PewDiePie attempts to distance himself from Christchurch Mosque shooter who pledged support (READ THREADMARKS)

I'm aware of the incident itself (I mention Scalise, the primary victim, at the end of that post if you notice). I just meant the talking point of using the shooting to try and defend PewDiePie here. Not the first time I've seen someone use the fact that nobody blames Sanders for the then Majority Whip being shot to defend PewDiePie and how nobody should be linking PewDiePie either in this thread, despite the clear differences between those situations, and was just musing if that's on a list of talking points somewhere that's getting sent around as a result because that's such a specific thing to bring up and seeing it multiple times despite the clear differences is weird to me. That's all I meant, not what shooting that person was referring to at all.
You're absolutely right. It's a strategy used all too often: Compare two things that seem like they're the same but rob them of all context to try and make a point about two sides being equivalent. People like it because it's simple: "Remember that old shooting where the killer was a democrat? Not all republicans", "Remember that time a black person shot the police instead of the police shooting him? Not all police.", "Remember that time a woman lied about being raped? Not all men." It's easy short hand to try and end the argument.

This guy is fully bad mouthing the site on his personal twitter which I went down a rabbit hole of many who hate the site, I was kinda shocked to be honest.

There is a difference between saying PDP caused this to happen directly and that he helps this sort of mentality continue surely?

Anyway, I need to get away from all this the whole thing has been extremely eye-opening and feel so much pain and anger for the people of NZ.

I don't know what to do anymore. Are we shit people for calling out this?
Bastards trying to get other YTers to report this. Fucking "Woe is me" Ben over here...
Permban the cunt. 2 weeks ain't shit.
Fucking bastard.

User Banned (Duration Pending): Trolling and downplaying hate speech
We need to figure out everything that this man has consumed so we can ban everything that may have contributed his horrific actions. The only way we can stop this from happening again is by banning all humour, satire and anything that could contribute to hate if misinterpreted and put through the filter of a mad man.

I see pewdiepie and I have no urge to be killing people, I'm not anti-semitic and not racist.

Now, I will not say he haven't done some disgusted shit, he did. But the people that does things like this are already mentally sick, they would probably do it with pewdiepie videos or not.

At best he could use his influence to instruct young generations that this type of behavior is... inhuman... disgusting... i don't know...

Not everyone can get out of being held accountable to their actions by hiding behind satire and humor. PDP's "joke" wasn't funny and his "satire" wasn't clever which is why bigots see him as an ally and actually take him seriously. This is without going into the fact that he associates with the very people he says he doesn't want to be associated with.

Yet he does produce videos and adds to the swill that violent bigots swallow whole. Speculating about a world where PDP didn't make a sign to say "Death to all Jews" is a patently useless exercise because he did. It's out there and it squarely made him a darling within the circles that people like these killers run in.

i have a legit question, why are mods allowing very aggresive insulting on others who might think slightly different about who to really blame for?

I'm asking because I thought civil discussion was encouraged on this place, yet I'm seeing quite the opposite (see first pages)

Legit question

This is seriously disgusting. I fear for the safety of the people of New Zealand, and I'm utterly disgusted by Pewdiepie influence. They should take away his influential position he has right now, he has proven to be a danger to mankind.

I am going to a mosque in a bit, and I am now aware that there is a chance that someone put there, inspired by this crazy person, considering to shoot innocent people in a mosque. The Friday prayer is also were most people will be. But I will not let these terrorists ruin my way of life.

I'm going to block every channel/person defending this act of terrorism and defending or downplaying Pewdiepie role in this.

Well hes an idiot. He has done some questionable things say the least. But i dont think he deserves this much hate.
And Jewish people don't deserve to see a popular YT personality make light of the holocaust, yet here we are. He gets the hate he gives. He put hate into the world and is getting it back. It's that simple.

I think we should be more concerned over what has happened and the poor people that have lost their lives than a internet celebrity been "associated" with the killer.
We can do two things at once.

Sad to see it come to this. But cant say the signs where not there.

YouTube will need to clean its yard before governments swoop in and start regulating it themselves.

Tension and emotions are high, and I think a lot of people coming and saying stuff like "well PDP is a stand-up bloke who cannot be blamed for this" is a bit short sited when no one here is saying he caused it to happen just that we should maybe look at why he was placed in a shout out before a mass killing.

