Not to start an Epic hate train or anything like that but seeing that they implement the things that ApeLegs brought to the genre: Is anything about Fortnite BR an idea they've come up by themselves? I like what I read about events they're doing and they sound kinda cool. But everything I know about Fortnite is things from other games thrown together. I mean, it is clearly working for them and it's not necessarily a bad thing but for it being one of the biggest games it feels like it brings nothing original to the table.

Maybe it is different from an outsider perspective who only played a few matches.

It brings nothing?

The building?

And they brought it to BR. It's a very unique mechanic in the BR genre.

I see the point and am willing to accept it.

To move the goal post a little bit I'd say that the building mechanic is anything that brought BR forward in any way and I would doubt that they designed the BR mode with building in mind but rather slapped it on because it was in Fortnite: Save the world.

Bloodlines is the retro game of the month. I'm overdue for another playthrough anyway. I wonder if I can convince myself to play something that isn't Malkavian this time.

I think this is the case. Remember, Fortnite was originally going to be a survival game.

Did Square really not do a discount on Nier when the GOTY version launched?

It looks like they did a base price cut, but didn't time it with a sale. I know there wasn't a patch to fix the issues, but still should have done something.

This video is great by the way

Can I sub to 1 month of Humble Montly, get Mutant road and the cancel?
You can sub but you don't really need to cancel right away. Download what games you want to play from the Humble Trove first since they are included in the subscription.
Pro-tip: they'll usually try to offer you a 3$ discount if you try to cancel. Do it and accept the discount, and you'll still be able to choose between cancelling or keeping when the next early unlocks are shown.

Well I just bought New Dawn and I havent played Farcry 4 or 5. Here it goes.

Dump all the equipment you don't need into shrine offerings.
It'll reward you more amrita(souls) and healing items.

Generally speaking, NIOH is similar to souls in the sense that there is a big swath of mechanics, 80% of which you can just ignore if you feel so inclined, like stances for example.

Obviously, a good player will switch stances on the fly, depending on what enemy he is facing and what they are doing, but you can play through the entire game without ever utilizing the system much.

If you got used to Dark Souls, you'll manage to get into NIOH, i'm sure.

Yeah, I'm excited to get to know it better. Right now I have trouble understanding when to dodge and when to guard/block. Dodging doesn't seem to be very effective while I can just block 100% of an attack with my sword, but of course, the problem is I'll lose a lot of Ki that way. I'm currently at Hino-Enma (third boss) and I've only given it one go so far but I have no clue how to deal with her. I'm doing minimal damage while I don't seem to be able to dodge her most fatal attack (a form of blow attack), and blocking it just makes me stagger instantly.

Wrapped up FC5. Took me about 27hrs. FC4 took me 29 according to Steam so they were about same length.

Overall this was kind of a mixed bag. On the one hand the gameplay loop was a lot of fun. So was the scenery/Montana and AI buddies. On the other hand the story telling was just bland and boring. Almost none of it made sense by the end. And yikes that ending. I was expecting a bit more. FC4 had a much better story overall but FC5 was just more fun to play. Also the M/KB controls are so much better than 4 its not even funny. Its nice to see Ubi making that transition into being a better PC dev. 2014 feels like a long damn time ago with them.

Eventually tho even with the great gameplay there was a lot of just getting in a helicopter and filling up that meter by all means towards the end. I'm satisfied with it all despite there clearly being a lot more stuff to do. I got all the buddies and did all the story missions. Along with a bunch of side missions too. Love the dog and Hunk. Also the two sniper girls were great. Didn't use much of anyone else except the plane guy for air support a few times. The weapons were a lot of fun. Used mostly the AK and MP40. The one thing I'll give Ubi here is they toned down the grenade launcher. In FC4 it was basically broken and op as hell. Here it was just right. Good for taking down helis and the occasional jeep.

As far as the characters go I liked John and Faith. A lot of neat bits here and there. The last fight against Faith was straight up Dark Souls heh. Pretty cool and I'm glad Ubi went with some crazy stuff like the tiger thing in FC4. As far as the rest of the characters..I hated Joseph and Jacob. Even tho Jacob had probably the best zone in terms of exploring and having fun. His whole story stuff was bad. Probably the low point because of all the captures since they really did kill the momentum of that zone quite a bit. And Joseph was just dumb. About the most weaksauce villain that I can remember in some time. Also all the bunker missions felt mediocre and kinda rushed. They could have done a better job with the territories.

So yea I can't really give it anymore than an 8 out of 10. Good game but a victim of Ubisofts pointless PG13 storytelling in a mature game. A lot of potential but falls flat in the end. Still would recommend it to anyone looking for a podcast game and anyone who loved the previous games in the series. Easily worth the 15$ during this recent steam sale. It was a good time.

