The stock brake in the V3's doesn't have very good feel IMO which is where the elastometers in the CSL feel better.Eh why not?
Based on a few reviews I've seen elsewhere it doesn't seem as obvious as it might look at first glance. Seems to come down to personal preference on the feeling of the brake pedal.
How strong are the vibration motors for the pedals? Can you feel them if you sim race with shoes on?
Progress has been slower than I'd hoped as I've been dipping in and out. You could literally build the whole thing in one long day (or two sensible ones) if you had all the kit and tools to hand and a good understanding of what's involved. You could do it all for £1,200 too I reckon by sourcing parts from the UK/China. I haven't totted up my bills yet, but I saved on delivery and import duty on the motors and controllers by buying from a mate who accidently over-ordered a whole extra set.Mascot did you do the SFX100 build in the end?
I've almost finished up on the HT gear now, just got this puppy installed:
That was 100kg of subwoofer I really regretted thinking I could lift on my own!
Anyway now it's time to look at the last pieces of sim racing gear and actually use it; picked up some ascher racing magnetic shifters to replace the stock spring ones on the accuforce and now just thinking about motion options.
I had my eyes on the NLR V3 but the SFX100 has me curious, how much was it and where did you get all the bits from in the UK?
Thanks for the info, did you get your stuff from those links?Progress has been slower than I'd hoped as I've been dipping in and out. I only got around to assembling the actuators last weekend and will finish the electronics this weekend I guess.
This is the thread to peruse if you want a closer look. A lot of people are offering the benefit of their experience and local buying tips. https://www.racedepartment.com/threads/the-simfeedback-ac-diy-motion-simulator-thread.159524/
Some items are on long lead times (especially if you buy from China, although Germany can be slow) but things like ball screws can be sourced from the UK, and cheap tee-nuts from eBay (although mine were never delivered, the shits). Looking forward to finally getting it all up and running!
My Rift is on its way back to Oculus for a replacement right now (classic RHS audio issue) so it's a good time to knuckle down and finish it.

Anyone who's ever braved a rainy Sunday to watch a 750MC meeting will tell you that's where the really good stuff happens, though, and Dirt Rally 2.0 is part of the new Codemasters - the one that brought us the equally brilliant F1 2018 - that indulges its passion for motorsport. It's deep, involving and crafted with love, and you can't help but love it back in turn. The original Dirt Rally made a convincing claim at being the best off-road sim to date. I think its sequel can lay claim to being one of the best driving experiences available right now.
It shouldn't ever be offered commercially as that would be against stated terms of it being a community DIY project, but I'm not sure how enforceable that would be. The software is free but you need to make a donation to unlock all the customisation features. The SFX-100 stuff has piqued my interest but I wonder if it will ever be offered like the OSW kits are now. Me being in the US, it may be more difficult to acquire most of the stuff but I also haven't spent the time to look through that huge thread. Any idea what it would generally cost in dollars?
I got the 100x100 Kinetik extrusion from Germany as that seems to be the only source (cheaper alternatives from China would require amendment to the 3DP parts) and the ball screws, hollow shafts, couplers and fixed bearings from the Chinese supplier recommended in the first post, although they could be sourced from the UK (it's all standard stuff).
Thanks, much appreciated. I'm not too worried about saving a few quid given the time I'd have to waste looking for the right thing and potentially not getting it. The plan is to buy it all in one hit and not have to think about it, £1500 sounds very reasonable especially as I was thinking £2300 for the NLR.I got the 100x100 Kintik extrusion from Germany as that seems to be the only source (cheaper alternatives from China would require amendment to the 3DP parts) and the ball screws, hollow shafts, couplers and fixed bearings from the Chinese supplier recommended in the first post, although they could be sourced from the UK (it's all standard stuff).
Someone sent me links to other stuff, although savings can be made by shopping around for eBay equivalents of some of the Amazon stuff (eg the O-rings, got a big selection box from eBay for £7, i think Amazon wanted £16 for what looks identical):

