I just want to say that I forgot that Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn came out last week like every single living person in the entire world did so I only bought it this week so you can be assured that it sold at least 1 copy for next week's chart. Doing my part here.

Thanks tolkir for the data :D

GTAV is now above RDR2 :p

Not a bad split for the X1 version of DMCV !

Actually, I don't feel the comparison between both Capcom games is so inappropiate. Both series never had the same kind of reach, at least since RE action games took it to a new level. What I wonder now is, aside of internal expectations, what's the budget for these two games, and whether it is comparable or not.

If they cost a similar amount to make, I'd say it was Capcom who did an unrealistic thing.

So as expected UK was not the exception, so far for Devil May Cry 5 we have:

Japan 1/2 of Resident Evil 2
UK 1/3
Spain 1/4

Do we know what's the DMC5 split is like? The usual or more balanced due to Xbox marketing? UK only.

Before MHW Resident Evil was by far Capcom's most popular series. DMC5 never ever had a chance of outselling it. DMC5's lifetime sales probably wont exceed Remake 2's first shipment.

The way you are framing the comparison is not realistic

I never suggested it had a chance of outselling RE2. I'm making the comparison in relative to sales expectations. Both games are wholly representative of a publisher listening to its fanbases' demands and giving them what they want. REmake 2, not even a mainline entry but a remake that eschews the action-heavy fare of 5 and 6 in favour of the slow-burn horror of 7, appears to be performing according to or even beyond what Capcom expects of it. DMCV on the other hand is the direct sequel to the best-selling installment in a franchise that completely glosses over the polarising reboot that the vast majority of veteran fans didn't even ask for. It's a big deal. Not as much as a AAA Resi game, but a big deal nonetheless, and based on what the UK, Spain and Japan markets are telling us so far, it's performing below expectations.

That's like saying that Zelda is not success because Mario Kart is selling better.

The genre and historical sales of a franchise is vital to determine its selling potential.

That's a nonsensical comparison to make since BotW has performed beyond expectations, whereas Mario Kart 8 - an entry in one of the biggest franchises of all time - is performing as well as one would expect it to, so no one would ever say that Zelda isn't a success in the first place.

And I'm not sure Bayonetta 2 is a sound comparison either. Same genre sure, but far lower in budget and the very definition of 'niche' in a franchise that generally has flopped commercially.

But yes, if Bayonetta 2 had a better first week than DMCV then that rings some alarm bells.

Then you agree with me :p It would be better to compare DMCV with past entries rather than RE2.

Their expectations aren't public, so it makes no sense to assume it's doing above or below anything.

EDIT: I'm getting RE7 deja vu with DMC5. Capcom was happy with RE7's performance early on, but many observers on both this forum and its predecessor were quick to jump to conclusions.

DMC V will need to be carried heavily by the US.

Regardless, what we're seeing is these games just aren't that popular. Not that they don't sell well but seems like the ceiling isn't super high for stylish action unless you count GoW, even then the game sold way more when they slowed down the combat

Wish DMC V were doing better, it's fantastic. Should be interesting to see how it sells on pc.

I'm hoping DMC5 getting cracked/leaked Day 1 doesn't have too much impact on PC sales.
Sales have potentially been affected. Hard to say. SteamSpy pegs sales at 200-500k currently, which isn't bad. And it's still ranking okay-ish on the Steam top sellers. If it weren't cracked it might be doing better, though.

People on Reddit and social media keep parroting that the game supposedly sold 3 million copies which is patently untrue. To my annoyance, sensible discussion of DMC 5's sales have been undermined by people who only care about making DMC 5 look good and DmC 2013 look bad. It's crazy how ANGRY some people are about the latter game.

Mario domination in France! Where's the Mario character action title for the full top 5.
