I am not American.

Good luck America.

Edit: Apologies for not adding in details.

I placed it across several different Sportsbooks but the breakdown works out like this

$1500 at -192

$750 at -162

$2000 at -180

$750 - at -180

Edit 2: I'm now 15K deep into this.

I could see myself betting on Biden but 4000 is a lot of money for that lol.

Why would you bet on the stupidity of the American people? That's a risk that is impossible to quantify.

If you stand to win more than 800, I probably would take that bet. I can't imagine you got much better than a 1:5 from a bookie.

As someone who has never bet money in my life, my dumbass has no idea what the numbers in the OP mean, can someone please translate into how much OP will profit if Biden wins

If Biden loses, we'll know he took a dive to screw over the OP.

I feel like I would want to bet on Trump instead. If Biden wins, the world is saved, who cares if I lost a few hundred. If the worst occurs, I can spend a few thousand on starting the emigration process.

literally in the first sentence of an OP that is only two sentences long

But guys, he can't get his "just vote" hot take in that some people on this site seem to think no one's going to do like it's 2016 unless they say it 86 times a day if he read the OP.

On topic, I really hope you win that bet. I did my part here in Arizona towards it.

Negative numbers mean you have to bet that much to win $100 and positive numbers mean if you bet $100 you win that much. i.e. a -180 line means you have to bet $180 to win $100 and a +180 line means you have to bet $100 to win $180. So they stand to win ~$2771. Usually a 50/50 chance of something occuring is placed at -110 because the house (sports book) takes a cut.

I'd bet $200 or $300 on that, not $4000 though, I don't have that kind of "betting" money.

I'm actually thinking on betting some money on Trump. To at least have some good news if the worst happen?

Altought I don't think it really would make me feel better; the world would be (much more) fucked by decades to come. And that is without saying 4 more years of Trump is something I sincerely think the planet doesn't have. (Climate change)

This was very helpful, thank you.

So the great the negative number is it is less probably the result happen.

Edited: ops, the other way around.

Man I couldn't do that. You'd be out of a lot of money AND Trump will have another 4 years of horror.
I'm struggling to keep a grip on things as it is...

The bigger the negative number the more likely that will be the outcome which is why you have to bet more money to make $100. So negative is the favorite in a competition and positive is the underdog. The later bets they placed at -190 are basically saying Biden is a 2:1 favorite since you have to bet $190 to win $100.

But with sports books you have to be careful, they set their money lines and spreads to have an equal amount of betting on either side. The ideal situation for a sportsbook is that they have bets on either side that cancel each other out and they just take a 10% fee on all of it. So that is why the OP got different rates. If more people are betting on Biden and they don't have "even" books they will make it less appealing to bet on Biden by moving the line. TL;DR don't treat this as actual election odds.

I have never hoped someone I've never met wins a weird bet I'd never place as much as I do in this moment.

I would take those odds you have there for sure.

You inspired me to put some money into PredictIt here. I might bet on a Dem Trifecta. They have those odds at -110.