Both the Tatuus cars and Formula E Gen 2 are almost ready to release. For the latter we are currently implementing a more advanced brake-by-wire system that matches the system on the real car, leading to more accurate regeneration and rear brake temperatures. We are also testing the last big planned update of Zandvoort, where we focus on optimizations as well as add the latest buildings on and around the track.
After last month's overwhelmingly negative reaction from the S397 forum, I'm surprised this month's roadmap didn't have a 'don't worry guys, we still care about fixing the core game' line in there somewhere.rFactor 2 February roadmap update: https://www.studio-397.com/2019/02/roadmap-update-february-2019/
some interesting things, others not so much:
- Virginia International Raceway is the other track in Reiza rF2 bundle
- Competition system will allow a variety of scoring results and is being integrated into the UI (only mention of the UI in the roadmap)
- More Nuburgring news (yawn... this is getting "old" and will probably be on all roadmaps for a year :P)
- new graphics updates focusing on the interior of the vehicles
edit: I forgot this...
Having tested some of the Reiza DLC pack, it's worth the wait.Imola 1972 and 2018 added to the Reiza rF2 pack. Coming in March.

Check post 5420 for a good video. I don't necessarily agree with his conclusions but it'll give you an overview of what's available and how they are to use.Can anyone recommend a game for a complete novice? I just got a Logitech G29 and I'm looking to get into the world of sim racing.
It's gonna be a content heavy year for rF2. Everything announced so far seems to be paid content though... it'll be an expensive year for me!Having tested some of the Reiza DLC pack, it's worth the wait.
I say get S397 work on the UI, graphics and sound & Reiza do everything else!
I am really glad to have backed Reiza in the AMS DLC + "AMS" 20xx + DLC... it was a little steep for me at the time but it paid off already.Having tested some of the Reiza DLC pack, it's worth the wait.

nice! congrats!
Is that an EJECT! button?
Assetto Corsa would be my vote. It works well with a G29, it's fairly easy to install, it has a calibration wizard, the UI makes a reasonable amount of sense (but isn't without its quirks). Can anyone recommend a game for a complete novice? nice! congrats!
I wanted to go aluminum profile but here in Brazil it was going to be hard to find some important parts and probably cost a lot more than Reiza partner Extreme Racing's P1 model (https://loja.cockpitextremeracing.com.br/produto/cockpit-p1/33209). This is around U$ 670. Any motion platform would make it waaaay to expensive for me, too.
Question... how loud is it in action?
It's quieter than my NLMv3 was, which was a pleasant surprise as that was already pretty quiet.
Yeah, I was going to use both together, at least initially, but decided to demount the NLMv3 before fitting the SFX100. I didn't want to know how awesome the combo was because I had plans to sell the v3, so would rather not know. The only thing i'm currently missing from the v3 is the stronger surge effect under acceleration and braking, but I haven't tried tuning anything yet.Looks amazing, well done mate!!
Did you ditch the NLMv3 then? Way back when, I saw people talking about having both, but haven't kept up with developments (which is probably a good thing for my wallet).
Only £1400 very nice! I get paid in 2 weeks so I'll be blowing my load all over the parts for this.Yeah, I was going to use both together, at least initially, but decided to demount the NLMv3 before fitting the SFX100. The SFX100 is awesome, I'd recommend it to anyone with a suitable cockpit who is looking to add DBox-style motion. I totted up the bills this morning and it was a sniff under £1,400, which is 10% of the price of an equivalent DBox. And this one has 100mm of travel, which is a lot more than Dbox.

Hell yeah it will be if S397 keep up the paid-for content. I wonder how much the Green Hell will cost. That said, the Reiza rF2 DLC should be free to a lot of the backers. It's gonna be a content heavy year for rF2. Same. I opted for the new sim or whatever level 5 granted back then. Happy to get the rF2 DLC for free if it pans out that way.I am really glad to have backed Reiza in the AMS DLC + "AMS" 20xx + DLC... it was a little steep for me at the time but it paid off already.
I've got an issue with a high-pitched electronic whistle from one of the servo drivers so make sure you test everything when it arrives. I've got a replacement driver arriving tomorrow so hopefully that should resolve it. It's pretty rare apparently.Only £1400 very nice! I get paid in 2 weeks so I'll be blowing my load all over the parts for this.
Thanks mate. I'd recommend it for anyone looking to add motion to their rigs - there can't be a more cost-effective solution out there that works so well. I've wanted Dbox ever since seeing Barry's review and this is a pretty damn good facsimile of it for a fraction of the price. It's been good fun building it too (with a few minor frustrations, as to be expected). It looks daunting at first but it's really easy with the right tools and equipment. It should be bomb-proof too - you're effective suspended on four OSW servos.Mascot Just want to congratulate you on that sweet looking rig of yours. Enjoy!
