Offseason Key Dates
  • Sept. 30, 2019
    • Signing window opens for teams to exercise team options on existing player contracts, negotiate extensions with currently signed players, or sign players from their affiliated academy team competing in Contenders.
  • Oct. 7, 2019
    • Teams that have completed exercising (or declining) all existing contract options may submit free-agent player contracts to the League Office for approval. Teams may also submit player trades for approval.
  • Nov. 11, 2019
    • 2019 season agreements officially end. Any players not under contract into the 2020 season become free agents. In order to facilitate these players signing with new teams before the initial roster deadline, those players set to become free agents in November are permitted to discuss contracts with other teams before their 2019 contracts formally expire.
  • Nov. 15, 2019
    • Deadline for all teams to have a minimum of eight players under contract. Teams may sign or trade players until June 15, 2020, at 5 p.m. PT.
  • Players who were born on or before June 15, 2002, are eligible to sign Overwatch League contracts for the 2020 season.
Format for OWL Season 3
  • Regular Season - Begins February 2020
    • All 20 teams will play 28 matches across a total of 52 homestand weekend events hosted at venues across the world. Wins and losses will count towards teams' full-season records and all-important seeding for the postseason.
  • Postseason (Playoffs)
    • At the conclusion of the season, the best teams will play together for an epic tournament to crown a champion at the Grand Finals.
  • All-Star
    • The 2020 All-Star Weekend will take place in the middle of the Overwatch League Regular Season.

Are there going to be new teams?
No, because the move to the homestand format is fairly complex no new teams will be added to OWL in 2020.

What is the homestand format?
Each team will host a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 events in their home city similar to the homestands that were held during the 2019 season. Homestands will occur on Saturday and Sunday and feature 3-4 games each day. You can check the 2020 schedule below.

30+ teams from around the world will have the chance to come to Blizzcon to test themselves against the top talents in Overwatch if they can find the money to get themselves there. The top 10 teams won't have to worry about that last bit because Blizzard was generous enough to pay for them, unlike Israel, Egypt, Romania, and more who have ha to already bowed out of the tournament do to lack of funds or sponsorship.

Awesome OT!

Shame about the World Cup this year being what it is. Sucks that money is what's keeping a lot of teams out.

Where is the reigning NA champs Fusion University?
They wanted to show that they could take on Korean contenders and got knock out in the first stage of KR contender playoffs.

lmao, goddamn

Before the storm of the offseason begins, let me say this season has been wild and these threads have been so much fun to take part in with you all. Really excited to see how the future shapes up.

Now bring on the fuckery.

I was so fucking mad when Gator just waltzed in from Contenders and boomed Choi, I guess I can't be mad in retrospect, it arguably set the Shock on a complete rampage.

It feels completely wrong that he can now also go and play Gauntlet.

So did they already remove Boxes and Currency from queues?

Also, I must have watched that bastion in the rafters clip 20 times.

I'm surprised they got rid of Guard and Nus. They better have signings already lined up to drop decent backup options.

Birdring is unfortunate but expected

Birdring has to be the one of the most disappointing OWL players in terms of legacy/what he ended up showing.

Two years of straight up being carried by Profit and somehow he still got to be S1 champ.

Someone hand me that Tuxedo Mask meme

Hope Justice make solid offers to ArK and sleepy to keep them. Both were great performers.

I doubt we see a lot of crazy signings, most would probably get a better contract offer from their current teams, unless another teams goes for a megaton contract which I don't think a lot would be willing to offer.
