Activision Blizzard's 'Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice' cuts 'Tom Clancy's The Division 2' down to No2.

It was a close run thing, but developer From Software now has its second All Formats No1 ('Dark Souls III reached No1 back in week 15 2016). 'FIFA 19' jumps one place from No4 to No3, while 'Grand Theft Auto V' and 'Red Dead Redemption 2' fall to Nos 4 and 5 respectively.

I was waiting to read how Sekiro was 20% of DS3 or something and how it's totally gonna flop because UK charts are extremely accurate at gauging global success for a title.

With digital it is below Dark Souls III but above Bloodborne.

A good performance for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

UK top paid for Xbox. Really good for Sekiro to be that high. The chart is also delayed abit so it can take the top spot in the coming days.
As example DMCV "only"managed to get arround #5 at the end as top place. Offcourse DMCV has more versions of the game tho.

Sekiro is 30% below Bloodborne, sounds a little disappointing (how much did Bloodborne already ?) but we can certainly add a better digital share since March 2015 (damn son, the game of the gen is 4 years old). Compared to Bloodborne, I guess some PS4 users bought the game on PC instead and we know the Steam launch was very strong. Also, another 80% PS4 split for a game revealed during a Microsoft conference : https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...die-twice-is-the-seventh-new-no-1-of-the-year

Crash Switch ahead of the other versions again. I was expecting it to happen much earlier, but better late than never.

That's impressive, especially when you factor in the undoubtedly higher digital share and the fact that it's a brand new IP.
Sekiro
80% PS4
20% XBO

Hot damn
It amazes me people are surprised. If you like these kinds of games, what console are you going to own this gen? Microsoft needs to work hard to make their next platform appealing to a wide range of gamers from day one, or they'll end up in the same situation next gen too. It's way too late for a shift this late in the generation.

With digital it's above BB. I bought the game on Steam because I wanted that 60 fps goodness.

With the number of multiplat Japanese games that we got since the beginning of the year, I don't think they are still surprised.

80% share for PS was inevitable.

Over the course of this gen the share ratio has becoming increasingly lopsided in favour of PS and, in my opinion, is indicative of what's going on in the UK games market in terms of momentum and mind share.
You can't really use Sekiro as indicative of anything. PS4 has Bloodborne as an exclusive, so if you like From Software's games, you're much more likely to have a PS4.

with digital it's probably somewhere around 7/3?
Maybe it's even higher including digital? When the difference is so big you can't recover with your better digital ratio share. If the game have sold 10k total (as example) and 8k are on PS4 and 2k on xbox one for selling better than PS4 they have to sell over 80% Digital and on PS4 30% or less. So it's impossible to recover that margin it's probably higher than 80/20 including digital.

This has been the case for the whole gen for Japanese games: FFXV 75/25, KH3 82/18, DS3 71/26, MHW 72/28.

Western games have better splits: Anthem 54/40, The Division 2 60/40, Far Cry New Dawn 60/39, Metro Exodus 57/43?.

The issue is that the audience for Japanese games is much more present on PS4, both in absolute and in relative numbers. It's not indicative of any major changes in the market imo. Unless, you're comparing the PS4/XB1 era with the PS3/XB360, in which case you are right, but that comparison has long been done and brings little new insight. The split of PS4/XB1 in early lifetime is not significantly different form the current state.

Sekiro doing pretty well. DMCV hit 2M and Sekiro is tracking ahead of that. Maybe somewhere around 3M?

Edit - Bloodborne launch was strong.

These kind of caveats tend to obfuscate the bigger picture. There are simply too many examples of PS engulfing the lion's share of launch sales. My point is that it's been gradual over the course of the gen.

Attrition if you will. But attrition based on momentum and mind share. As a UK gamer that's just my opinion based on what I'm seeing here.

Unless, you're comparing the PS4/XB1 era with the PS3/XB360, in which case you are right, but that comparison has long been done and brings little new insight. The split of PS4/XB1 in early lifetime is not significantly different form the current state.

Yeah the 360/ps3 in terms of momentum here in the UK. It's staggering seeing the mind share sea change. And while you did bring up some western games being a little more even there are other western games where the split is still lopsided.
