Sony's PS4 'God of War' takes a fifth consecutive week at No1 – just one more No1 will see it equal the 6 consecutive weeks for Sony's 'The Last of Us' on PS3 (starting week 24, 2013).

There are around 17 core titles across 9 retailers being promoted throughout this month under the 'LetsPlayMay' campaign, but EA's 'FIFA 18', although not part of this campaign, benefits from massive retail promotion to rise 2 places to No2. So Nintendo's 'Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition' for Switch has to settle for a No3 debut – this is the same position the original 'Hyrule Warriors' on WiiU debuted back in week 38/2014. In terms of the aforementioned 'LetsPlayMay' campaign there are 13 titles in the Top 40 this week and 4 within the Top 10 – Warner's 'Lego Marvel Superheroes 2' (No6), Ubisoft's 'Assassins Creed Origins' (No7), Rockstar/Take 2's 'GTA V' (No9) and Activision's 'Call of Duty WWII' (No10). There are also a couple of Koch-distributed Atlus titles debuting this week, with 'Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Redux' for 3DS debuting at No31 and 'Dragon's Crown Pro' for PS4 debuting at No33.

Expected for GoW to take #1 but damn that DK legs is impressive! Labo is fading to obscurity.

Summer months in the past years were always the period were Nintendo handhelds would somewhat dominate the charts - or at least perform much better relatively to other systems.
Seems like Switch is continuing that trend.

So Hyrule Warriors didn't do that well compared to the Wii U version then? Interesting, Switch ports have usually outsold their Wii U counterparts but I guess Hyrule Warriors did perform very well on Wii U.

What's the next big release for the Switch? Cause clearly HW won't boost any hardware sales.

I'm new here (been reading on and off during years though), but I'm always surprised how little importance is given to the value based chart in UK. I would think that in a market with so many different price points and with various reasons for those different price points (some of them are "budget" titles, others are pretty old games, others have had bug price cuts in order to keep selling), it seems to me that the value chart seems to balance out the units chart and give another and similarly (or more?) important perspective. So looking at both should be... fairer?... to all the games in the charts. Am I getting it wrong?

This is related (but not exclusive to) the Labo bombing posts we have been seeing around for weeks now. Looking at the value chart, Variety Kit is a month after release still the tenth "game" that's making the most money for UK retailers, isn't it? It's certainly nothing amazing, and I'm sure Nintendo hoped (and maybe still hopes, as it's obvious they were planning on giving the biggest marketing push during holidays) for better results. What I find ridiculous is labeling it a bomb, or even talking about bad sales (Variety Kit it is, Robot Kit on the other hand could apply) with the sales trajectory it is having. Then again, Splatoon 2 was said to be dissapointing by some after it opened and it's sitting at #11 in the value chart a year after, so time will always tell.

BTW, in said Value Chart Kirby shot up from #40 to #22, and FIFA Switch reentried at #28. Did they receive any promotion or is it a small Switch HW boost?

Yeah two releases in top 10 sure is dominance.

Are you referring to the UK chart and when did 3DS ever dominate it and when has switch started to?

Fifa has had a push due to the world cup and a price cut to £20. I think they have changed the box art too, or at least it appears that way from the promo content.

God of War keeps slaying, but any notion about UK supposedly being a poor Nintendo market should be quietly put to bed.

Yes, given how extremely price sensitive the UK is, value charts are much, much more important. But we're too grown up on high scores to notice.

You missed the second part of the post - I it's not about dominating but about doing better compared to other systems during other periods in the year. 3DS games had a difficult time charting most of the year because the AAA season starts falls and continues until Q1 - and spring/summer was the time were you would see games like New Leaf or Tomdachi Collection do their thing in the charts.

Of course 3DS didn't dominate the overall market nor is the Switch - thought this was obvious and no one would be triggered by this observation lol.

Splatoon legs are impressive, I remember there was worry about it last year when it was lower than Rabbids but it has been in top 30 almost every week so far this year

Disregarding the fact that you even brought up the "Nintendo dominatiom" looking at the chart I can't figure out which Nintendo mushroom you must have eaten as switch is not at all doing better than other system. Maybe you could say "positively OK" if you wanted to be nice about its performance.

GT Sport back in top 40 at #30.

I know it's not big numbers. But still, it was released last October and keeps rumbling along. Many big games from last, and early this year, departed the charts. I wonder if will hover around top 40 for remainder of gen?

Eh, given his explaination I don't really get your issue. I also dunno what hardware sales look like but the Switch trio of Odyssey, Kart and Zelda have been holding steady for months. That implies to me that the hardware is probably holding steady as well.

The raw number would be nice to know but from the info we have the Switch has been trucking along fine this year

Trucking along fine is not the same as domination or doing better than the competition during this part of the year.

His comparison to the 3DS is true though, I guess, as that also never came close to competing or doing better than the competition during the quiet months.

Still kinda amazing how Splatoon 2 is now constantly in high 10s/low 20s when last year it wasn't even charting.

I said relatively... 3-4 games in the Top 10 isn't tye norm with Nintendo systems in the UK. During summer periods 3DS was able to achieve this even though games had a difficult toke even charting the rest of the year.

Switch is following the same footsteps which is why we see games like Splatoon 2 tag along and likely stay present until the big fall releases start taking over again.

He qualified the statement with context. If you're gonna get hung up on that then meh.

Well yeah. As said 3DS was never real competition. That said most of the big Switch games have hung around the charts at good positions even in the holiday season so the performance software wise has been solid imo.

Relatively the Switch's market presence in the UK is soft compared to other regions though.