I don't get it... like Skillup blocked me too so that's why Im wondering why what I feel is so wrong to others they are not even trying to respond.

49 human lives have just been lost and you're wondering why are people being emotional about this?

Because people don't like white supremacist/adjacent/(whatever term you want to launder it with) apologism.

A public person cannot be responsible for the actions of each of their fans. However they can be responsible for the culture and messaging they perpetuate among their fanbase. And in that regard, at the very least, PewDiePie has seriously fucked up. And he's been warned repeatedly that he was fucking up. He doesn't have the right to be shocked that a horrible real life consequence came of it.

The strategy is rather obvious when you take a step back and observe what they're doing. The terrorist's right-wing peers can immediately shift focus from the actual attack and instead use it to their advantage. They are already out in force attacking "the left" and "the media" for "politicizing the attack" and "smearing Pewdiepie and innocent conservatives". The far-right here in Europe used that very same strategy to great success after the Utoya massacre in 2011.

Why watch him then when there's countless other gaming personalities who don't signal boost and act like a useful idiot for this hatred?
Oh I see other youtubers that are much better and funny than PDP, to be honest I have been losing interest in his content for months now.
NOW! I didn't see those twitters that people are showing here and you guys do have a point, even if he's trying to be edgy some people will take this too literally.

Said that yeah, he may have some fault and give some meaning for sick people to do this shit...

Specific to this thread: people getting angry at poster #37 who doesn't read the OP, threadmarks, or pretty much anything past the title, and asking the same question the other 36 people just asked.

In general: there's been a trend that first emerged on the old site, which carried over to here, of trolls with suspiciously low post counts with most comments being in similar types of threads, asking these same basic questions over and over again. Usually a bit of account digging or pressing them with questions reveals said troll also being bigot of some sort and they subsequently catch a ban. Frequent posters pick up on these cues and, instead of having to play philosopher detective for the fifteenth time in five hours, they just call BS on them right away.

It's the oldest play in the book. Then they'll will act shocked the next time something like this inevitably happens.

So, if we do this, when the next event happens (and it sadly will with your mindset) will we just react exclusively to that too, or when do you believe we are finally allowed to talk about the root of the problem - which includes him and a hell of a lot more horrible people.

People are emboldened to do stuff like this nowadays for a reason, please think about that before you comment

I don’t think that he could’ve done more at this time than trying to distantiate himself from this nightmare even though he kinda kept waving at alt-rights every now and again.

It’s sad that most of the people with huge followings use their influence for all the wrong reasons. My thoughts go to the victims.

Not all fun and games and people being mean when your shit leads to real-world consequences and atrocities.

There are good people out there with large followings, but good does not make as loud of a noise as bad

Not a fan of pewdiepie at all, but this thread right now reads honestly like a extremist hate forum for nazi's or something
What the fuck? Holy shit. I know this user is banned but this is the most absurd shit I've read all day, considering. What the fuck. Did you even read this shit?

No wonder people stay away from the gaming side.

It's not related to PDP, but man oh man THQ Nordic needs to get their asses blasted more over the fact they decided to not only hold an AMA on a website that hosted child pornography, but one that promoted and placed links to stream a mass shooting with multiple of their members cheering it on.

PDP is so full of shit. This is your fan base asshole. This is what you cultivate.

I agree with this.

Hatred feeds hatred.
There is no equivalence between the hatred PDP perpetuates by making light of the holocaust and the hatred he gets from the people rightfully pissed about his flippant attitude toward the disenfranchised and continual association with the modern day peddlers of bigoted hate. No one forced PDP to pull his Death to Jews bs. He chose to do it and the people who have to live with the fall out have no obligation to be kind to him for willingly being part of the bigger problem.

The thread is about PDP's influence on young people, his 'role' in the shooting, and his inability to take a stand. People are getting banned for tone policing and ignoring the purpose of the thread. It's not that complicated.

Just as a followup to my last post, I think this particular response by Felix is good and thoughtful. Focuses on the actual victims of the attack. I hope it sticks and that he abstains from making any "the mainstream media is attacking me over NZ shooting" videos.
