)
That would absolutely be the reason then.

Really dig the new original movie from Pixar.

Coco, Incredibles 2, and Toy Story 4 were their last movies... what about their art department lol?
