PC Gamers: Which hardware component(s) are you upgrading to get ready for next gen?

Just finished upgrading my entire PC. Originally for Cyberpunk but also for Red Dead PC, Doom Eternal, and Modern Warfare. And HL Alyx when my Index Ships )

went from a

i7 3770k
SLI GTX 970
Intel SSD
Hooked up to Samsung 65" 4K
And HTC Vive

to a
Ryzen 3950x
EVGA 2080ti FTW3 Ultra
M.2 SSD
Hooked up to an Asus PG35VQ Gsync/HDR/200hz

and Index on the way hopefully soon.


should carry me a decent way into next gen, only foreseeable upgrade needed will be a GPU at some point down the line. But likely pretty far into next gen.

That said I'll also be grabbing a Series X and PS5. So the is not to replace those but to augment them.

I haven't upgraded in ages because I stubbornly refuse to not do a HEDT to use for both work and gaming, but I can't afford building with TRX40 and it is too late for X299.

I want a whole new machine so my current one continues to be there just in case, but there are parts that I'm tempted to reuse, like 64GB of DDR4 and a 1200W 80+ Platinum PSU.

I need to buy an entire PC and I planned to buy it this year, but with current economy I may postpone to 2021.

Cpu, I have a ryzen 5 3600 but should upgrade since consoles are getting real CPUs now.

Gpu probably next year. I have a 2070 super right now but might use my warranty and spend a tiny bit more for a 2080 super. Then wait until the end of next year to see if I'll actually need to upgrade

I have an i5 7500 & 1060 6GB, and was torn between upgrade and new build.

My Motherboard only goes upto 7th gen intel and 2113 DDR4 ram. So even if I put in an i7 7700k and new GPU i'd still be left with slow ass ram. So maybe it will be best to build completely new.

My CPU (7700K). It's not awful, but it's already limiting me in quite a few games. My 2080TI will be fine for a while yet.

I tend to wait a long time in between CPU upgrades since I need to get a whole new motherboard and rip apart my entire system so.... yeah. Not looking forward to that.

The plan, in general, is to have an entirely new PC more or less by this Autumn.

I have gaming laptop (MSI GT76) which has an i7-9700K and an RTX 2080, and these are the desktop parts giving the full 95W to the CPU and 200W to the GPU.

The built in display is only 1080p, so I imagine I will be good for a really long time, with the consoles focusing so heavily on 4K.

I can always sell when Ampere drops but I'm not so sure that will be necessary.
