Nice skin, but not what i was expecting. That young/long hair version from her Origins video would have been so much better. I mean event is called "Archives". Blizzard wyd??
Long, unbound hair is a bitch to animate. It's why Ashe's concept art showed her with long hair, but cropped it off when they made the actual character model. The closest we'll get is Widow's long ponytail.

I'm so-so on Ashe, but in it for the Bob

Alright, so my skin rankings are thus:

Must Haves:
Talon Baptist (Killmonger fuck yea)
Scientist Moira (I honestly feel this should have been her default look. It fits her character best.)

Want and will probably get:
High Roller Hammond
Racer Zarya (This is probably the best color palette swap variant of her default look)
Socialite Ashe

Indifferent:
Gwishin Bastion
Deadlock McCree (No cape, no buy)

Do Not Want:
Circus Junkrat (seriously, why)

worthless garbage trash:
Formal: 76 (the quality of the skin itself is actually really well made and probably would be in must haves section if not for the character it's attached to)

I see this excuse from DPS Moiras, but they don't need recharge until they've actually healed, and healing orb is a better method of healing than trying to DPS and healing after, but no they won't be using that.
That’s one of the reasons why I want them to remove that restriction, it’s like they’re herding people towards an offensive play style. I’ve been guilty of playing too offensively as Moira since you get lost in battle.

I will only rank Legendary skins because i don't care about the Epic ones:

Love:
-Scientist Moira

Like:
-Socialite Ashe
-Talon Baptiste

Hate/Don't Care About:

-McCree
-Soldier
-Bastion

Overall pretty disappointed compared to last year Archives skins.

So I asked if your QuickPlay MMR affects your starting Competitive SR for new accounts and got 2 answers (below)...
Yes, your quickplay performance is used to establish an initial baseline for competitive.
Is this actually true though? I've seen a lot of people say that, but from personal experience and from even high level streamers on new accounts, the first placement game always seems to be somewhere in gold. Unless those high level players are just buying accounts that have already been leveled up. Mainly looking at Kabaji, he's now done 3 of his unranked to GM accounts and all three the first placement game was somewhere in gold. I can't imagine if he leveled up an account in QP it would make him start there.
Can anyone verify which one is true?

Well, someone else say they started in diamond in the first placement, so it could be true that QP matters.

Either way it probably doesn't matter too much as if you tryhard in placements it will put you close to your skill level anyway. If you mess around in QP and then tryhard in comp, you'll probably win more games than if you tryhard in both.

You should be more concerned about winning your first couple placement games. If you lose your first two, you might place low plat at best. It can vary wildly in your first couple games.

For example when I recently placed my new account, my first game was high gold average, won that and second game had both plat and diamond players, lost that and was back to playing with gold and a few plat players.

Blizzard has never come out and said anything on the issue.

Last time I heard it was very small affect, you'll still wind up a few hundred from 2500, highest I've heard was mid diamond. When you first start placements it uses your qp mmr as a baseline but from what I've seen it's more towards lowering your rank then increasing it.

Just play your best and go from there. You wont get masters or gm through initial placements. Plus you have a period after placements where it'll give you a boost in sr if you do well.

Yeah, I think they also changed the system so you can't place super high. I remember watching something long ago where someone got 3500 on their first placements, but they went 8-2, winning the first 7 games in a row.

Competitive arcade is a good example how you really can't place that high even if you do amazing, and I'm betting regular comp works like that now too. IDDQD went 10-0 in FFA comp last year and got mid-diamond.

You know that Overwatch is drawing people back with it's events when the match-chat has a person asking if D.Va is over 18 so they can feel safe about seeing porn of her

I believe it’s been always like that tho

Also. No symmetra or zen skin BOOO
Speaking of, I was just thinking how Sym could enable some really cool PvE plays with her teleport. Limitless Uprising is gonna be fun now that you can enable altering positions on a whim. Sym could benefit more from it than any other character work.

Overwatch Storm Rising merchandise is now available to buy and there's a shirt with Talon on it that has both Maximilian and Doomfist. Which makes the idea that he'll be a boss in the event more plausible.

