With the Christmas Chart over and the new year just around the corner, there are no new entries in the All Formats Chart, however entertainment software unit sales rise +29%, with Activision Blizzard's 'Call of Duty: WWII' leading the way yet again at No1 for the 8th successive time (+43%).

The last time this happened was all the way back in 2011 when 505 Games' 'Zumba Fitness' held the No1 spot 10 weeks running. EA hold the next 2 spots with 'Fifa 18' at No2 (+51) and 'Star Wars Battlefront II' at No3 (+26%), while sales for Ubisoft's 'Assassin's Creed' rise (+60%) as it climbs one place to No4. In its second week since launch, Microsoft's 'Playerunknown's Battleground' falls 4 places to No8 (-55%), paving the way for Rockstar/Take 2's 'GTA V' to climb 2 places and make the top 5 (+30%).

I always knew that Crash would do decently in sales when it came to the UK as he was huge back in the day, but I never imagined he would be batting in the big leagues six months after release. Definitely one of the most pleasant surprises of the year.

It's the never ending crow feast.

It's the never ending crow feast.
Crash is one of my favourite video game characters and I've wanted him to succeed knowing that it could lead to more games in the series. You may want to reserve those crow entrees for the doubters who believed he'd never be relevant in 2017.

Crash triggers that nostalgia for a load of people so, picking up a new PS4, it's a solid game choice. Evergreen title.

Is it? I don't even think it's surprising, let alone astonishing.
I had no doubts that Crash would've succeeded (it was getting pretty tiresome to come to every Crash thread prior to release hearing the "It was never good" BS) but to beat one of the biggest Mario games out there in the charts is pretty eye opening.

I think it's also the number 1 PS4 exclusive of the year? At least in the EU I think?

It is indeed the biggest PS4 exclusive of the year in the EU IIRC, and has undoubtedly done very well, I just don't see how it being slightly ahead in this case of a significantly more expensive game that is on a much smaller install base in one territory is surprising.

So with crash selling amazing and the rumours dying off is the xbox one port dead? I never thought was happening esoecially after i saw numerous facebook posts stating its exclusive but was always interesting to see how it turned out.

Call of Duty is back to rivaling FIFA at the top of the chart. Both are near 2m and the only games to sell that much.

I'll have to check the exact number later. But Crash will be over half a million in the UK at retail alone come the end of the year. So it's going to be really high on the annual chart.

I think it's because Mario's a more established character icon that this sort of thing just caught me off guard.

Mario isn't just any other game though. It is one of Nintendo's biggest IP and it came out ~2 months ago.

Chill, Crash.

If it's anything like the US then you can expect around 25% ish.

Eh. It's the UK. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Cool thanks for the reply and info. And yeah I agree with you on the second point too, I am at a complete loss as to the massive surprise at a small disparity between these two games this week. Thread was... weird for a moment there lol.

Cod ~3M with digital by end of the year.
FIFA likely too.
Crash probably at 750K.

Best Cod debut since Black Ops 1 I think, that one did 3.2M.

Everyone knew Crash would be the top PS4 exclusive and would be above Mario Christmas week since before June.
Was suuuper obvious

Oh damn that'll be interesting to see. Thanks for the info, man.

I dunno if a CTR remake will rake in the same numbers but I know such a thing like that is hyped, even more so than the remastered trilogy.

You are asking why it is surprising.

I am giving you a reason why it is surprising.

That isn't really much of an explanation. Were you expecting it to not sell well this holiday just because it's been out for a few months or something? If so then that's on you. I expected it to continue selling very well, as anyone should have having looked at the evidence.

Mario is a pretty new game, super highly acclaimed, with one of the biggest names in gaming.

Crash is a 6 month old remake of 3 PS1 games.

I don't think many would have picked this at the start of the year, or even after Crash launched. That's why the outcome could be seen as surprising (more credit to you if you're not surprised... That just means you can read the market well!)

To be fair, Crash Bandicoot has sold on par with games like Assassin's Creed Origins, Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Destiny 2 at retail in the UK.

That's the bigger news here. Of course those games will have larger digital shares. But Crash has really exceeded expectations in the UK.

Eh. It's the UK. I wouldn't read too much into it. Mario Odyssey is doing really well alongside Zelda and Mario Kart 8.

Sure, I just think it's astonishing that Crash is doing so well so many years later after the original trilogy and the awful sequel/reboots.

There is actually hope that a worthy Crash sequel in the vein of the original trilogy is made now.

6 month old Crash Bandicoot games vs 97 Metacritic 3D Super Mario Odyssey.

I'm a little surprised to say the least.

Not really keeping me up at night though.