Im playing through FC5 right now, and while the gunplay and the world design is great I never seen a game so determined to get in its own way. Here I am having a blast shooting bisons with grenade launcher , and the game decided i filled soem arbitrary progression bar and its time to drag me, kicking and screaming, to the next story mission .
And they all begin the same, with the cult leader or one of his lieutenants stick their face in the camera and drone on and on and on .
None of them is as charismatic as Vass From 3 or as entertaining as Pagan Min from 4 . Then if your lucky you get a minute of under duress shooting, and then you lose conscious again only to be awaken by an ally NPC shining a light in your eye . It happens over and over again and its too damn bad, cause the moment to moment gameplay is great.

They've pretty much squandered it. They're not really exploring the mechanics that make their games unique, they're more content to just include features once they become popular in rival games.

Another Ubisoft comment.

I finished AC: Odysseys main story today (got the season pass yet to play) and I think the story is the weakest part of the whole game. Every setpiece feels kind of underwhelming, out of a mediocre game. The modern day story is barely there and the game doesnt feel like it has a climax, something "epic" happening during the end (and I got the best ending apparently and 100% everything else). The main missions at the end really dont feel like main missions but sidequests and are all "please go there, do some stuff you dont even need to do and come back
The whole stuff the Sparta kings will let you do, Olympia, kill 3 heroes etc).

Even the quests for the "true ending"
the Atlantis one
feel really weak. Like the whole storyline about
Medusa feels like it was written in 10 minutes. You dont even get used to the characters that tells you her gf went there. Its over as soon as you reached the cave.

In other ACs the endings felt far bigger. In AC4
you had a chase to your boat while the cave is exploding after you got the eden thing
.
In AC Rogue you
unveil the secret about Abstergo in that modern day storyline and encounter that IIRC the guy who lived for centuries escaped
Even in Origin
You are killing Caesar and you get to know that Layla is having a big role in the next apocalypse.

In Odyssey its just
You are reunited with your family and some Isu person is against the other Isu person. The end.

FC5 is a game where the systems just don't play well together. You've got this world that feels prime for exploration, but the game pops up randomly generated encounters every few feet because it feels like if you're not shooting something for 5 minutes you must be bored. You "take over" a region way too easily too. It's a game that needed to slow the fuck down and it would be a lot better.

Also the fall damage is weirdly punishing in that game.

Man, Foundations is still quite rough. The UI is terrible, but I like the artstyle they've got going. But the performance.. aiii. Early access and all, so no big problem. But I started with a locked 60 fps, but after a couple of hours playing:

Really think they are onto something. The gridless building (compared to games like Banished) is a really cool concept. It will just take a lot of work.

Ape Out is locked at 1080P which is absurd in this day and age and a shame given the art style would shine at higher resolutions. Still a lot of fun with headphones.

Just upgraded my vid card to a rx 580. I get to choose two games, so I am going with Resident Evil 2 and DMC 5. I also have about 12 other major games I have in my back log so I think I am good for the next 6 months :)

The Humbo Original for March is 20 Minute Metropolis a city builder by Dejobaan Games. You know, the guys behind AAaaAAAaa, Drop that Beat Like an Ugly Baby and Drunken Robot Pornography?

You have finite resources and have to build point generating parks to gain a high score. You only have 20 minutes.

Wish Sega would detail their Yakuza team release schedule without totally leaving us in the dark for 6 months between releases. Are we getting Fist of the North Star, Kiwami 2/345 ports before Yakuza 6, etc. Just tell us!

We have a whole bunch of catch up

Yeah, I've only put an hour or so in to it so far but it doesn't appear that hard. Mostly screen based, picking options from menus. The Repair, Power, Emcon and combat look like they might be harder depending on how far you want to get into it.

I finally replaced my semi functional Duck 1087 mechanical keyboard. I'm including the image because its a window into a time when mechanical keyboards where less flashy and more functional, also its a eulogy to the best keyboard I've ever owned.

large_43_DK1087_ALPS_800_8.jpg

I loved the thing, but two keys didn't work and the USB connector was half fried. Constant disconnects, was usable for maybe 10-30 seconds at a time. I used a spare cheapo KB for a while but actually went back to the ducky because I've become so used to the feel of a mechanical board after eight years. Yes, I loved the feel of the mechanical keys that much.

Best buy has a special on the Logitech K840. Its $49.99 right now. Its a simple metal grey (actual aluminum) with black keys, no RGB and no gamer silliness, with the exact same "Romer G" mechanical key-switches as all of their gaming boards. It feels really good to type on and is very solid. If you haven't gone mechanical this is the keyboard to do so on with no silly RGB or "Gamer" bullshit attached. Also, if you haven't trained a bit as a touch typist, the best way to really get into it is with a mechanical keyboard and everyone who has a mechanical keyboard owes it to themselves to do a bit of training.
