Damn...I climbed on tank mostly using Orisa too. Time to practice more Dva. Her bomb is going to be scary as hell now.

I hate doing my tank lootboxes every day.

Every tank game I have is so goddamn painful. Literally the only tank I feel I can have an individual impact on is Hammond, and that stops as soon as the enemy team goes to CC you.

I really, really hope these patches make playing tank fun again.

I basically play Ball 99% of my tank queues, or go Roadhog because I literally cannot do anything against Doomfist with any other tank.

If there's a lot of low-HP enemies and shields, I might go Winston, too.

Jumping back into PC gaming with my fancy new build and widescreen - havent played for about 6 months and looks like i made it to level 61 (mad skillz).

What the hell happened? i have to choose a class now? takes forever to join a game as i liked playing junkrat (yeah i know...).

Back in it though! missed my OW fix :)

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT

Played a PTR match as d.va

oh my god

oh my god, that is so much better

I can live again

yes

please just patch this through jeff, i need this

Also, brig's ult might be terrifying again. Armor is some powerful shit again, so giving your entire team 100 of it? Scary.

Jesus. Orisa’s shield may soon have less health than Winston’s old shield. Crazy.

Rip Orisa.
I'm most conflicted about Orisa. Yeah, she is losing her shield, but have you fucking seen her move now? She's the Battle Cattle now. She can just straight up run at the enemy like a damage tank.

Which is the actual rub here. Before this, Orisa's design philosophy was clear - She was the bunker tank. Her strength and weakness were clearly defined in being able to hold a position with shielding and CC and Fortify, but if you got past all that, then Orisa blew up. As the game went on, she got a bit more mobility, sure, but that never stopped being her primary role. If you wanted a dive tank, you went winston, if you wanted a mobile shield tank you went Reinhardt, if you wanted a bunker tank, you went Orisa.

Now she's just weird. She can and will run up like a reinhardt and take a fight at fairly close range. Time will tell if this ends up staying effective once it hits live, but Seagull played her like a bloodthirsty warhorse and got work done.

I'm not fully opposed to this, but...like I said, it's wierd. But they have to do something now, because with Sigma, double shield is now a legit strategy where it wasn't before. Sigma has synergy with Rein and especially Orisa the same way Mercy and Pharah do, with their defensive abilities overlapping such that bunker shield strategy has become obscenely powerful. So it might very well be the case that this massive nerf to shields, especially Orisa's shield, is actually necessary and her design simply has to change now that Sigma's in the game.

(for the record, this is the issue I have with this non-stop stream of adding heroes every 3-4 months. I feel like we have just about every concievable design role for a shooter filled at this rate, so characters are now have really wierd functions or are redundant hybrids. Ashe being a clear hybrid of McCree and Widowmaker is the most obvious case here. I feel like slowing down and trying to figure out what kind of design the game would benefit from would be preferable over adding new heroes just to add them)

But on the other hand, I'm always conflicted when the design philosophy of a character changes so drastically. We already have DPS tanks in Roadhog and D.Va, so I'm not sure if Orisa can compete in that category.

Damn, i keep reading these patch notes and feeling like this is going to be a huge change to the pacing of the game. I already was reluctant to play Sigma or Orisa after the couple of nerfs to them, which left me only competent w/ Roadhog. Although he seems to be in a good spot for whatever meta forms up, it looks like i need to brush up on some of the other tanks if I’m going to avoid feeling like I’m throwing if i queue tank.

Oh well. I’ve always wanted to try Rein, but hated queuing solo with him. I guess role lock makes this as good a time as any. Maybe i can finally crack D.Va also. When i play here my mech is paper, when the other team pays her, i can’t keep here out of my face.

With Sigma’s shield becoming weaker and weaker, and regen continuing to get worse, do you think they’d revert the cool down on deploy? I hate how clunky he feels with it. If they don’t want shield wars, I’d actually take a Sigma shield w/ like 500hp, but no cool down on place/recall.

Not sure what Seagull was playing against, I'm assuming not other GM players, but with the shield nerfs we should be seeing more ranged DPS again. Armor buffs are a nerf to reaper and with the nerf to double shield, we should see more Widow/Hanzo/Ashe/McCree among others. If that shieldless cow wants to run up with that massive head, she's inevitably going to have a bad time.

I'd also wager her design was flawed from the beginning and her entire package didn't make much sense, but I can see where your concerns are coming from. Having said that, I'm hopeful this will transition Overwatch back to being a FPS ever so slightly. As to the 'adding heroes every 3-4 months', that won't be an issue anymore for now. Sigma has been close to 3 months and Echo will probably arrive somewhere next year. Other than that, we good. Calling Ashe a hybrid McCree/Widow when her kit is totally different makes me sad though.

I mostly play Mystery Heroes and fighting against 3 or 4 enemies with barriers is a nightmare, so I welcome this change ASAP.

Just need to learn natural cover and better positioning.
omg i can so relate

when i tried to force winston when he was still somewhat viable last year, i would get a we need a shield a comment a ton, even before the game started and on some good winston maps, lots didn't know how to play w/o a shield back then, can't imagine now...

i really liked to play winston on some 2cp maps back then iirc with lots of spots i could abuse.. of course, i haven't played him in forever now.

Oh fuck this. Support just got even worse to play with shield protections getting nerfed hard.
Which supports? Moira got an actual nerf, but lack of shields will be just as useful for support players. Ana can actually land sleeps and nades now, and won't have her healing blocked off and Zen's discords can once again make a difference. Hell, Healing in general will have an easier time going through since barriers blocked off even AoE healers like Lucio and Brigette.

The only one this harms is basically Mercy, since she doesn't target the enemy unless they pull out the pistol and her main defenses lay in flying around and dodging the enemy, so sheilds help her specifically, I don't think this is a BIG difference.

I'm happy that armour is back. It looked like they were phasing that out of the game with the Brig and Torb pema armor nerfs for a while there.

twitch highlight compilations aka a bunch of clips of people messing around with PTR

rein and orisa witgh so much speed looks amazing.

i want to say rein + lucio will be meta, but you want brig too for armor, then you don't get enough heals, so idk.

Brushing up on my Rein and Brig for the next meta. Looking forward to a change of pace.

Edit: Nothing annoys me more than tanks that think they're ranged DPS only when playing escort. FYI the supports should not be only characters escorting the cart.

The 2-2-2 role-lock Q-times might take longer, but it's still better than getting 4-5 dps on your team with no healer and/or shield-tank, lol.

Edit: Btw, Blizzard added "QuickPlay Classic" to the Arcade, if you prefer playing without role-lock.

Surprised they not just give Tracer another blink and more damage to her gun.
I'm no Tracer main or anything, but I feel like that'd make her uncatchable. A good Tracer has to be hunted down already, with an extra blink only someone like Hammond could keep up (and all he can do against her is die).

After playing Rein for a while, and noticing how dependent he is on a good healer, watching Moira and Lucio run off to DPS is infuriating.

On the other hand, when the hell did Brig come up again? After the initial changes I remember her feeling like paper thin, but playing her most of the day today and as long as I don't over extend, she's a beast.

She's been good since her change with 2-2-2 but in certain situation where you have someone to dive on you, she's just not tanky enough to go and proc her heal otherwise. This next patch is a big buff for her though in that regard.

Yeah I'm playing her and Rein in prep for the big patch. 2/3 of my tank pool got nerfed. Really looking forward to Brig possibly being meta though. She's a ton of fun to play.

Brig was abandoned, because people don't feel like learning her new playstyle. She's not the one wonder tank anymore, but with a shift in playstyle she can still be a big asset of the team. Armor buffs help her out in this case again.