HERO UPDATES
Junkrat

  • Frag Launcher
    • Projectile speed increased from 20 to 25
    • Grenades now bounce less but explode sooner
Developer Comments: With this change, we’re looking to slightly increase the range at which Junkrat can land direct hits. The speed of his bombs has increased, but we tuned it so this wouldn’t affect the arc of his projectile. This means that aiming with it will feel the same. The grenades bounce less and explode sooner, which will allow Junkrat to aim them more deliberately. This will reduce the amount of rolling grenade spam when playing against him.

Reaper

  • Shadow Step
    • Can now be used in air
    • Time to exit Shadow Step reduced from 1.0 second to 0.5 of a second
    • Reaper is now invisible for the entire time it takes to exit shadow step
    • Railings and other breakable objects no longer block teleporting
    • Disabled by Zarya’s Graviton Surge and Junkrat’s Steel Trap
Developer Comments: Shadow Step was originally intended to be purely an out-of-combat mobility tool to traverse the map, since Wraith Form was already a great tool for disengaging. However, this made Shadow Step very situational, so we’re increasing its flexibility to make it a better, less niche ability. This will enable Reaper to use Shadow Step in more offensive situations.

Symmetra

  • Teleporter
    • Railings and other breakable objects no longer block teleporter placement and teleporting

Very disappointed with the mission.

It's basically Uprising/Retribution. No new enemies, no new abilities or driving like some ppl were speculating, no boss battle. It's just so boring and very similar to previous two. Map is great tho. But other than that i am really disappointed.

BTW. Got new Ashe skin in one of my 8 boxes.

Mission is fun to play, bugs me big time though. Three new (?) characters introduced, none of which with any real substance to them or any real information given and two teases which will result in nothing.

I really should give up the hope that we'll get some actual story.

It's so cool to try Nu-Sym and Nu-Torb in the other missions on Legendary. Sym's ult is infinitely a lot more useful in Uprising and her teleporter is op in Retribution lol. Wish this event was a lot longer than just three weeks.

Jeff confirmed that there is something big and secret they are working on and excited to show us. He says it is not something that has been requested or talked about to their knowledge.

Jeff confirmed there are two large systematic changes being worked on, but neither is a guild system. They love the idea of a guild system but are not sure about its implementation yet.

The follow up to the above was asking about role queue. Jeff wouldn’t say whether it’s confirmed or not but said once again that he’s a huge proponent of it. He said there are some difficulties such as building in incentives to play tanks and healers. He knows there’s the negative incentive to play DPS which would be long queue times, but they further desire positive incentives to play tanks and healers.

He says Anniversary cosmetics are potentially the best Overwatch has seen and teased that there will be a a DVa skin that he says will absolutely “Break the Internet”.

The event would have been capped off pretty well if we ended it with a boss fight. It wouldn't even have had to been a super good boss fight, just one giant ass enemy with a shitload of HP that everyone has to take down together.

As is, it's good, but just kinda anticlimactic.

  • The Havana map will be a PVP map later down the road.
  • Echo and Sojorn is NOT hero 31.
  • Jeff Kaplan: “We are never making Jetpack cat!”
  • Jeff Kaplan: There are big plans for Junkerqueen. More on the long-term front.
  • Jeff Kaplan: The dev team is more focused on “feature content”.
  • The Anniversary Event is going to be cool because we have a feature that many have asked for that is going to be really huge for the game.
  • Jeff Kaplan says there is going to be a skin for the Anniversary event that is “going to break the internet”.
  • Coming this summer and the early fall are a couple of more features that have been asked for by the community.
  • Guilds/Clans is NOT coming soon and not one of the upcoming features.
  • Cross platform play for Overwatch: “We would love to work on the details and challenges for that. But it’s challenging from a technical and business standpoint.”
  • Comics are in development.
  • There is no major reworks plan for any hero at this time.
  • We are definitely entertaining the idea of forced 2-2-2/role queue.
  • We have no immediate plans for permanent free-to-play.
  • No confirmation if Overwatch will come out for the Nintendo Switch at this time.
  • Jeff Kaplan: "We are looking to make further improvements to visually-impaired and hearing-impaired players including a subtitle system.
  • The design team consists of players ranging from Bronze to Grandmaster in the Competitive ranks.
  • Making a story mode would be as ambitious as many a brand-new game.
  • Last comment from Jeff Kaplan: “There is a really cool PVP surprise coming to the PTR very soon! Please be looking out for it!”
