Title meant to say "how do games running at 1080p look on it....ooops!

Considering grabbing a gigabye m32q for one of our rooms but it would mostly be for 1080p gaming and even 720p gaming (xbox 360, ps3).

How do games look running at 1080p? fine? ass? and if you reply, how picky are you when it comes to IQ?

Thanks in advance !

ALSOOOO any recs for a decent 32" 1080p non curved monitor? :'D doesnt need to have super fast refresh rate but would prefer it to!

I tried playing my Ps4 on my 1440p monitor and it was noticeable honestly, the games run fine but you're stretching out that res and the image will look as such.

They look like ass for that purpose (1080p input content) - don't do it. Definitely go with a 1080p screen.

I'm relatively picky about IQ but I think even not very picky people would agree it'll look bad.

On my screen when I play on PS5 it looks a bit worse, you lose some sharpness but it's not something worth clawing my eyes out over

I wish they'd just enable 1440p support already

I really wouldn't recommend full screen 1080p on a 1440p monitor - it looks bad, and I'm not usually very picky when to comes to image quality.

It's very noticeable, but it really depends on how sensitive or how much it matters to you. In my opinon, I notice much easier the 1080p in a 1440p Monitor, than 1080p or 720p in the 4K TV, and I imagine it has to do with how well the device scales the image.

bad, just save yourself the money and get 1080p unless you're actually planning on running a bunch of 1440p-native output (ie PC games) on it

There's nothing I can recommend with those specs, because 32" is too big for 1080p IMO. I think it's fine at best at 1440p at a normal viewing distance.

If it's gonna be used as a TV with you sitting a bit further away then it should be fine with any decent monitor though.

I would only recommend 1440p if you're going to be PC gaming on it (since games will be rendered at that resolution). For console gaming, it's not worth it. At some point consoles will properly support that res, I hope, though there seems to be a push to just skip from 1080 to 4K entirely.

The higher the resolution of the display the less you will notice the distortion caused by non-native resolutions. 720p content looked rough on my 1080p set but when I upgraded to a 4k TV it looked much better.

Not good honestly. One of the main reasons I'd like to upgrade my gpu. With that said, I can live with it.

Does this work properly? No input lag?
no input lag. the color is about the same. only thing i notice is for the blacks are tiny tiny bit on the white side than the orig image

this is what it looks like with my capture card. since capture card only can do 1080p, this is mainly to let you see the color difference. its pretty negligible.

Integer scales are a lot easier. 1080p to 4K is doubling the horizontal and vertical, 720p to 4K is tripling. 1080p to 1440p is scaling up by a third in both directions. You'd may even find you get better IQ going from 720p to 1440p on a 1440p monitor than 1080p to 1440p.

1080 on a 1440 monitor just doesn't look good. If you're lucky enough to have a 1440 monitor that downscales a 4K signal, that's the way to go.

Glad someone asked this. My RX 590 is great for 1080p but not really up to 1440p I don't think. But after spending so many years with a Retina MacBook and iPad Air the pixelated and blurriness of 1080p is also noticeable. Was hoping for a middle ground wheee the PC UI is 1440p but I just play games at 1080

32" Samsung G7 here, playing Halo Infinite at 1080p and it's definitely noticeably blurry/muddy. 24" max for 1080 / 32" max for 1440p imo but if you're playing 360/ps3 games it's going to look blurry regardless.

You also don't need a high refresh rate monitor if you're playing old consoles because they run at 30/60 max regardless. I'd recommend a cheap 32" Full HD TV from Sony/Phillips/Toshiba over a monitor.

Switch games that look good on 1080p still look good. Animal crossing looks really good on my pc monitor. Games with jaggies look bad. Pokémon Diamond and Metroid dread looks hazy due to jaggies within 3 feet or less

mannn thats the thing. Itll be mainly for older consoles from that generation but i wouldnt mind to have the flexibility of hooking my pc up to it when i feel like it.

and full HDTV pixel response times are SO BAD :( they ghost and smear and they are terrible thats why i was looking at a monitor instead as they seem to have better pixel response times

My sony bravia from back then has a 32ms pixel response time /vomit

Yeah itll be used at tv distance not monitor-the reason i want a monitor is as above, FHDTVs at 32" have terrible pixel response times. too much ghosting and fugly

1080p looks bad on my 1440p dell monitor. I have a series S, and the games that cant hit 1440p look noticeably worse.

