There are no new releases within the Top 40 All Formats (Units) this week – Milestone's 'Gravel' debuts just outside at No42 but does make the revenue All Formats Top 40 at No30.

The eagle-eyed chart follower will have noticed it is time to say Happy Birthday to Nintendo's Switch, which debuted one year ago (week 9, 2017 'Zelda Breath of the Wild' debuted at No2). In terms of chart toppers this week, there's not much change from the usual suspects plus some re-entries from 'payday' and assorted promotions. EA's 'FIFA 18' remains at No1 for a third consecutive week and a total of 7 times on the All Formats Top 40. Rockstar/Take 2 remain at No2 with 'GTA V' and Activision remain at No3 with 'Call of Duty WWII'. Nintendo's Switch 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' makes a dash for the top, climbing 4 places to No4 and Capcom's 'Monster Hunter: World' drops 1 place to No5. Microsoft's 'PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds' for Xbox One jumps back in to the Top 10, up 7 places to No8.

Sudden increase in sales, interesting. I think there was a Switch price drop around europe from 330€ to 300€, at least here in Spain that was the case with Amazon and MediaMarkt doing it.

There has been anniversary sales in the UK at game etc so probably why the increase here.

Good Switch week in UK and fantastic in france, people were saying that the lack of new games in the first 2 months would hurt momentum but it seems everything is fine, cautiously optimistic about Kirby.

Kirby won't do much in the UK, it never has done. Not sure how it performs in the rest of Europe but I always get the impression that Japan is its primary market.

As I said in the other thread, 3 weeks in a row now Fifa on Switch has outsold the XB1 version in the UK, but it will struggle next week due to stock issues at several retailers

There was a mario bundle 273. But sold out fast last week I tried to get one but was only available in Birmingham

With the French market apparently slowly becoming bigger than UK it also means something. But three in the UK top ten is no slouch either.

So MK8D was 4th in UK, 1st in France, and 3rd for the month in Germany. What a beast this IP became.

Remember when people said that Nintendo was crazy to think that they could charge full price for MK8D.

btw. The IP always was a big as the systems it was on - the special thing with MK8, SMO and BotW is that they are also considered to be the best or at least among the best of those massive series. Its the perfect storm of having as successful system in addition to the best entries of some of their strongest IPs.

Am I the only one who finds it horribly depressing how old games tend to stick at the top of the charts? Like, do other games sell so badly that their launch sales can't surpass the sales of games that've been out for months?

You have to consider that new hardware is being sold every week - if you get a Switch or PS4 this week you are likely going to purchase the established evergreens like Fifa, CoD or Mario Kart before getting the current flavor of the month.

Especially if you only can purchase 1-2 games or less per months in addition to whatever you get free from PS+ etc. it can take a while until a casual owner/gamer gets to a point where he even wants or is able to purchase a new full priced release. Add in the fact that many games launch with issue nowadays and receive price drops shortly after release....yeah.

Kirby is a million seller in the west, even if it isn't as big as it in japan it should enough to chart well in UK.
