EA's 'FIFA 18' re-claims top spot for the first time since a 3 week consecutive run from launch last year (weeks 39/40/41).

Activision Blizzard's 'Call of Duty: WWII' drops to No2 after 9 consecutive No1's, which means it equals but not beats the most consecutive weeks at No1 for a COD title (2009's 'Modern Warfare 2' held a total of 9 weeks at No1, all consecutive). Rockstar/Take 2 climb 2 places to No3 with perennial favourite 'GTA V' – incredibly after over 4 years since launch (225 weeks on chart) the game has never been out of the All Formats Top 40 – in fact 191 out of 225 positions (85%) are within the All Formats Top 10. Ubisoft remain at No4 for a third consecutive week with 'Assassin's Creed Origins' – 11 weeks after launch and the title has still dropped no lower than No6 on this chart. EA take No's 5 and 6 with 'Star Wars Battlefront II' and 'The Sims 4'. Microsoft climb 7 places back in to the Top 10 at No10 with 'Forza Motorsport 7', Warner climb 6 places to No11 with 'Rocket League: Collectors Edition' and Activision continue to climb with 'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare', up 5 places to No17 thanks to January sales.

Why the jumps for FM7 and PUBG? Were these in bundles? Also SWBF2 higher on Xbox than PS4 - I find this odd. This game has always been significantly higher on PS4 thus far in the UK.

splatoon 2 is curious. It re-entered last week I believe, and now has held on to the 21st place. Wonder why it is holding better than before all of a sudden.

PUBG biggest selling console exclusive? Consider me surprised, also nice climb for the game. Wom seems to be ok, too.

Thank you very much. Great work as usual.

Regarding SMO, it went from 1st to 3rd Bestselling Switch title in France. I believe it is because the title is supply constrained here.

You mean in France?

But yeah, that trend has been reported in Japan as well, where both Splatoon 2 and MK8D passed the game. Of course, it had an incredibly impressive start, so it might take a slight backseat relatively speaking compared to perennial sellers like MK8D and BOTW for a while (but it probably still has really good legs regardless).

ACO holding on to fourth with a sickle.

Wonder if Forza 7 has had a boost with renewed interest in the console regarding PUBG or just a discount?

It looks like a lot of Nintendo stuff is supply constrained over there (at least on Amazon). Both Switch SKUs, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2.

Switch holiday numbers in France might be huge. I hope Nintendo will reveal them soon.

Isn't it just a digital code in the box though? I'd imagine most will buy this digital on the store, so I can't see it having physical legs.

EDIT: Yes this is just a download code, no disc.

Rising one place with a 50% Week over week units drop, tho.

This is January. Sales are going down while you improve your chart position. Nothing unusual.
Sure, but maintaining a good position (or even rising a spot) suggests that your drop is milder than the drop of other games, i.e. your legs are holding stronger than the other games' legs. Not unusual indeed, since BOTW has shown to have strong legs throughout 2017.

I'm more curious how well MK8D's legs are, since it went down 3 places, while I expected it to have stronger legs than BOTW myself. Might be because relatively many kids got MK8D during the holiday, meaning that the drop towards the regular position is bigger.

As far as I'm aware in Japan MK8D is the game currently facing shortages, Splatoon 2 and SMO are still readily available.
As for France, SMO was sold out on Amazon.fr for nearly 2 weeks, currently its dropped all the way to 41 for 2018, while MK8D/Zelda/Splatoon 2 continue to occupy the top 5.

I imagine PUBG is selling 3 or 4 times more digitally direct on the store compared to the code in a box. I suspect its doing absolute gangbusters.

Switch SKUs are not supply constrained but they did increase the price.

Regarding Switch software, Amazon is a wasteland. You can add these supply constrained games :

- 1-2 Switch
- FIFA 18
- Mario+Rabbids
- Just Dance 18
- Just Dance 17 (this one is hilarious because JD18 sold out very quickly and then people started to buy JD17)
- Snipperclips
- LA Noire

Etc etc.

You answered your own question by questioning if they those two were bundled, which they were! And I believe Forza Motorsport 7 can be found for £20 since the beginning of this year too.

The Xbox One X is creeping down in price with bundles of three, four or more games as well. I don't remember the PS4 Pro receiving the same (generous bundling) treatment quite so soon after launch, because I bought one myself.

There is not chance of physical only accounting for 20-25% of PUBG sales on the Xbone one. Not when the physical copies was available day and date with digital.

I remember Pro being available for £329 (instead of £349) in January last year, but I didn't mind because I got it for like £310 or something via a Tesco pre-order and a discount code. Not sure if there were any bundles, but let's remember that most of the games being bundled with the X are things like DOOM and Fallout 4 which are only £10 new.

X was 'ambitiously' priced by Microsoft, shall we say. I think they know that a console hasn't a chance of selling well at £449, even if it had something like GTA6 as an exclusive. But they also know that there are early adopters (like me) that just have to have everything at launch. Having taken full advantage of people like me, we'll now inevitably see the price move down towards the £349 mark in time for Autumn. They also have the advantage that X is now very much seen as a 'premium' piece of hardware, regardless of where the price heads going forward.
There is not chance of physical only accounting for 20-25% of PUBG sales on the Xbone one. Not when the physical copies was available day and date with digital.
There is no physical copy, what you are seeing at #7 in this chart is just a digital download code in a box.

After what we found out about digital attach rate climbing in recent years and how many people were wrong about this, I would be cautios to use "not chance".

I was commenting mainly about SMO, MK8D and Splatoon 2. In Japan retailers seemingly have enough stock of SMO and Splatoon 2 but underestimated MK8D. In France retailers didn't underestimate Splatoon 2 and MK8D since both those games don't appear to be facing shortages - SMO demand however is seemingly greater than the supply.

I'm aware that there are shortages in Japan for physical copies of Zelda, Xenoblade 2, FIFA 18, DBX2, 1 2 Switch, Arms etc.

If sales are down and chart position improved it means that drop is lower with respect to other games, which is a good news. Also consider that Switch games are selling at full price.

We are going to find out with PUBG just how big the digital take up is, I saw MS tweet something over the weekend/back of last week how they are going to tell us how well it's doing, I expect a very large % to be digital.

No chance? Could be even lower.
When some AAA $60 retail games already manage > 50% digital sales, why do you think a cheap(er) digital online game could not reach 75% or more?

If sales are down and chart position improved it means that drop is lower with respect to other games, which is a good news. Also consider that Switch games are selling at full price.
Yeah that's the right take on it. And how you should read chart position in comparison to sales. Every Week by the way.

How do you go from just over 50% digital for destiny 2 to 75% PUBG in 3 months?

There is no physical (disc) release of PUBG. It is just a code in a box. Destiny had a disc in the box. So unless you have some affinity to buying games at a B&M store, or they offer a discount, you will likely buy it online.
