A new release makes the top spot this week as the popular Kingdom Hearts franchise launches its third title, 'Kingdom Hearts III'.

'Resident Evil 2' had a successful launch last week and we see it drop to the No2 spot this week. The top 5 is made up of popular titles that have held strong positons since their release in 2018, such as 'Red Dead Redemption 2' at No3 and 'FIFA 19' at No4. We see another new title enter the charts this week; 'DreamWorks Dragons: Dawn of New Riders' in at No37.

Three 3D Platformers, RE2 and KH3 in a time where JP pubs were avoiding consoles like the plague and Capcom going full action with all their franchises, Ace Combat being a sales success Nintendo dominating with their core franchises when the Wii seemed like a shift in direction. I'm just glad that currently there is a healthy market for the games that I prefer.

It's true that Nintendo was dominating even more last gen, but I think that poster meant core Nintendo franchises rather than the kinds of titles there. Not taking anything away from them, but I can only see 3 titles there you could call core nintendo games (Mario galaxy, NSMB, and Mario Kart), and even then they are the least core of Nintendo's core franchises.

Here, in terms of Nintendo's flagship core titles, we have:
Mario kart 8
NSMBUDX
Smash bros
Zelda botw
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario party
Pokémon LG
Splatoon 2

Which shows a fairly notable shift where popular Nintendo games on switch are less casual in there focus.

If you took a chart in a week closer to the release of Smash and Pokémon you would have similar results. Also, Layton is a pretty core franchise. Zelda sold incredibly well on DS.

I think KH3 did 66k first week in UK, all platforms combined.
62,700 in Spain is a huge launch!

Some numbers for Spain week 4 then:
01 (NE) PS4 Resident Evil 2 Remake - 33,000
02 (01) PS4 FIFA 19 - 5,200 / 599,200

So that's what like a 95/5% split for KH? My maths are terrible but I think that's right.

Several users on this site are going to be thrilled by that then, if this week's threads on the subject were anything to go by.

Great to see how well the game is selling overall though, it definitely deserves it.

37 (35) NDS Club Penguin: Herbert's Revenge (Disney Interactive Studios)
38 (37) PS3 Tiger Woods Pga Tour 11 (Electronic Arts)
39 (28) NDS Hidden Mysteries: Titanic (Gsp/avanquest)
40 (25) 360 Bioshock 2 (Take 2)
Looking at that chart... it seems like gaming had much more variety back then. Something like Kane & Lynch or Sniper: Ghost Warrior would not chart at the top 10 today.

These days it's just FIFA, GTA, RDR2 and COD on every chart while every linear single player game fails. People are now choosing their Game As A Service of choice and keep playing that, leaving single player games to rot.

This is why this gen is so disappointing...

While I mostly agree with you most of those movie games and low budget kid games from DS and Wii are on mobile now or available as downloadable-only tiltes. It's a shame that third-party linear story focused are not doing too hot these days and single-player only games especially from western studios became riskier than ever. (khm Bethesda). Your claim about Ghost Warrior is not true though. GW4 opened 2nd behind MK8D.
