Royal was the game I was hoping for anyway so I don't mind that this isn't something for me, that being said I might give it a go if the impressions are positive.

I can't wait for this to come out and be #1 on the eShop so it goes completely against this absolutely ridiculous take.

Call of Duty was primarily what I was thinking of, but other devs have tried putting their IPs on Wii. Dead Space Extraction is an example of EA trying to put their franchises onto Wii.

I think people who thought P5 was coming to Smash because the switch was successful don't have much of a leg to stand on. IMO its the same situation as cloud. P5 characters are in PQ2. And Cloud was only in theaterythm.

It was wishful thinking, and if people are upset fine. But acting like Smash "baited them" is ridiculous considering there are guest characters who got in based on very little.

It's bit different with Cloud. Sakurai wanted a Final Fantasy character, and Cloud was by far the most popular one. Pretty simple.

Either way, Joker does confirm one thing: not just characters, but now entire franchises added to Smash are no longer decided in relation to Nintendo. If nothing else, it does open the door for the other DLC by quite a bit.

And I suppose it also should teach everyone a lesson about hyping any potential Switch releases based on Smash characters. Anything goes now.

So...why exactly is Joker in Smash?

Most popular character of the best selling game of all time from a long and trusted partner? A game that was very successful and considered for GOTY contender. A move to enhance relations with a 3rd party or to celebrate them and their support? A shocking surprise entrance? Sakurai's own personal love for P5?

Most likely a combing a lot of things. It doesn't need to be for a specific game on a Nintendo console

I'm guessing that this is like Persona 5's version of Arena, where you can have an excuse to include past characters from the previous games too. That girl at the end of the trailer also has android eyes, similar to Aigis and Labrys.

Why was Ryu in Smash Bros if SFV wasn't gonna be on the Switch?
Why was Solid Snake in Smash Bros if MGS4 wasn't gonna be on the Switch?
Why was Cloud in Smash Bros if FFVII REmake wasn't gonna be on the switch?

Yeah, that's...underwhelming considering the expectations.
But, Hyrule Warriors was a fun game, so I hope this one can be as well.

Why was Captain Falcon in any Smash game after Melee?

Edit: To be abundantly clear, this is a joke.

Probably because they are 3 of the most iconic video game characters of all time, unlike Joker.

So...why exactly is Joker in Smash?

maybe switch version has some exclusive characters? they can copy those from hyrule warriors like toon link or toon zelda

you know what would be the most logical? having bayonetta in it. nintendo could allow it, her move set would work, it would totally fit in the universe fighting shadows and demons etc (also, dante was in smt3, so it would somewhat come full circle, lol)

it would hype up bayonetta 3, and would explain joker in smash. its a win win win situation

Schadenfreude is always fun. Watching entitled people fall on their face is generally a joy to watch.

Not what I was saying at all. I'm saying that this was a dumb, dumb move by Atlus and I have no feeling except to laugh at it. I'm certainly not laughing at people who want to play a certain game on a certain system.

Oh man, the "why was Joker in Smash" and "why isn't P5 on Switch" discussions are still going on? What's done is done, time to move on guys.

Why would Nintendo have to allow Bayonetta? She's Sega's IP.

I understand many people will be dissapointed (musous certainly aren't my thing), but I think this makes a lot of business sense. In fact when Atlus was spreading the Persona brand with Dancing all Night and the Etrean Odyssey crossovers, it occurred to me a musou was the next logical direction.

In a world of consumer products, not absolutely every one of them will be tailored to you. This will be silly fun for die hard Persona fans looking for anything painted with the brand's aesthetics, and musou nerds will be exposed to the property.

The use of scramble in the title, with Shibuya crossing featuring so prominently in the game, is also quite neat, imo.

This + expanded release + Joker in Smash = Persona 6 (in 2024) is going to be massive for Atlus. :)

I do not understand all the negativity around this... Can't help but laugh. I'll enjoy playing this game along with P5R when they release

Is Persona 5 also coming to Switch? I'd heard some rumours but have been out of the loop. I've never played a Persona game and would be interested in trying it on switch.
