Capcom's biggest franchise storms the All Formats Chart this week with 'Resident Evil 2', the remake of the 20 year old original, debuting at No1.

The original PS1 'Resident Evil 2' game launched at No1 back in April 1998 and since then the franchise has registered six more different All Formats No1 titles. We may only be 4 weeks in to 2019, but it is the biggest launch of the year so far and Capcom's biggest lauch since 'Resident Evil 7: Biohazard' exactly 2 years ago. Both 'Red Dead Redemption 2' and 'Call of Duty: Black Ops 4' climb one place to No2 and No3 respectively, while last week's No1 'New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe' drops to No4. A price promotion on 'Just Cause 4' helps it back in to the All Formats Top 40 at No22.

Resident Evil 2 Remake has sold 21% more than the original Resident Evil 2 released in 1998.

The franchise debuted in 1996 selling 21,500 units and becoming the fastest selling CD at that time, the record only lasted a few weeks because Formula One surpassed Resident Evil setting a new one week record with 30,000 units.

This week will be interesting as I could see physical sales from retailers being hit by the expected bad weather. If it doesn't have any affect I can see KH3 doing higher numbers than RE2 and also have the highest sales in the franchise.

Kingdom Hearts historical data is so old (the latest main entry was released 13 years ago and portable sells bad) that it is not a good indicative of what can we expect, said this Kingdom Hearts has never performed too great in UK (and Europe) or at least as strong as some could expect seeing how the franchise performs in US.

I expect a notably weaker launch than Resident Evil 2.

It is missing one SKU vs Crash (Switch version was the best-selling one this week).

However, Crash's overall performance in the UK is astounding.

RE7 launched on a Tuesday, RE2 on a Friday, so with less days tracked for RE2 it's not an optimal comparison. Digital has also grown in the last 2 years plus RE2 digital price in UK/EU is cheaper than normal.

not that it's doing bad, both of those trilogies are doing great. it's probably a drop in a bucket compared to how much acti makes with cod but still, very good to see non-nintendo platformers do so well.

We might witness a resurgence of the genre and I am very happy about it. 3D Mario always delivers but more games won't hurt.

same. i'm super excited for non-indie, slightly higher budget 3D platformers from bigger publishers. crash 4 can be amazing if done right.

i hope they stick to ND's formula as much as they can. that's clearly what people want, so while they can explore new world and level themes, they better stick to shorter linear levels, with a great hub.

The fact that Spyro isn't on Switch still confuses me. I'm sure it's a cart space/cost issue, but why are remakes of PS1 Spyro games of all things so damn big? Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario Odyssey fit just fine but Spyro can't? Seems like a pretty big missed opportunity because if they're trying to revive Spyro, surely the Switch would be a part of their plans.

i think it'll be announced in a nintendo direct soon-ish, just like crash was. i doubt cart prices are that much of a hurdle for that, crash was a 5GB game on an 8GB cart, i'm sure they can fit the spyro collection on a 16GB cart, which must be cheaper now than when they published crash.

did the games not fit on a bluray? i thought it was because the game went gold before they were done developing it, so a big chunk of it had to be downloaded as an update. i think once the game gets a switch port, they'll probably publish a new version for ps4/xbo with all three games on the disc (they did a similar thing for crash on ps4 will all the updates/dlc on disc when other versions were released).

i still think they can fit spyro on a 16 GB cart, worst case scenario it can require downloading some parts of the game as an update, like la noire/wolfenstein/etc.

This same time 3 years ago - that is, before switch released - there were 0 Nintendo published titles on the chart.

I wonder how the NSW evergreens perform once the hardware price is able to come down. Going by anecdotes here over the last 2 years, price sounds like the biggest prohibitive factor in Europe (especially UK). Though not say that it isn't performing well.

Battlefield is a much bigger franchise than Mario party, it would typically outsell it multiple times over. Being above SMP doesn't indicate that it did well, yet.

Yeah, in absolute terms you're right. But if it sticks around at this position for the rest of the quarter, I'd assume that it would still have sold a nice amount LTD. Legs will be key.
