Week 13, 2018 - All Formats (Units)

'Far Cry 5' storms to the top of the All Formats Chart this week becoming the biggest launch in the franchise's history. Released on Tuesday it just manages to topple 'Far Cry 4', which debuted at No2 in W47 2014 (behind GTA V). It is impressive for a game launched in the first quarter of the year and positions it as the biggest seller ever in a week 13 (beating Bioshock Infinite). Naturally it is also the biggest launch of the year so far. The PS4 version is publisher Ubisoft's 6th biggest launch in terms of revenue for a title on an individual format.

A large number of Easter sales as well as promotions across hardware bundles shake up the rest of the chart. 'FIFA 18' sales are up 61% pushing it from No5 to No2, ahead of last week's No1 'Sea of Thieves' which drops 2 places to No3. 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' overtakes 5 titles to claim 4th place, while promotional hardware bundling propels 'Playerunknown's Battlegrounds' back in to the Top 10 at No5. 'Call of Duty: WWII' and 'Assassin's Creed Origins' are also back in the Top 10 at No's 6 and 8 respectively thanks to Easter deals, while a large price drop kicks 'Forza Motorsport 7' in to top gear as it reappears in the Top 40 at No9.

France did a good job with Ni no Kuni II :) That game deserve so much more love than what it is getting on Era. On the other hand, the "record breaking" Microsoft IP couldn't even beat the usual Switch games there.

Also one additionnal tidbit about Far Cry 5 huge launch in the UK : it dit better than AC Origins and Ghost Recon Wildlands.

Yesterday I posted these estimates for Far Cry 5, but now that I read the full PR note they are not as accurate as I would like because Far Cry 5 is Ubisoft's 6th biggest launch in terms of revenue for a title on an individual format, and my estimates are in terms of units.

https://www.resetera.com/posts/6241207/

Assassin's Creed III (Xbox 360) - 196,000
Watch Dogs (PlayStation 4) - 190,000
The Division (PlayStation 4) - 149,000
Assassin's Creed III (PlayStation 3) - 136,000
The Division (Xbox One) - 124,000
Far Cry 5 (PlayStation 4)
Assassin's Creed Revelations (Xbox 360) - 120,000
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Xbox 360) - 114,000

Far Cry 5 (All Formats) ~ 200,000-210,000 units

The gamesindustry.biz article that released on Sunday: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...5-uk-launch-is-the-biggest-in-far-cry-history

Some key points:
- Far Cry 5 biggest launch of the year, way bigger than previous Far Cry games (Zhuge said about 2x as large)
- Detective Pikachu sales ROSE 76%, Christopher Dring speculates maybe shortages last week
- Many games got a rise in sales due to the price promotions: FIFA, MK8D, BOTW, SMO, AC:O, COD WWII, PUBG
- Sea of Thieves dropped 52%, A Way Out 61%

Great week for sales, strong performance from many titles and a smash hit in Far Cry 5!

So Ni No Kuni 2's drop is not awful I guess. Good to see its debut in France too.

Fifa on Switch has finally been back in stock a lot of places and back down to the ÂŁ22 mark, so hope we get the break down chart this week

Pretty sure there are more Xbox One's sold in France then there are Switches sold in Germany/UK.
What the relevance of that comparison?

XB1 in France should be well above 1M, but that's a lot less than PS4 has, and Switch should pass it in the following months. As such, Sea of Thieves has a not-too-big audience to sell to, is a digital-focused title so should skew towards digital, and furthermore has competition from the most popular publisher in France with multiple blockbuster titles (the Nintendo games). Add to that that France in general skews strongly towards Japanese games, and I don't find it at all surprising that Sea of Thieves isn't in the top 5. Doesn't at all mean that it did poorly over there (or, phrased differently: did less than expected).

Just the individual charts will give a good insight, too, I think, since we know a number for Sea of Thieves (11k or thereabouts), and of course the ranking itself always gives some info. Any moment, now....

No Sea of Thieves in France?

SoT probably won't do well in France.

Xbox is not very popular, and there's no buzz around the game here.

But it's still Europe.. they should love FIFA. I may assume Far Cry will be on top in the French charts next week.

Fifa did quite well here too, but it's less legging than in other coutries. At least not enough to outperform Nintendo's big games anda new Japan Anime RPG.

Also note that Guibli is REALLY popular in France.

My point was that the number of XB1 sold in France wasn't a insignificant number and SoT should have been able to chart in France Chart. Would you like provide the Physical/digital split for games in France. It can definitely be said it sold poorly at retail in France and the UK. Whether its success is another question.

Anecdotal: I haven't come across many French crews/teammates in SoT. While there are a lot of British crews and players. I have met quite some German and Spanish speaking crews.

I know Twitch isn't the best metric to use but French speakers are currently the third largest streaming group behind Thai.

Who are theses people that keep buying GTA V? Surely everyone with even slim interest in the game already bought it?
