Ring Fit performance in UK and JP has the beginnings of performing like a Wii ______ game. It's probably going to have higher unit sales during a few holiday weeks than it did in the opening weeks and then taper off a lot less than core titles once Q1 2020 rolls around.

So next week is Death Stranding, below or above 50k? Recent Sony AAA games all opened above 50k (only Detroit was below but that's on the smaller side of AAA) with Horizon doing like 120k and Spider-Man +190k, reviews are pretty good though probably won't give it a big boost as a +90 score would have, it's also something different than we've seen before but that difference can be intriguing and push sales.

I'll be surprised if it's below 50k. MGSVPP sold ~170k first week, ~120k on PS4.

I think the most recent example of a big 1st party Sony game is Days Gone which did ~70k.

Didn't know MGSV was that massive in the UK but I doubt Death Stranding will be any close to it, I'd like to think it'll do better than Days Gone but I'm not sure yet, WW is a different thing of course.

Same, I'm not expecting those numbers. But tbh when I see stuff like those lines in UK to meet Kojima I wonder if he's actually bigger there than what I imagine.

LM3 was pushed a fair bit by Nintendo. Saw a lot of publicity for it on TV and the like. Good to see it was rewarded, it'll be swiftly beaten by Pokemon soon for fastest selling Switch game of 2019 and it'll be interesting to see how many it does sell.

Also we should keep in mind that LM3 had an extra day of tracking vs other Nintendo games.

Fantastic performance regardless.

A cursory look through the PAL thread for LM release isn't conclusive on its sales numbers. It debuted at 5, and was in the charts for quite some time, so hopefully 3 does likewise albeit 2 was released at the start of 2013 compared to here.

Luigi's Mansion 2 debuted in UK selling around 20.000 units.
The third chapter has at least doubled the sales of previous entry.

Link's Awakening did 37k-41k as I derived it. Very impressive performance, doubling LM2 before digital even.

6M is a foregone conclusion, 10M is the new target!

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but how can you bet on a game's long term performance after one week and extrapolating its performance on one market only? We have no idea how the game's legs will shape.

We'll, it's just betting on it, for fun.

But to your point: one aspect is that Switch games have been doing massively better than 3ds games. That was the presupposition I worked with, and the result from the UK strengthens that position further. It's same line of reasoning I used for estimating 7-10 million for example, although that was also helped by the BOTW effect, of course.

As for legs: it's actually the strong suit of the Switch. My anecdotal experience is that people are quite excited by what they've played, so I don't think they will be unduly short or anything.

This isn't the first LM title nor the first Nintendo published Game on Switch there. There is a lot of historic data avaible that can let you predict in what range a Switch title with a strong launch based on a evergreen IP might fall.

Just compare 3DS software numbers in general to it's Switch counterparts and see what Dark Moon managed to sell on 3DS.

As I outlined above LM2 was in the U.K. charts for quite some time back in 2013. Most Nintendo games that have released this year have also done likewise, look at NSMBUD still charting for example and that's a port that released in January. Plus we're entering the period of time where Nintendo games are going to sell the most on average. It's not really outlandish to extrapolate that LM3 will outperform 2 based on all this.

Luigi. We know it did better than L'sA and L'sA already doubled Dark Moon's launch sales in the UK. Dark Moon sold 6.16m WW and it's very unlikely that 3 won't sell a few million more at this point.
Well the way the quote was worded sounded like it was about Link's Awakening, which is why I found it odd.

I've always thought performance would be something like LA: 6~8 mil, LM3: 8~10 mil though.

Also didn't LM2 do 5.5 mil last time we got official numbers? Or has it been updated again?

The launch timing for LM3 is perfect as well. Switch sales are about to explode this holiday period and it's in prime position to benefit from that.

Even before e3 team 10m was a thing. I would know, I said in May that with Switch's multiplayer and momentum Luigi could join the 10m club and become another A-tier IP for Nintendo. It's just getting more and more likely. I also think Ring Fit Adventure has the potential to do it now, not sure about Link's Awakening, Ocarina and Twilight Princess are already some great and difficult targets to reach but I won't rule it out.
