Activision Blizzard's 'Call of Duty: WWII' takes a 9th consecutive No1, equalling the consecutive weeks at No1 for a Call of Duty title (2009's 'Modern Warfare 2' held a total of 9 weeks at No1, all consecutive).

The latest entry into the COD franchise is now just 2 weeks off the total number of No1 weeks recorded for a COD title (2015's 'Black Ops III' had 11 No1's, 7 of which were consecutive).

EA take No's 2 and 3 again with 'FIFA 18' and 'Star Wars Battlefront II'. Ubisoft remain at No4 with 'Assassin's Creed Origins' and Rockstar/Take 2 remain at No5 with 'GTA V'.

I am really happy how AC Origins performs. The year break did wonders and the gameplay changes seems to be accepted by many (yet the game sits at a 8.1 on MC for some reason)
But the good word of mouth really pushed the game after all. After a "slow start"

GTA 5 is eternal
it must be the highest selling game ever in the U.K. Right?

Its a digital focused game really. The retail version is also just some cardbox with a code haha.
But its top paid since release on the MS store.

Dumb question ... what's the "Top paid" category actually mean when compared to "Most Played", because those rankings seem to be different even for paid games like GTA V and COD.

Top paid is just pure sold copies (thats why you see now alot of games wich are on sale at the top) Most played is amount of hours played in that week.

What did the article say? For some reason, I keep getting a 404 error whenever I try to get to the page.

"
New year chart update: Xbox down and PS4 up YoY while market holds against digital shift"

This the paragraph for the header:
One thing we can say is that with Week 52's data in, we can see that physical sales on PS4 were up by 6.6 per cent over the year, while Xbox One's physical sales slumped by 11.1 per cent over the same period - largely due to a very slim lineup of big exclusives on the console.

Other quotes (for those that get the 404 error too):
The market as a whole moved up by 2.1 per cent, though that's within the rate of inflation for consumer prices, so it effectively stayed flat. Though given a prevailing narrative of digital shift that's a remarkable result for the sales of boxed games.

With the shift to digital it's predictable that the current title isn't doing the same numbers as its illustrious predecessors, though that won't bother Activision, who will be picking up those sales online. Something we should be able to track more precisely in the near future thanks to the upcoming combined sales chart.

There's been little other change at the top with Call of Duty followed by FIFA, Battlefront 2, Assassin's Creed Origins and Grand Theft Auto in the current top 5. Unsurprising given a total lack of new releases in the Top 40. Predictably, all those titles showed strong week-on-week growth figures up to the 23rd of December and then around 40% drop offs in the week running up to the new year.

Yeah, not exactly lighting up the charts is it?
As posted above. Its a digital focused of early access game wich happens to have a retail copy. Even that is just a cardbox with a code.
That it even is charting arround the top 10 is pretty good. Its doing really good on the MS store at number 1 since release.

Is the price cut still in effect for GT sport? the results seems great for a game released 2.5 months ago. I guess the name still carries a lot of weight.

This is the first time I've seem AC:O sell more on PS4 than XB1. Is that game no longer bundled on XB1 after the holidays?

Happy to see GT Sport stay up in the charts. I wonder if CoD can make it to 11 straight top spot like Black Ops 3 did.

Pretty weird to see LA Noire so high in All formats (actually up from last week!), but nowhere in the individual chart.

Kinda surprised by CoD. I thought the decision to go with WWII had a whiff of desperation about it, but it looks like the game is doing great. I was certain the series would continue to decline.

GT Sport is back to full price at GAME £50. £30-50 is where it's at between the big outlets.

Also I'm seeing lots of FIFA only bundles or FIFA with Singstar or Fallout or HZD bundles or no game at all. The GT Sport bundles seem a lot less.

Kids get Xmas money and spend it on games immediately. That's what I used to do anyway. Remember getting N64 Smash Bros after xmas week and then playing it as we entered the new millenium. Was far out

So with your logic Nintendo in January should sell more than in December. You don't understand that doesn't make sense?

You don't do money to kids for christmas. You buy them whatever they want, with your money. Around when they are 15/16 , and they are no kids anymore, than maybe they want money for christmas, but at that age a lot of people would like a PS4 or XB1 just like a Switch. It's just not the case there.

Splatoon 2 increased just because I said its sales weren't that good last week.
