Because of course being progressive means having sadistic fascist impulses. This progressive champion. All us regressives should tremble in their wake.

I believe what you'll find so fascinating about the progressive movement is that there are so many disparate groups - ethnic minorities, sexual minorities, socialists, communists, environmentalists, etc - but what binds us together is that we all have onanistic torture dreams about criminals

really, it just comes with the territory

My man, if you take joy in torturing people, you are not a progressive. Do you even know what a progressive is? You need to figure out what your actually political idealogy is, because being a torture-lover certainly doesn't make you a progressive.

It's sad (but expected) to see the "liberal" media declaring this a victory for Pelosi and shit talking the freshman four. It's really true that American liberalism is center white at best.

According to you guys i'm not progressive enough because I find the death penalty far worse than any other alternative and would rather a truly monsterous criminal be punished by solitary.

The peaceful tolerance of the left is why I came to it. And now it's become whatever it is now.
I can't label myself a leftist or a progressive anymore... huh... maybe this is what pelosi was talking about?

I really, really, really hope you guys manage to beat trump.
Enjoy your thread I guess.

The majority of progressives are against death penalty and torture. What are you going on about?

I'm sorry Mr. Sociopath that we are too confrontational for you, a person who gets off on torture. I suppose we should tone it down to accommodate your sensibilities.

Enough. If we're done talking about Pelosi vs. the caucus, and just want to use the thread to decide whether other Era members are progressive or not, we can close this thread. Let's move on, thank you.

As for the House Democrats, the infighting is going to continue. People were voted in in 2017 and 2018 to make a difference, and they clearly are starting to.

Still, there are divisions and conflicts among progressives, some discriminatory. Forming a coalition that will successfully defeat Trump will not be easy to do. Even less easy, getting a bunch of different caucuses to decide to show up to vote in sufficient numbers to vote for whomever-the-nominee-is.

People clearly are not as united on even the "kitchen table" issues, that Pelosi was somehow counting on. Well, it's gonna take the candidates' focus off of Trump, for sure, but their involvement may help resolve the situation sooner and better than what is currently happening.

Dude, are you for real? What part of mental torture that turns you insane sounds like peaceful tolerance to you?

No, because death is actually a pretty light punishment
Being locked in a cage for all of your life and slowly losing your mind as you relive the experience every day?
that's a lot more satisfying.

Edit: Sorry, did not see the mod reply, will stop.

One can only hope. I still struggle to imagine the need for inspiration when the right course of action couldn't be more clear.

I was under the impression that 2018 was such a huge win for us because people are really sick of Trump and want a major change. That its size indicated it wasn't a simple protest vote.

Endorsing the status quo and trying to hush the young, progressive members doesn't seem like the path to carry that momentum forward to me. 2020 has to be more than "we're not Trump," because Republicans will vote in droves.

Nevermind all of the other.....problematic stuff people dug up, but what I find most telling is of your perception of progressivism, in that its followers are supposed to be weak-willed backbone lacking doormats who only seek change as a means of reactionary Twitter soliloquisms rather than being proactive upenders of oppressive policies and institutions.

You were never a progressive because the ideal of justice was far better than the reality of fighting for it.

Pelosi's main interest in the House- due to gerrymandering, she needs those centrist Dems to keep it. AOC has bigger goals because she has bigger dreams. AOC is right, but I understand where Pelosi is coming from. Best way to help AOC win is to have a Presidential candidate more in line with her thinking, and to show Pelosi that her centrism is not popular.

This is why the primary is so important next year, and it's important for lower races as well.

In 2018, we had a winnable seat here, but we elected some loser centrist in the primary, instead of a more interesting progressive. The loser centrist underperformed the blue wave by about 10 points and lost the race against a mediocre Republican.

Yeah, its not like the more leftist democrats got there with the DNC's help. It is not like they have anything to gain from the DNC's favor. I hope that they ignore her. They can either be the Freedom Caucus or the Log Cabin Republicans. One has influence and power, the other is just a checkbox to placate those who want to claim to have a large tent of ideas. Their constituents are happy with the noise that they are making and Pelosi already stated how little she valued Social Media opinion so I really hope that Leftists in government get louder.

It really feels like The Democratic Party has decided that snatching away republican donors is the way to win this thing. When you hear Pelosi's concerns, it does not even sound like she is worried about moderate voters, anymore.

The only difference between traditional Dems and Repubs is abortion rights and the tax brackets they push for or against.

It's not like the Tea Party taking over the GoP. The GoP were already subtle racists. They used the Southern Strategy and modded it to include Islamaphobia and Central/South American Xenophobia to take over the GoP.

On the other end, the Dems are not Socialists. They aren't even Progressives by and large. AoC and her squad are outsiders and largely incompatible with the Dem establishment. Pelosi, Biden and Feinstein are the standard Dems and the platform leaders.

Sadly, I believe the election of the new House Dems like AoC is more about anti-Trump sentiment than an actual progressive trend. The Blue Wave in general was an admonishment of Trump, not an actual movement.

Fitting that Clay complained about the race card, because now leaders of the CBC have gone on record basically calling the JD racists intentionally targeting black incumbents.

lol The Hill absolutely loves gossip

They're on the record in the article. Direct quotes from Meeks and others.

"It just seems strange that the social Democrats seem to be targeting members of the Congressional Black Caucus, individuals who have stood and fought to make sure that African Americans are included and part of this process," Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), a senior CBC member, told The Hill.

CBC is on some bum shit and Lacy Clay should have lost.

Wasn't going to, but should have.

But the JD/CBC fight was coming. It always was. JD needs to keep bringing in black candidates, and CBC needs to be hospitable to the ones they bring in, like Pressley.

Either that, or primary season will get ugly as hell. Uglier than a young .org like Justice Dems wants.

Apparently AOC, a very visible minority and proud Latina, only mentions she's Latina when convenient. Riiiiiiiiight. And Lacy Clay's Challenger was a Black woman, Cori Bush.

I need to read up on the CBC before I start trash talking but the fact that a group of some Black folks only see freedom within the parameters laid down by the Democratic Party, Inc, is concerning. These old ninjas were around for The Black Panthers, peak MLK, Stokely Carmichael etc... Bernie and JD seem more in line with those type of politics than whatever the Democratic Party is right now.

Pelosi, we will stop treating you like scumbags when you actually defend our Constitution and our Republic by initiating impeachment proceedings on Trump the traitor.

It is and always will be about power within the establishment and those members of the CBC are part of it now.

I'm glad people are waking up that Dems only likes using PoC when it's convenient for them but gets thrown out of the bus when any critique is had. Don't bite the hand that feeds amirite?

Not sure why moderates/centrists are surprised by this. How else are we going to steer values of the party closer to the left without being able to criticize and have self-reflection?