I tried the mclassic to scale certain 1080p games up, works as intended, but cant say id recommend it considering the price. its better but still quite soft, and reminds sometimes me of those dodgy filters you see on older emulators.

There are HDMI splitters out there that can do scaling on the split signal... so say you had a series x running 4k to your TV, but also split off to your PC monitor, you could downscale that incoming 4k signal to 1440p.

I tested one of them out once, but it didnt play nicely with some of my other systems so i sent it back.

There are no easy answers to this problem!

I upgraded to the G7 from a HP Omen 32" 1440p 75hz monitor that's currently in my spare room for chromecasting, would be perfect for you then I think with a 5ms response time. I don't know if they still sell them though as I did buy mine a few years ago.

Both of these things. For evenly divisible resolutions - 720p to 4K and 1080p to 4K can scale perfectly. For not evenly divisible resolutions - scaling 900p to 1080p looks worse than scaling 900p to 4K because the 4K display can approximate the 900p image better (because of higher resolution).

I know it shouldn't make a difference, but 1080p on my PS5 looks fine to me but 1080p on PC games look blurry. Maybe its a matter of expectations. I know PS5 doesn't support 1440p so I can't compare the difference to notice.

I have a 27 inch 4k monitor that I use at 1080p for gaming.
Tbh, it depends on the game. Need for speed Heat looks bad, like there is a vaseline filter. FFXIV, on the other hand, looks ok. A bit blurry but it never got me out of the game like NSF did.

Also 720 o 1080 scale evenly on a 4K display since it's a simple integer scaler. 1080p doesn't not scale evenly to 1440p so it'll always kinda look like shit.

As someone who is very attentive to these kind of things, not unplayable but definitely a worse image. I can play my Switch though because I was never expecting a good image from it to begin with lol

Like others are saying I wouldn't do this if your priority is 1080p. If you think you'd eventually use it natively, 720p -> 1440p could be good for now, but 1080p will always be a bit blurry

I have a 1440p monitor, but for work/personal computers and a PS5/Series X. Series X is native 1440p @ 120hz, I run the PS5 at 4k and it downscales to 1440p, but I lose the ability for higher refresh rates doing this

I think scaled images generally look worse on monitors than TVs due to less processing.

Switch kinda looks worse on my 1080p/144hz IPS than my 4k OLED.

I got an Acer 1440p monitor. 1080p looks absolutely awful on it lol. My 4K TV upscales 1080p content waaaaaaay better.

It's definitely fine for PC gaming, but consoles are a different bag entirely when using monitors.

I️ did it for a few years with a 24" and it was honestly fine.

stretching it to 32" I️ can imagine it being a lot more noticeable however

It looks pretty bad. It's actually better to display 1080p content on a 4K / Ultra HD display, due to integer scale (4K being exactly 4 times the resolution). 1080p doesn't scale properly to 1440p, so it's quite blurry.

Series S looks great on it since even when the game is running at 1080p the system will output 1440p directly.

PS5 will look like ass on it because it will output at only 1080p, leaving the monitor to upscale it to 1440p, which is not divisible by 1080p. So there isn't 4:1 pixel matching like when viewing 1080p content on a 4K display.

So the same game running on PS5 will actually look far worse (resolution wise) on a 1440p screen than on Series S, a machine with roughly 1/3 of the GPU power. This is a matter of Sony not wanting to enable 1440p output on PS5 for whatever reason. And it sure as hell isn't a technical one.

(There are 1440p screens which accept a 4K signal however. This fixes that problem.)

I have a Pixio P277 27" 1440p and a Series S and maybe I'm blind but nothing looks bad. Everything looks great so far. No issues with games looking blurry or anything.
