But if they go the star ocean route and Give us high quality 3d models of 2d only past characters I'd find that to be acceptable

I've been waiting for Phantasy Star 5 for over 20 years, and I'd prefer they actually put down some effort to make a fully functional game for consoles.

Wouldn't mind if they did a spiritual successor to Episode 3 as a mobile title. Fans of PSO weren't ready for it at the time, but mobile would be a very friendly market for a sleek, sci-fi card strategy game.
