What was better with the old moderation team?
With due all respect to the actual mod team:That they were better mods.
In any case I don't think this is the thread for this conversation, neither I feel myself going in length now about it.

The point was that there wasn't anything wrong with old GAF... Until it's downfall and becoming an alt-right den.

Even if he made an honest mistake the first time, after getting called out for it you'd think that he'd be more careful afterwards. I guess not.

No, dude. This is simple: the most popular YouTube channel should not be posting videos that signal boost white supremacists or their "funny" content.

This is also simple: the most popular YouTube channel should be scrutinized, particularly when it has a history of using its power irresponsibly.

You're not doing yourself any favors with your speculation as to the motivations of the person who brought attention to this. Oh, he just wanted likes! It's social justice revenge porn! SJ celebrity!!

That's not a nuanced opinion. It more resembles you putting your head up your own ass.
No I disagree. This is a 5 second clip on a much bigger video that was o ly identified by Jared Holt who runs a site called right wign watch who is an alt right watchdog site.

If there is any signaling it is Jared virtue signaling by ousting this 5 second clip as bigger than it is. If you reasearch the guy you see tbat he lives for this but no. We cannot question his motives because then we get labeled. We can only question PDP and condemn him over nothing this time around.

You empower these ideas by attacking them and making the electronically taboo. No one cared until the guy made a big deal with his tweet. Instead of reaching out and trying to have some civil discourse he did a hit piece. All that was missing from that tweet was a thank you and a *pats himself in the back*

Maybe on another video I could see your claims but not for this bs. We'll just have to agree to disagree. You can insult me and label me anything you want if it makes you feel better.

Man it's so discouraging how so many people are willing to give someone like Pewdiepie the benefit of the doubt time and time again. Also not sure why so many people think the words social justice are a pejorative. Perhaps you have an issue with those essss jay dubyas huh?
I am not giving PDP the benefit of the doubt. I am calling out this whole thing because in this especific case I disagree. It is making something very insignificant big for attention.

I say SJW because that is the term that our society has come up for this. Just as some people use Nazis or call everyone alt right when they say something they don't agree with, some are called SJW. And looking at the authir of the tweet it fits. He runs a site called right wing watch if that is mot being a social justice warrior I am not sure. I am sure they've made hit pieces on people that are not even right just because they disagree wotht heir opinions.

I have an issue with people today using social media platforms as hit pieces for social credit. The other day some kind was trying to shame Gordon Ramsey for some very public video out some shady stuff he did back in 2010. It was a very public video but he still had to make the "hit piece" for thise likes and follower. This is the kind of outrage I compare this video controversy with.

If you regularly have videos with cuts every 1.5 seconds, it should be easy enough to cut out a couple seconds from a video.

Yeah I hate PDP as much as the next guy, but a 5-second Semi-viral clip? It's not nearly on the same level as giving them a shout-out. Anyone could've clicked on that clip & watched it and not have gone "oh this dude is a mega Nazi"

A hit piece? Hahahaha oh my God. That's actually hilarious. Imagine having to do a hit piece on PDP when he self fucks himself constantly with his own lack of attention and responsibility to his user base.

If you don't think it's important to know who some of the more popular Nazis are out there, you're being foolish.

IF it's your job to react to stuff on youtube , well yeah kinda . If you are a "nobody" viewing stuff leisurely , without much scrutiny upon your actions , and indeed did not know any better ... yeah it's nothing . However it's his job (and staff) to properly research stuff they risk promoting in videos , especially accidentally . and especially after so many similar cases .

Yeah yeah yeah , he could not bother to know , and it's the article that made that alaska idiot knows to most unaware people ... Yet does it not strike it odd , or at least lazy , that anybody can always manage to find who those mofos are , yet somehow PPD and staff can't verify content ?
He showed lots of videos. Not one video raised a Nazi alarm on me...I had to return to this thread to see who's video was.
That tells you how irrelevant this thing is.
He is not promoting the guy, he is not highlighting the guys channel, he is not directing anyone to follow the dude, he is just showing a stupid video.

I trully believe that there are persons looking for flaws in PDP's videos, I mean, come on! Is that Nazi guy a super known nazi or something?
At this point I would investigate the people finding this connections.

I trully don't get the hate the guy gets. I've actually seen some of his whiskey and books videos, I believe he is pretty grounded and funny. I would be way more concerned with Logan Paul or others youtubers that actually promote stupidity than this dude.

All this outrage and tweets over a 5 second clip o a 14 minute video.

It is important to know who the bad people are I can inform myself. What is not needed is some guy making an out of context tweet as a hit piece to "inform" me who the bad people are.

It is important to have discourse. These blanket shamings or actions only embolden these "bad" people. People are not discussing why this specific video is bad for using an unidentified 5 second clip they are using it as proof to reinforce their views and to high five themselves.

It's not the same impact, but it's the same level of negligence.

I cannot even express to you guys how easy this would be for him to avoid. Every single actual TV show, especially those aimed at kids, employs someone to vet the content and make sure there aren't errors like this just by actually doing a real quick google search of the people they're about to feature and removing them from the final cut if there are any red flags. It's that simple, they all do it, and they do it with about 1/100th the financial resources that Pewds has available to him. He obviously has a staff, he just isn't paying someone to do a final review because he doesn't care that he keeps making these mistakes.

