More Atlus games could be coming, too, but the ball is currently in Atlus's court. Catherine Classic saw the developer's surreal puzzle game come to PC for the first time in January, and it's performed well. Clark hopes it's just the first step.

"Everyone's really pleased with it; we're pleased with it, it's performed well and the audience is happy," he says. "I think for us it was always step one. Let's launch Catherine, which then gives the IP owners and business owners at Atlus—who are in their first foray into the PC market—the ability to evaluate the success and how that can fit in for their future road map. I'm pleased to say they now have that information, so they're able to evaluate it. For us it was a positive experience, and hopefully they'll share that and consider it in their own road map."

Knowing Atlus it will probably take forever before they allow another port for PC.

Bought Catherine day 1 even though I'm not interested in it just to help slightly increase the chances of one day having Persona 5 on PC. I will do whatever it takes.

I know Steamspy isn't reliable anymore, but if their Catherine numbers (20,000-50,000) are even remotely accurate I wouldn't say it has "performed well".

Persona 5 Classic announced for PC.
I think you mean Persona 3.

Also lol at the idea that the release of a 8 years old game, far from their most successfull licence ( or even genre ), which had a remaster-like release already announced on console; help in any way, shape or form evaluate what Atlus should do with the PC platform.

They only needed to look at pretty much every other jrpg multiplatform released over the past few years, and how no publisher ever decided that the PC platform wasn't actually worth it after tipping their toes in it, to "evaluate" the market.

If we were talking about a normal Developer, sure but we are talking about Atlus here. Nothing they do makes sense from a business perspective.

Weren't they happy that the original sold like 150-200k between ps3 and X360? But i don't remember very well.
50k could be good for them, maybe.

When SEGA purchased ATLUS, one of the things I was really hoping they helped with was getting their top brass out of their 20th century mindset. As much as I love a lot of their games, ATLUS has some strange priorities.

It's a nice thought, but I doubt Atlus is going to use the sales of the original Catherine on PC to decide wheather or not to start actually putting development effort into the platform.

That's 50K units worth a sales that they got at what I presume was minimal effort. But, as someone else pointed out, Atlus doesn't appear to be solely driven by money, and it also looks like Sega will not force their hand.

the iOS ports of the 16 bit games making it to PC are the best bets here.

Everything else? Nah.

How the fuck do you own a company and have no say in it?
There's no one definite way to operate an acquired company. Some companies merge their purchases into their existing structure, others let their acquisitions do as they see fit and only step in when they screw up. Sega chose the latter with Atlus, clearly.

I already said this in the Yakuza thread, but if Atlus' history is any indication, they're just going to create a new franchise that'll be PC exclusive and not get console ports.

Hahaha PC Gamer doesn't know Atlus very well.

Be happy that Catherine is there because that may be the only game you'll see from them.

I'm saying this a Switch user who is still waiting a game from them since launch.

Yeah that's it we will never get another port, Atlus management still thinks PC's are only for work and maybe porn games.

SEGA gives all of their development teams almost complete autonomy, it's almost unheard of in the Publishing world but it works and it's why so many developers talk about how happy they are to have joined SEGA... In almost every case it's a good thing. In Atlus' case... Pros and cons...

We'll see SMT5 news in 2021 probably and it'll most likely come out at the end of the Switch's life. ATLUS loves being late to systems, sometimes to point of having to put a game on a newer system because they took so long (see Persona 5)

Unless Sega Europe ports it themselves, i don't see that happening since they didn't even bother to update those games to 64 bit when Apple was getting rid of 32 bit apps.
I still feel like this is a smaller hurdle to clear than 'Atlus decides to allow SMT/Persona games since the PS2 era on more than one platform at a time'

2021 is definitely not the end of Switch's life though. I think we'll see other games for sure (at least one Etrian Odyssey and of course P5S although Omega Force is making it).

I'm not sure how much is love for being late, to me it just seems poor planning. They started full scale development for SMTV only 8-10 months after the initial reveal. This is even worse than Square Enix.

I just don't understand why a good portion of Japanese companies have to be dragged into the future kicking and screaming. Are clueless 90 year old men really the major decision makers or is that a stereotype?

For god's sake, Atlus. Porting your legacy titles that are stuck on 5th to 7th gen gaming systems to the PC at least is easy money.

Persona 3 and 4 on a not dead platform would be fantastic, but knowing Atlus we'd get an obsolete version of Persona 5.
