Week 4, 2018 - All Formats (Units)

It's been exactly a year since Capcom scored a No1 on the All Formats Entertainment Software Chart (Resident Evil 7: Biohazard) and the publisher does it again, with the first simultaneous worldwide release for a Monster Hunter title – 'Monster Hunter: World' for PS4/Xbox One debuts at No1 with far higher week 1 sales in the UK than any other Monster Hunter release. The series dates back to 2005's 'Monster Hunter' for PS2 and the title that charted highest until now was 2016's 3DS 'Monster Hunter Generations' which debuted at No3 in week 28, 2016.

It's not just Capcom that can celebrate this week, as Bandai Namco's long-running 'Dragon Ball' franchise also makes a return to the charts and also sets a new record in terms of chart position, debuting at No2 with 'Dragon Ball Fighterz' for PS4/Xbox One – 2015's 'Dragon Ball Xenoverse' sold around the same units on PS4/Xbox One and previously held the best chart debut at No3 back in week 9, 2015.

Outside of a new Top 2 it's the same 3 titles below with Activision Blizzard's 'Call of Duty: WWII' at No3, EA's 'FIFA18' at No4 and Rockstar/Take 2's 'GTA V' at No5. Other new releases this week include Sony's PS4 VR-required 'The Inpatient' debuting at No10 and Nintendo's 3DS box digital release of 'Pokemon Crystal Version' at No12.

it would be interesting to see the split for monster hunter between PS4 and XB1. do we have that figure yet?

Fantastic debut for MHW. Can't wait to see the split between PS4 and xbox version.

Also, GTS and Crash rising in the charts again meanwhile FM7 is out of top 40.

Great to see JPN games on Top - World and FighterZ deserve the success.
Top 5 wouldnt have changed a bit if it werent for those two new releases. For the UK and the Switch thats quite the steady performance for games like Zelda and Mario Kart - impressive.

Good result for MHW and DBFZ I wonder if it will be able to sell as much as Xenoverse LTD

How Pokémon Crystal made it that high up is funny. It's only £10 or so but it's also just a box, I wouldn't have thought there was much of a market for that but I with this and PUBG I was mistaken clearly.

GTS will have decent long tale sales if they keep adding content at the rate they are at the moment.

It's the last one standing in the charts while the competitors that released last year have crashed out.

PlayStation VR titles seem to do reasonably well here in the UK; Farpoint, Skyrim VR and now The Inpatient.

Waiting for the software split for both Monster Hunter: World and Dragon Ball FighterZ!

Goodbye Forza Motorsport 7, whilst Gran Turismo Sport continues to bomb and flop as it does every single week.

I'll be interested to see just how much higher MHW debuted to compared to past titles. And the platform splits.

Good result regardless.

It's been great to see MonHun go from truly niche to the mainstream and now #1. When the Wii game was released most reviewers were baffled and didn't know the series from its PS2 days. It blossomed on the 3DS, made people aware of it, familiar, and reaches a new apex with the gorgeous World. Now most World reviewers already have a relationship to MOnHun and can appreciate it and understand it and communicate it to the readers in a sensible way. What a difference from what we had to go through ten years ago.

probably a Nostalgia purchase for people

Yeah I'm not surprised that people are willing to buy the earlier Pokemon games in droves (wasn't the VC releases of Red/Blue the fastest selling Nintendo download titles ever IIRC?) but the download code in a box is still a weird one to me. More power to people that buy it but I don't really see the value...

What's weird is how similar MHW is to previous entries. It has lots of little QoL changes, but it's just as "Monster Hunter"as ever.

Not that I'm complaining. I'm thrilled more people are giving the series a chance! Personally, the game owned my weekend with around 20 hours played.

Zelda and Mario Kart still in top 10 while Odyssey drops to top 20. Also odd, Splatoon 2's drop after holding the 20 spot for weeks.

Blimey...

Only just realised that Xbox One doesn't fare very well this week, with just PUGB and Forza Horizon 3 (through bundles as usual) representing the console.

Seems like the Switch and PlayStation 4 are becoming the two consoles of choice as of late!

Those splits are BIG.

72:28 for Monster Hunter: World and 77:23 for Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Those numbers are not quite 'what was the point in releasing it on Xbox One' worthy, like Final Fantasy Type-0 once was, but pretty damn close...

02 (06) UNCHARTED 4: A THIEF'S END (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) ~ 11,600 / 333,100 [+152%]
03 (NE) MONSTER HUNTER GENERATIONS (CAPCOM)
04 (02) OVERWATCH (ACTIVISION BLIZZARD) ~ 8,400 / 150,000 [-8%]

MH4U did better with 16.7k-23.7k.
I guesss that's something.

so we at least know it's above 16k.

If we know how much Xenoverse did on PS4 and X1 that'd help too

The most critically acclaimed and soon to be best selling Monster Hunter in the franchise has arrived. Not everybody has that.

Great result for MHW as expected, hopefully it does similarly in the rest of the world, Crash and GTS still hanging around too.

I'm surprised that MHW beat DBFZ, I don't know anyone here that cares about MH, but I know loads who like DBZ.

Pretty good result for Inpatient considering it's an 18+ VR only game with bad reviews from most sites. I'd still buy it if it had a non VR mode for that Until Dawn lore.

What a hot take. So Xbox only has 2 exclusives in the top 40 while PS4 has a mighty....3. Truly a chasm. By this logic the Switch is bossing the charts considering it has by far the most exclusives in the top 40, but that's not really how this works is it?

Would never have expected DBZ to have a lower Xbox split than MHW. It was announced at the Xbox stage at E3 and seems much more mainstream.