He's lazy, doesn't care, and just wants to be reeeeeeal and raaaaaaaaw, man.

This was in the OP. You would think a guy who claimed he won't do any more Nazi jokes after Charlottesville because it made him realize the seriousness of the situation would want to avoid Charlottesville headliners.

I think most of us who actually work professionally in media don't like him because he's grossly negligent and constantly cries about being held to even a fraction of the same standards we all meet every single day of our professional careers while also reaching a much wider audience than almost anyone else in media and having a much larger potential negative impact. He has one of the biggest platforms on the planet and acts like that comes with zero responsibility. His irresponsibility is the primary source of increased regulation and decreased monetization on YouTube for everyone who makes a living on the platform. He's irresponsible toward his viewership and the industry he works in.

Or he's an actual Nazi. It's one of those two things.

But yeah, no, it's all salt, no substance.

Did you even bother to read the thread? Do you have anything to actually say?
He can't see through the blubble to read.

Or people are upset that he paid people to hold up a sign that read "death to all jews". Or about him using the n word on stream. Or about him promoting an anti semite's channel.

PDP is scum.

What hole do people like you crawl out of? It's really strange how posts like these pop up every time there's a thread about something like this.
You probably won't be truthful, but I'm generally curious:
  • Who do you get your marching orders from?
  • Where do you get your marching orders from? GAF? KiwiFarms? KotakuInAction? 4chan? A Discord channel?
  • Are low-effort posts like this satisfying some sort of hazing ritual you need to fulfill to on some other site?
Unironically posting what amounts to a "lul safe space" meme in 2019 is just too much.

It's also kinda offensive for people who aren't even Americans, or whatever race the Nazis are supposed to be nowadays.

Get your head out of your bums. Not everyone cares about your politics.
The thing with Nazis is, they're all around the world. We had guys waving Nazi swastikas on their march here last independence day and I don't live in the US. Sweden where Pewdiepie is from, is no stranger to Neo-Nazis either https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordic_Resistance_Movement So maybe it's you with your head in your ass?

I couldn't say if Pewdiepie is a neo-nazi or not. Maybe not, but it doesn't even matter to me much. He's done enough shit that deserves to be called out either way and is definitely an useful idiot for them. If this would be the worst he's ever done, it wouldn't matter at all and it wouldn't be an issue. But shit like this and much worse just somehow keeps happening to him.

We all have access to the video, and we know it's accurate that PewDiePie featured a white supremacist. Your insane deep dive into this person who pointed that out accomplishes nothing, informs nothing, changes nothing. It's a distraction from the substance of the issue at hand.

And it's only effective in your head because you're so caught up in the idea that this rather meager bit of social criticism somehow amounts to a gross injustice. He runs an alt-right watchdog site, the bastard! The tweets, which included the full context, somehow constituted a hit piece! He should have reached out and had a civil conversation with PewDiePie, not point out an objective fact on Twitter!

In addition to not actually informing anything, none of those things are damning, either. Here's what you're doing: pretending that the millionaire YouTuber with a history of being irresponsible showcasing a white supremacist in a video was perfectly fine until the big, bad man on Twitter drew attention to it. You don't see how you have things exactly backwards...?

But you painted others of being jealous of his success. If there are valid complaints about this dude it's not just jealousy. And you do know who this person is if you've read the thread.

Also there are plenty of people that don't have an issue with white people who say the n word. I don't agree with these people but surely you can see just because there is a portion of these people out there, the idea that a group like this exists doesn't render their argument a valid one. So you pushing back against an ERA hive mind when a large portion of this group seems to bend over backwards for Nazis seems inconsistent.

Oh really? How do you know?
Because as a father I know how kids work.
Do you honestly believe they would go out of their way to find info on these random people in that reaction video?
But now when their "hero" is beeing attacked by the evul leftists again they will suddenly be interested in Baked Alaska.

The best way to have handled this would have been to raise the question why Tik Tok allows Baked Alaska to share content on their platform, and ask PewdiePie to remove this/or edit out the part with Baked Alaska. If he refused to do that, then you can write a history and have the evidence that he knowingly refuses to remove content from a racist.

Funny enough, the original Nazis considered Swedes to be part of the Aryan race to begin with; Swedes are a Germanic people.

So random internet users have a greater moral responsibility for the impact on the children viewing these videos than the man making millions off them? Really?

If he had taken responsibility at literally any point, people wouldn't have to keep pointing out how irresponsible he is.

As a father I don't agree. My kids all the time look up these people that participating in videos.

Agree on Tik Tok though.

To add:

I think the biggest issue with Pew is that he don't care about the content he does... if he wouldn't have been in all these controversies, no one would bat an eye for this.

Yes, I do believe that some kids, teenagers and adults would do that, and I also know how kids work. I furthermore believe it is important to inform parents what kind of content is directly or indirectly presented to their children, so that they can act accordingly.
