They would've received this even without that blog post. They probably did receive more because of it because people had something more tangible to get annoyed about.

Utter nonsense. There are a whole bunch of responsible developers who sought to minimise antagonism when they made similar announcements.

I agree that there's no way you can avoid anyone reacting negatively to this kind of announcement, but you don't have to deliberately stoke the flames.
That's putting a lot of responsibility on the victims of harassment. Despite, you know, not being the ones actually engaging in harassment.

The fact that their blog post is "stoking the flames" leading to them getting harassed is nonsensical.

They could've made a blog post saying "We're releasing exclusively on Epic Games Store. Deal with it", and that would in absolutely no way justify the abuse they've got over this.

That's not what they said though.

After reviewing this thread it seems best to leave it closed.

Targeted threats sent to a developer should be taken seriously, period. An unfortunate number of posts appear not to have done that, and it doesn't seem like the discussion can be salvaged.
