Saw this rather amusing story in 4 parts trending all over Twitter

1. Pitchfork tweets their review of Halsey's new album, Manic. They aren't impressed.

2. Halsey - unimpressed with the publication - tweets a sarcastic response

3. The internet knows where the 'basement' is located

Sounds like an honest mistake that will still probably get blown way out of proportion.

It's in poor taste no matter what but I doubt she knew where it was located.

Their tweet also seems pretty harsh for an album that got a 6.5.

(The album is good, I should add.)

No fun allowed. Good on her for apologizing, I guess. I'm sure the response from social media will be measured.

I mean it's Pitchfork...

Do you guys research people's living/work spaces before you jokingly wish that it would burn down? Am I doing it wrong?

She refers to it as a basement. She clearly had no idea. And who would realistically expect her to research that before, just in case???

She immediately walked it back when she found out, so I don't see the big deal.

I don't think many people are actually upset at her for this, it's just kinda funny that she walked into a really unfortunate coincidence like that

Pitchfork is an organization for which it is nearly impossible for me to muster any sympathy.

we should probably shit on her for daring to be offended at some rando's blithe dismissal of her music.

Halsey's response is exactly the kind of disproportionate vitriol that makes the internet in general and twitter specifically such an awful place. The review was bad but from what little context was given in the OP, it was a commentary on the quality of the music, not attacking Halsey personally. Hopefully she and others can learn to respond to even painful criticism in some way other than wishing harm on the critics.

The score does not lineup with that snippet about a Lyft ride.

But, whatever. I doubt she Googled "Pitchfork HQ" before making a joke.

(I don't even know who this is)

I can't view the images in the OP for some reason, but the thread title produced a laugh out of me. That's a bit over-the-top, Halsey.

I mean.. she's right that too often pitchfork is passive aggressive and strangely personal when they don't like an artist's album but that's how they get clicks. Shame too, when it's a good reviewer that's passionate about the music their reviews can be very, very good. A lot of reviews of re-issues for example

The Axwell remix of her song Graveyard is fire.

Because he mixed her out of it and thus I had literally no clue it was a Halsey original and found out like a month after it released.

6.5 seems way higher than I would expect considering their tweet.

I don't care for Halsey because she's a little too generic for me, but the actual review is decent. Whoever is tweeting out for Pitchfork took a segment of the review which criticized ( and rightfully so ) some of the hit makers who produced on this album and twisted it out of context.

Halsey's collaborators on Manic include Greg Kurstin, Benny Blanco, and Jon Bellion, some of the world's foremost hitmakers and shapers of the amorphous, chameleonic pop I've come to associate with sitting miserably in the backseat of a Lyft. Their presence here is felt a little too acutely.

Hasley's PR:" Wow reviews for the album, let me refresh to get more"
